  • [INFO] Welcome to Red Bubble :)
    by Craig Shillington

I am adding this Journal entry for all my friends and contacts that I have invited to Red Bubble from other Photography Sites etc. So man…

I am adding this Journal entry for all my friends and contacts that I have invited to Red Bubble from other Photography Sites etc. So many of you have already joined and it is really heartwarming to see you all here. I know it can be a little hard to understand how the Bubble works so hopefully I can make it a little easier for you by directing you all to this Journal Entry (JE) to give you some hints and tips on making the most out of Red Bubble :) :) Thank you so much for joining or at least having a look :) :) VBS HomePage and RedBubble Page. First off I would suggest adding these to your contacts. :) By adding these three into your contacts, you will receive information on the Red Bubble community into your Activity monitors. That way you will know right away about importance changes and announcements :) :) Selling you Works Okay, okay. I admit it …. that is what really attracted me to Red Bubble to begin with ;) It’s not so much the sales for me now and you will understand that the longer you stay involved with Red Bubble and the wonderful Community vibe here. But yes, we all want to sell our works and make money. :) :) Red Bubble has many options for selling our works and are introducing new options all the time. Ranging from Cards … all the way up to Fully Framed Prints. These are the dimensions for the files that you will want to have your works to be able to sell in each category: Cards: about 1300 by 900 pixels (1 megapixel) Small wall art print: about 1600×2400 pixels (4 megapixels) Medium wall art print: about 2160×3240 pixels (7 megapixels) Large wall art print: about 2560×3840 pixels (10 megapixels) For t-shirts, please upload PNGs that are 12” x 16” in size, with pixel dimensions of 2400×3200 pixels. You can access a template for t-shirt designs The Forum Red Bubble has a wonderful Forum where we can become so much more involved community wise :) It’s a great place to meet new people and also have deep and meaningful discussions and a wide range of varied topics or simply have fun :) The Forum also includes important updates you may miss and has many FAQ’s etc regarding Red Bubble itself. It might pay to have a look around in there too. To get to the forum, click on the People Tab at the top of the screen … then look down the bottom of the page that opens. Or you can click HERE Personalizing your Profile Some of us like to Personalize our Profile pages … or even just add quirky parts of ourselves to our pages and posts. Red Bubble does not use HTML, it uses a basic form of a code called Textile. It’s a fairly simple code to follow, so if you wanna know how to make a link, add a small picture and similarly personalize yourself here, I have written a few [HOW TO] ’s, hopefully explaining in simple terms how to do certain things using the code that Red Bubble uses. RSS If you are familiar with RSS, Red Bubble offers feeds on the Forum and also on every bodies Portfolio and Journal Pages. Keep an eye on the HomePage for any updates to this in the future. Simple Text Formatting As we are typing we can make our words Bold etc. by formatting the text we are using, here are some of the more basic ones you might want to use from time to time. I need to put spaces here so you can see the code, so when you use these, type them out without any spaces at all for them to work :) :) type * BOLD * – To make text BOLD / type _ ITALIC _ – To make text ITALIC / type ^ SMALL UP ^ – To make text SMALL UP / type ~ SMALL DOWN ~ – To make text SMALL DOWN / type + UNDERLINED + – To make text UNDERLINED / type – CANCELLED – - To make text CANCELLED type * * * with no spaces and a blank line before and after makes a horizontal line So I can make text bold italic small and small , underlined and oops, I didn’t really mean that ;) To make text clickable to a link, wrap the text in quote marks {“} add a colon {:} and then the link (with no spaces): ” text ” : http://www.linkhere.com If you can think of something handy for someone new that should be included here, please let me know and I will add it in :) :) Enjoy and have fun :) :) View all my INFO’s

