  • A second shot with the Old Faithful Inn in the background. More of a reflection shot as well.

  • to date, since i have been on the volunteer fire dept here in townsend, this was the hardest fire we have fought. this was richmont inn, located in laurel valley here in townsend, along a mountain side. this blaze literally wore us out. we fought it from 9:30pm til 6:10am, and then i had to return around 8:30am and fight it more til around 11am. i had already been up for over 24hrs. i was beat. there was one more call on this fire the next day, and again, a few of us showed up to “finish her off” / this was a task within itself, the inn was about 100foot from where we had to park our truck, and carry ALL of our gear down the mountain side to it. of course we started off at night, so having to watch your step along with carrying gear or a charged hose, was a challenge. / this shot along with 7 others will soon be published in 9-1-1 magazine, four from this fire..and three shots from the fire we had exactly one month to the day in january. two of the shots are already here on RB….”my volunteer job” and “battling the blaze”

  • Was passing this Gas storage tank in Sheffield just after a rain shower and with the late afternoon sun brilliantly highlighting the colour. A golden delight….! And nicely contrasting the rather run down pub on the left… Click to see some of my other categories- Autumn Collection / Paris / Flowers / HDR / Clothing

  • This may only be a shaky handheld job on my little pocket camera (fujifilm finepix a500) but is one of the three pics I’m proudest of ...ever…. and it still makes my heart lurch every time I see it! It had been six and a half hour walk in and up from sea level to that point and comprised more rock scrambling than I had ever envisaged and a heartstoppingly precarious walk along the ridge. I had carried a small tripod every step of the way but the others waiting wanted to press on with even harder descent and 4 hour return trip so I had no chance to set up…..... / :)) The view looks back over Loch Hourn into the highlands from the top of Ladhar Bheinn, or ‘hoof hill’ ‘one of the finest mountains in Scotland with narrow rocky ridges and spectacular corries’ (Scottish Mountaineering Club Guide). It is 1020m but we had scrambled up and down on the jagged ridge repeatedly so had climbed considerably more. The last snows of the winter look reassuringly solid in this pic but in fact stood proud of the mountain leaving the sheer drop visible beneath. We had sailed into knoydart the most remote penisula on the scottish mainland from Mallaig into the hamlet of Inververie which is inaccessible by road, only by sea or a demanding walk of many miles. It is graced with the fantastic Old Forge pub with superb meals and imprompu nightly ceilidhs which walkers and sailors really enjoy! Deer roamed the gardens and early next morning I got the precious shot of morning gems Looking back in an amazing place For full details see heartbeat ridge Ladhar Bheinn, in the remote scottish knoydart peninsula For an idea of scale see also hey wait for me / See all pics of this stunning area by clicking this link: knoydart

  • Chinese Brush Painting-The Inn of Happiness.. Ink and Watercolour on Rice Paper. “The Inn of Happiness” [my title] is the very first Chinese style painting I ever did, and for practice I based it on a very ancient Chinese landscape painting… / I decided I loved this style of painting and went on to compose my own imaginary scenes with a distinctive oriental flavour. / After doing just a few pieces, I had to give it up in order to concentrate on my main body of work. / This year when I found that RedBubble was the perfect arena for me to indulge in any style of painting my heart desired, I happily returned to it…. I am including “The Inn of Happiness” here as an example of adding colour to an ink painting, in illustration of the articles I have written on the subject so far…Janis Why question the fate of the dew? / The morning sun burns dew, and drowns in clouds. The holy mountain is not a palace / But an inn. / Once you, innkeeper, / Drive out desire, ignorance, hate, / What remains? Enlightenment? Affliction? Dew is your model: nothing at all. Han Shan /

  • We enjoyed the mellow dusk settle on this perfect anchorage with pints of beer in hand, outside the renowned Forge inn, (officially Britains remotest mainland pub). The tiny scottish hamlet of Inverie is inaccessible by road, only by sea or a demanding walk of many miles. We had crossed to the unspoilt area of the knoydart peninsula by ferry from Mallaig for some amazing walking (see the series of 3 pics on heartbeat ridge . The sights on arrival were just captivating with wildflowers galore, deer roaming gardens, peacocks roosting (see bird in a tree and I also got the precious shot of morning gems. • A Ryokan in Hakone. You sleep on futons on tatami matting (straw). it is surprisingly comfortable. The baths at the Ryokan draw water from natural hot springs, there is no better way to relax. It was interesting to share breakfast with some of the Japanese tourists at the Ryokan, some had beer with their traditional Japanese breakfast. R e f l e x i o

  • This Rose Bud waiting to open up for the world to see, was in the garden at the Swan Inn, at the back of Dawlish. / It had a leaf directly above it, like a roof protecting it from the rain, but also shadowing the poor thing. I hope you like it. / Thank you for looking. Pentax K110D. / Sigma 70-300mm Macro.

