Expect The Unexpected – Pigs Might Fly

This piece was a drawing done in ink. It was originally for a dinner party invite and when I saw how nice the sketch came out I used it for prints! It has been digitally enhanced with color and text. The words are in Italian and loosely mean “Dinner Party” with the time and date. / This print is available as a greeting card or a canvas print…both of which you can frame easily! Thanks for looking! As a once psychology major, I was intrigued by Freud’s theory on the id and ego of the human psyche. It has been many years since those classes so my words may be somewhat off. But this piece is a self representation (aren’t they all?) of myself and how the “id” and “ego” play in our life decisions. We all seek pleasure and that constant feeling of euphoria, and our “id”’s only goal is to achieve those feelings without worry or care about the consequences of such actions. It is our “ego” that keeps the “id” in line, allowing us to think before we act, and to be able to foresee what may come of this pleasure seeking. It is a constant battle that wages on beneath our skin and sometimes the “id” overcomes. Some choose to live only by the “id”s bidding and never realize the destruction they leave behind when seeking their pleasures. I have been through that lifestyle once, and as much as I enjoyed such pleasures in bountiful amounts….the aftershock of those actions can still be felt today.

The use of vibrant blue and splashes of orange watercolour immediately draws you in – which then uncovers the finer details of this unique piece…. / The statements, “practice makes perfect” (referring to our own personal journey as artists) and “I care, you care, we care, we all care” (reinforcing our belief in positive thinking) are almost a hidden distraction amongst the falling bunny sketches and the tight cluster of heads.

This is a print of one of my “rough” sketches that started out as a tiny doodle in my sketch pad…it turned into something bigger…and I fell in love with it. I just follow my pencil…whatever it does I go with. This was hand drawn and then enhanced digitally to give the piece color. I did not erase my pencil lines because I feel it adds some needed character and personality! I love the green…Im so loving green lately! Anyway, its available for purchase as cards and a canvas print. / Thanks for looking! ~Shelli

Dear pillow, / thank you for listening to me, / for letting me scream quietly, / for letting me cry on you… thank you for being there to share my pain, / when words pierced through my heart and tear it apart. / thank you for being there for me to hug, / when the wind outside is howling, / and nightmare strikes and there’s no one to hug me… Dear pillow, / thank you for being my friend / thank you for not hurting me / thank you for not leering & jeering at me / thank you for not branding me / thank you for being there quietly / thank you~
