This was taken in Gainesville, Florida. The butterfly is a tree nymph (Idea leuconoe) and the plant is a butterfly bush (appropriately!). As with many of my other shots, the effects here were all created in-camera with a -2 exposure composition and the subject in bright natural light in front of a shaded background. 100% of the profits from the sale of this image will be donated to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Couldn’t resist adding a little fairy (my daughter) and some garden creatures to Melody’s home of Edmund Elf without distracting too much from the beautiful setting she created!

Origin: Islands of Indonesia pollen, fruits In the wild, lories feed on nectar, pollen, fruits, and the occasional insect. All lories have a tongue that is specially adapted with a brush-like tip composed of elongated papillae. This feature enables the birds to collect pollen from flowers and compress it into a form suitable for swallowing. They play a major role in the pollinating or trees and flowering plants in their native Indonesia coastal and mountain forests. Large View Recommended. The foul and disgusting Elm Spanworms (Ennomos subsignaria) have finally metamorphosed from their particularly nasty larva stage in which they eat every single maple tree in St. John’s, Newfoundland, down to the bare branches. After spending just a couple short weeks wrapped up in a curled leaf filled with silk webbing, the fully-formed adults emerge from the chrysalis as a brilliant white moth. They seek out mates, lay eggs in the trees, and the cycle begins again next summer.