Cards Greeting Cards are printed on our …

Cards Greeting Cards are printed on our Durst Theta and bonded to high quality 200gsm card for the best internal writing surface, then creased and packed with an envelope. They come ready to write on, give away or just admire. T-Shirts We spent months scouring the world for the best quality t-shirts that were strong, stylish and sweat-shop free, we found them in American Apparel. Manufactured in downtown LA, their quality cuts look great on both men and women. We’re starting small, and only offering eight colours to start with (White, Blue, Green, Grey, Lemon, Olive, Pink, Red and Silver), but don’t worry as more colors and styles aren’t far behind. You choose the size, colour and the design, and we print direct-to-garment. The shirt is then heat pressed to cure the inks, elegantly folded and then slipped into a plastic bag to be shipped. It’s sealed with a RedBubble sticker naming the work and the artist that designed it. Direct to garment printing is a style of printing where designs are printed directly onto the t-shirts. The direct to garment printer is an industrial version of traditonal ink jet printing technology (think of the ink jet printer you have at home). This allows a wide range of colours to be laid down very quickly. One of the things we really like about this printing technology is that the t-shirts retain their soft feel – they don’t have that plastic feel that some printing processes can leave. Wall Art The first step is to print the image on a Durst Theta (using Kodak Professional Photo Paper) from the original file uploaded by the artist. It’s then professionally checked, and only goes onto the next stage if it looks great. If it doesn’t, then it gets tweaked for color, density and sharpness. Only great looking prints will ever get beyond this stage. From here the print goes into one of three finishing processes. Laminating This is a two sided hot laminate process after which the print goes straight into packing for delivery. Mounting The print is mounted onto a base material called ‘Gator’ board, we seriously love this stuff! It’s by the far the easiest way to put art on your walls – very light, very strong, doesn’t warp and doesn’t ding. Once the print is bonded to the gator, we gloss laminate the front surface, apply a black edging and add a hanger on the back. So you don’t forget what you’ve bought, there’s a sticker with the artists name and the title of the work also on the back. Then it’s packed in bubble wrap and into a box for delivery. Posters Posters are printed with a 5mm white border. They’re printed on durable 180GSM matte stock. These posters are water-proof, which we discovered when James “washed” one in the sink. Although the print survived surprisingly well, we recommend ordering new posters in preference to scrubbing them under a faucet. Framing These are the créme of the crop and look stunning in any environment. Each print is bonded to a foam core base, while the matte is cut on a big digital cutter and then sandwiched into the frame with super clear acrylic ‘glass’. We use conservation grade matte board which is acid free and pH buffered. The finished frame has a sticker on the back with the artists name and the title of the work. Wrapped in bubble-wrap and then packed in our custom boxes to make sure it gets there safe and sound. Canvas We’re using Canson Canvas, an Epson printer and Epson pigment inks to ensure a quality product that will look great and last forever. All canvas prints have a water-based clear lacquer applied to them as a UV barrier and to protect the canvas prints from scuffing. It also makes them easier to clean! Mounted on gatorboard (as opposed to chipboard which can bend and flake over time) for a sturdy frame. About Gator Board Much stronger than foamcore, but about the same weight. Rigid polystyrene foam core laminated between two face veneers of resin-impregnated wood fiber for use in displays, photo mounting, and much more. Provides an ideal combination of minimal weight and high load capacity. View all my INFO’s

Cards C6 folded, C5 open. C6 is 114mm by 162mm (4 1/2in by 6 1/3in) / C5 is 229mm by 162mm (9in by 6 1/3in) T-Shirts Women’s T-Shirts Classic Girl is our young women’s line. Sizing is always controversial when it comes to women’s tees, so please excuse our directness. Classic Girl is not a “junior’s” line. It is designed for women of all ages who desire a youthful fit. Because our fabrics are stretchy (especially our baby rib, which has a stretch factor of over 100%), each size can fit a wide range of women. When Classic Girl T-shirts are to be used to promote an event, our Medium/One Size (indicated by M/OS) is suggested, as it fits approximately 80% of women. Unisex/Men’s T-Shirts Standard American is our unisex line. Most contemporary T-shirts are sized for the Boomer Generation (former hippies who are now in the “relaxed mode”). Our Standard American T-shirts are sized for two categories: men of all ages who desire a youthful fit and women of all ages who do not desire the form-fitting look of Classic Girl, but refuse to wear the oversized, unshapely T-shirts of the other leading brands. The Standard American line is designed in the same way T-shirts were in the ‘70s and ‘80s, when the Boomers were younger. Wall Art RedBubble has three size windows: Small (8 by 12 inches), medium (12 by 18 inches) and large (16 by 24 inches). If an image is uploaded to the site that doesn’t have a 2:3 aspect ratio we fit it to these size windows and take up as much of the window as possible. For example, a small 4:5 aspect ratio image is 8 by 10 inches. When an image is printed with a border add 1 inch (top and side) and 2 inches (bottom) to get the final product dimensions. When an image is framed add 2.5 inches on all sides (plus the width of the frame) to get the final product dimensions. Posters RedBubble posters are available in three sizes, with a maximum print area of A2, A1 or A0 View all my INFO’s

Shipping Costs At the moment Red Bubble is charging the same amount to ship internationally as is charged to ship nationally. Final costs depend on the nature of the order (i.e. how many items) – but you could expect that they never vary more than a few dollars from these estimates. Depending on the destination and the item being shipped. here’s a couple of rules of thumb. The shipping & handling of a large framed or mounted print will cost in the order of $15AUD; a t-shirt will cost in the order of $4.75AUD. Shipping cards will generally cost in the order of $2.50AUD. One rule of thumb that is useful to know is that the more items in the order the more economic the shipping costs. For example, shipping one greeting card might cost in the order of $2.15AUD shipping 50 cards will cost in the order of $9AUD (i.e. 18 cents per card). Your Total Including Postage, Handling & Tax will be shown before the Purchase at the Checkout Currently Red Bubble is using PayPal to handle payments (you can use your credit card).