  • The Cott Inn at Dartington, near Totnes is one of the oldest Inns in the UK and has been continuously licenced to sell ale since 1320 AD. A charming thatched roof covers the 5 foot plus thick walls that are constructed of cobb (an ancient mix of clay mud, cow manure, straw and lime, then rendered with a lime plaster) it has certainly stood the test of time and still looks so pristine. I have enjoyed many meals there washed down with the odd pint or two. /

  • Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery Country Road on way to Mann River Nature Reserve Nestled amongst magnificent mountain scenery east of the Great Dividing Range in the north of New South Wales, is a lovely and little-known part of the Mann River. It is an area of great interest to naturalists, bushwalkers and photographers. The park is located 48 km east of Glen Innes, 129 km west of Grafton. Turn off the Gwydir Highway onto the old Glen Innes-Grafton road. Take this road between the park and Grafton for a scenic alternative, however it includes 120 km of unsealed road not suitable for caravans. Old Grafton Road, Rural New South Wales, Australia.

  • While visiting Malmesbury, England, we stayed at the Old Bell. It’s a beautiful and one of the oldest inn’s in the world. This is an Impressionist digital painting of the wisteria growing on the inn. Featured in Digital Artists United group. / /

  • / In 1816, a gentleman from Connecticut named Rensselear W. Cowles came to Worthington, Ohio to seek his fortune. In 1831, Mr. Cowles constructed the oldest portion of the Inn as a private residence for himself and his wife. The land and building that he purchased for $250.00 is what has become the Worthington Inn. After Mr. Cowles’ death in 1842, Feodore Fuller purchased the Cowles’ property and promptly enlarged the building. Mr. Fuller sold the business to William Bishop in 1852 for $5,000.00 changing the property from a private residence to a traveler’s inn (called the Bishop House) on one of Columbus’ most traveled thoroughfares (now know as Route 161- Dublin-Granville Road). At the time of Mr. Bishop’s proprietorship, a typical meal at the Inn cost only a dime and an overnight’s stay cost only 25 cents! Years after Mr. Van Loon’s passing, the current owners purchased the building and began the task of restoring the Inn to its former Victorian glory. The new owners insisted that the Inn would honor the traditions of its past and over the highest-quality food and service in central Ohio. / In 1868, the Lewis family purchased the property and continued to operate it as the Union Hotel until 1889. At that time, the Inn was sold again, this time to Mr. George Van Loon, who renamed our beloved enclave the Central House. When a fire damaged the roof and second floor of the original two-story structure in 1901, George’s son, Nicholas Van Loon, decided to add a large third floor ballroom under a new mansard roof. .is addition created the characteristic Victorian facade that you see today. In formation taken from Worthington Inn website.

  • Established in 1705, The Drovers Inn hotel was originally an old inn used by the cattle drovers driving their cattle across Loch Lomond to markets and is three hundred years old. Described as idiosyncratic in the guidebook, they weren’t kidding. Walking into the entrance area is like walking into the past; it is full of stuffed animals in various states of repair and there are a lot of cattle horns hanging on the wall. To the left hand side is the main bar area, which looks as if it has hardly changed in the last three hundred years. It certainly doesn’t look like it has been decorated in all that time. There was a roaring fire which made the place seem very friendly. / Shot last year on my visit to Scotland, it is situated on the A82 just by the shores of Loch Lomond. / Taken with my Nikon D70s and 18-70mm lens, had a fart around with this in Photoshop and added a texture to give it that old look.. / I like it, really hope you do too..

  • Stayed on the fourth floor, these birds were in the tree right ouside my window! / taken at Spring Mill State Park, Near Mitchell, IN

  • This pub was demolished in 1891, so the photo I used will be in the public domain by now. It’s the first pen and ink I have done for a while and it took ages, hence the lack of new paintings :) The pub stood about a mile from where I live. Another pub with the same name replaced it. It’s A3 sized and I used Rotring Isograph and Rapidograph pens. Because of all the detail this didn’t photograph too well, so here is a close-up: /
