  • The Raven symbolizes the dark and difficult aspects of life, which is a part of life we often misunderstand and rarely effectively deal with. The dark aspects are not bad or evil, as it is necessary to go through a process of darkness in order to emerge in the light. Dark comes before light, healing is preceded by illness, the storm eventually transforms to calm and so on. The Raven reminds us of the need for this balance, and that without accepting the full integration of the cycle of dark and light, we cannot truly heal. The Raven is also a messenger between two worlds: the living world and the twilit Otherworld or spirit world. By connecting these two worlds, the Raven initiates us into a new way of being. The Raven travels from this world to the next; accessing the darkest regions bringing back visions and instructions for the seeker and the healer. Often, before advancing in any spiritual growth, one must sacrifice or let go of old ways of being. The Raven gives us insight into what old patterns must die in order to make way for the new. In this painting, the Raven flies at twilight, the time when the veil between the two worlds is at its thinnest. It flies over an ancient megalithic mound, where one can access the Otherworld. I didn’t paint the Raven feathers simply black, but are actually made of layers of blues, violets and greens. I did this to symbolize that all possibilities exist within the void of darkness, just waiting to emerge. In Eastern and Celtic traditions the Raven is a solar symbol. In my dream the Raven flew beneath a full moon, which I have interpreted here as the night sun, illuminating the landscape. But, traces of the setting sun are still visible in the horizon and limning the edge of the mound and distant trees and hills. I am by no means and authority on the Raven mythos. Feel free to interpret your own meanings, and, please share them here if you like. It is always fascinating to hear how others interpret such powerful archetypes. • Cosmic energy trapped in solid form – a symbolism that explains some puzzling aspects of ancient attitudes toward metals.Metals, like humans, were earthly things with celestial potential; hence, the development of a cosmic hierarchy in which metals were paired with the seven known planets. / In ascending order, least precious to most precious, these were: LEAD/Saturn; TIN/Jupiter; IRON/Mars; COPPER/Venus; MERCURY/Mercury; SILVER/Moon; GOLD/Sun. As a Venusian ruled being, I am quite partial to copper… An apophysis creation finished in photoshop. Broken Sky – Copper

  • For over a year, I have written the story of Ged who was chosen by her father, a well respected King to find the abducted princess. He has traveled through many solar systems risking his life to save the golden haired lady. The team sent on this mission have climbed the steps of Mystic Mountain and when they reach the top of the stairway, they are shocked to find out that the huge rocks can move and in a very threatening voice warn these seasoned warriors that no man that has entered the forbidden territory has come back alive. There are men on bridges near the top of the mountain who are a few of the many who guard this territory. Ged, has traveled through many solar systems risking his life to save the golden haired princess. Ged is swimming under one of the many waterways to find the phylum where the princess is sequestered. Tonight is her initiation into the Swift Running Tribe who plan to indoctrinate her using mind control after branding her with the tribe’s fertility marks. The princess is unaware that Ged is swimming under the waterways to reach the breeding pool (the graluz) before the initiation rites begin. Time is running out. Mystic Mountain and Tandaloor are part of this story and can be viewed in my portfolio on RB. To appreciate this photograph, please view it in the large / format. ....to be continued .to be continued

  • In honor of Valentine’s Day. :)

  • Honoring intuition, using discernment, outsmarting deception and trusting first impressions are some of the ‘medicine’ traits of the OWL. / The ‘Medicine’ of TRUTH…like the invisible owls you hear at night, your awareness in the midst of blackness, perceives reality. In the night you find illumination. Oh yes, the night is dark, but the world is still real for those who see with their intuitive side. / My dear sister Judi, as you learn to trust your clairvoyant nature, you learn that truth flows through you, much the same way silent OWL glides through the night. Honor this ability to serve CREATION…. My husband came in from outside, quite giddy with this discovery – a Great Horned Owl in one of our many Pine Trees surrounding the ponds that he was cleaning debris from. What a gift to be able to photograph her in the daylight hours, besides seeing her after discussing the medicine of her truths. As is photograph taken 2/18/09. WindOwl Eyes of Truth

  • I dedicate this photograph and narrative to Sophie Shapiro / whose insight and inspiring perception have honored much / of my work. She is a gift to those who are fortunate to / know her and the “spirit” guides that fuel the power / of her healing in concert with the sparrows and what / is “unseen” in the material world. I feel blessed / to know this special and very gifted lady who has / touched my life and continues to inspire my work. All profits from purchasing this work will be donated to the Wildlife victims of the Victorian bush fires. This is another macro image of a Palm Tree Trunk. Please / view this in the large format. My last photograph / of my story that takes place in intergalactic space showed / Ged swimming the water tunnels on Tandaloor to rescue / the princess before she is initiated into the Swift running / tribe who plan to brand her with the tribe’s fertility marks. / She is unaware that Ged is very close to the phylum where / the Princess is sequestered. Time is running out. The King’s / army are approaching the planet using navigation / technology to precisely locate her to return to her / father’s kingdom. His wife, the Queen has passed away and the / princess is unaware of the King’s plan to / have a royal ceremony to make his daughter Queen to replace / his deceased wife. Ged, has traveled through many solar systems risking his life to save the golden haired princess. In the last photograph he is swimming under one of the many waterways to find the phylum where the princess is sequestered. There are many beasts that prey on humans who / enter the gates of Mystic Mountain to ensure that nothing can / disrupt the fertility ritual of the tribe who use mind control / to achieve their purpose. If any of their ceremonial rituals / are invaded by an intruder, he will be killed instantly. Ged / knows he must find her before the King’s royal army and / the imminent danger that threatens his survival. The Princess / feels like a caged animal knowing that at midnight, she / will unwillingly become branded as a fertile member of / the female tribe. She is walking down the path of mystic / mountain (on the left) feeling helpless and in / despair of what seems destined to be her fate. Her shadow / image represents the Dark Goddess, the final task of soul making; / that is to enter the realms of the Dark Goddess in order / to bring the secret of beauty to the world. Before the Princess disappeared, she had a mentor who taught her about / the Dark Goddess in the transformation of consciousness. / Her mentor named her the Dragon Princess and asked / provocative questions to help the young princess develop / a rich and deep knowledge of the Dark Goddess. / Her hidden presence exists in the psyches / of men and women. Seen and unseen, appreciated or / denigrated, in history, myth, and culture as well as in / individuals, the Dark Goddess carries transformative power / and feminine wisdom. The last question she asked the / princess was, how did patriachy imagine that we could survive / as individuals or as species self-exiled from her, the source of / life and death? The princess was deeply involved in the wise / teachings of her spiritual guide who skillfully and insightfully / guided her along the path of a renewed wisdom. Being with / her, the princess felt a timeless, spaceless world. She began / to see everything from two sides-the side that is totally in / life and the side that is already dwelling in an disembodied / soul. Maybe this crisis she is facing alone in this unknown and / threatening realm is a test to embrace the Dark Goddess / that is very powerful and strong enough to guide the men / of Tandaloor into the feminine or in Jung’s terms to embrace / the anima and animus that exist in all of us. / Maybe she could hold the container in which / the tribal leaders can experience their own shadow rage / without destroying themselves or others. Before she only / focused on being rescued by a man as strong as / Ged, her spiritual companion. She had not recognized / the healing dualities that exist in herself to come to a true / sense of interdependence. She realized she needed to / let the voice of her inner wisdom speak and let go of / fear and despair. / Believing that rescue was her only option to deal with / survival and the subordination of females to the will of / the masculine psyche was an old pattern of thinking. / Her mentor had taught her that the forms (order, justice / truth) arise out of the creative matrix. This order / that rises out of chaos (as archetypal truths / rise out of the unconscious) is attributed to the / Goddess;it is not the imposed order of the / patriarcal (ego) world. The princess began / to understand that her destiny depended / on her power, the integration of light and / dark. She saw an image of the Black Goddess / Kali, the terrible one of many names, “difficult / to approach,” whose stomach is void and so can / never be filled, and whose womb is giving / birth forever to all things.” -Joseph Campbell The words of her spiritual guide appeared / to her in the form of a poem: “It is time for the invocation: / Kali, be with us. / Violence, destruction, receive our homage. / Help us to ring darkness into the light. / To lift out the pain, the anger, / Where it can be seen for what it is— / The balance-wheel for our vulnerable, aching love. / Put the wild hunger where it belongs, / Within the act of creation, / Crude power that forges a balance / Between hate and love / Help us to be the always hopeful / Gardeners of the spirit / Who know that witout darkness / Nothing comes to birth / As without light / Nothing flowers. / Bear the roots in mind, / You, the dark one, Kali / Awesome power.” May Sarton Recommended Reading / The Goddesses in Everywoman: A New Psychology / of Women / Writing for Your Life / Jean Shinoda Bolen, M.D. / Leaving My Father’s House: A Journey to Conscious / Femininity / Marion Woodman / Coming Home to Myself: Reflections for Nurturing / a Woman’s Body and Soul / Marion Woodman, Ph.D. / Jill Mellick, Ph.D. / Women Who Run With The Wolves / The Faithful Gardener: A Wise Tale About That / Which Can Never Die / Clarissa Pinkola Estes

  • “Arise from the dead.” Ephesians 5:14 Quite a while back , I took this shot at our local cemetery * All initiative is not inspired. A man may say to you – “Buck up, take your disinclination by the throat, throw it overboard, and walk out into the thing!” That is ordinary human initiative. But when the Spirit of God comes in and says, in effect, “Buck up,” we find that the initiative is inspired. We all have any number of visions and ideals when we are young, but sooner or later we find that we have no power to make them real. We cannot do the things we long to do, and we are apt to settle down to the visions and ideals as dead, and God has to come and say – “Arise from the dead.” When the inspiration of God does come, it comes with such miraculous power that we are able to arise from the dead and do the impossible thing. The remarkable thing about spiritual initiative is that the life comes after we do the “bucking up.” God does not give us overcoming life; He gives us life as we overcome. When the inspiration of God comes, and He says – “Arise from the dead,” we have to get up; God does not lift us up. Our Lord said to the man with the withered hand – “Stretch forth thy hand,” and as soon as the man did so, his hand was healed, but he had to take the initiative. If we will do the overcoming, we shall find we are inspired of God because He gives life immediately. _Oswald Chambers, devotional.

  • \ / My idea of a holy picture, like the ones we used to have when we were little with a contemporary feel to it. St Agnes of Rome (c. 291 – c.304 virgin–martyr) is often depicted carrying a little lamb. She is the patron saint of chastity, gardeners, girls, engaged couples, rape victims, and virgins. Read more about her here in Wikepedia and more in my recent journal here the poem The Eve of St Agnes by John Keats (thanx to izzybeth for reminding me of it to include here)
