This is my collaboration with a sculpture student, we had to pick a partner and photograph their sculpture, he sculpts this miz of wax and black face paint onto people so i felt slightly at an advantage to my other peers but it was fun. I really like the outcome :)
In the religious system of Orishaworship, Babalu-Aye is the spirit of illness and disease. In Cuba, he has been syncretized with Saint Lazarus. / He governs epidemics and heals infectious diseases. Though originally associated with smallpox, many of today’s worshippers appeal to Babalu-Aye for healing from HIV/AIDs. / Sources tell us he walks on crutches — or possibly carries them. He also has two dogs. To snif out infection? / He will do his best against infections and epidemics. But like most doctors, Babalu-Aye is very overworked and understaffed. However, he will not say no to offerings of white wine and popcorn.
Bio-hazard infected zombie warning
Same dude from “Yum Letter”! The blood is a metaphor for the word ‘virus’, which is what his name, Veyerus, is styled after.

For Immediate Release Monday March 09,2009 / Las Vegas Nevada Vegas Vision Studios model Sidney Weite infected with previously un-discovered mutating body paint virus that is rapidly turning the once aspiring model into what appears to be a large form of a Coral Snake. VVS Head Makeup Artist Debra Weite says that the infection first appeared under the models chin and looked to be a minor rash. Within a matter of hours the virus had taken over better then half of the girls body and it was feared that extreme measures would be required to prevent the virus from spreading throughout her body and completely mutating the girl into a reptilian form. Bobby Deal VVS President and photographer is quoted as saying “In all my years of working with models I have never seen such an invasive and radical transformation of a model. In a mere two hours this girl has gone from promising young prospect to a venomous viper. At this point I am unsure what we can do to save her. The Center for Body Paint Transformation Control was called in late Sunday night to assess the situation and determined that the best course of action that they could take was to call in the noted body paint virus defender Pink Samurai Leopard to fight the reptilian beast. The staff of VVS managed to transmit the following images of the infected model as well as an image of the infected subject locked in mortal combat with Pink Leopard which shall appear in mulitple locations across the Redbubble Network. Shortly after this communication was received all contact with VVS was suddenly lost. Communications experts are working frantically to try and restore communication with the Las Vegas studio complex as the world waits to see the out come of this epic battle. # Nikon D300 / 18-200 VR

In 2001, after spending almost a year speaking to refugees in India, I finally went to Tibet to make a documentary on life for Tibetans under the Chinese occupation. Of all the beautiful, tragic and helpless people I saw and met in what is left of Tibet, this child stood out. Maybe it was because our meeting was fleeting: I shot this image with an 18-200 lens at quite a distance as her family herded sheep… Or maybe it was because I wonder to this day where she is and what has become of her. What is absolutely clear is that her life, just like every other Tibetan living under China’s grim fist, will never be what it could have been if the Chinese had not invaded Tibet half a century ago. I have often battled with what I saw in Tibet. Part of me broke there because I realised that no matter how many voices condemn the atrocities that take place there every day, it won’t make a difference because of China’s growing economic might. The fact that the Olympics of 2008 ever took place proved me right. I don’t shout about Tibet anymore but I do like to remind people that while we continue to consume Chinese goods and partner the Chinese in their ‘progression’ we should always be mindful of the Tibetans whose identity, religion and education has been largely forgotten… For economic gain. Tashi Delek…
I’m kinda serious here…
What China has done to Tibet has always filled me with angst. Despite their lot, Tibetans have the happiest smiles and the most wonderful faces. I do hope one day they will be able to smile again, in their own country, free of the Chinese disease that has been allowed to spread for over 50 years watched by disinterested world governments. Free Tibet.
Infection Part 3: / The final stage of the disease. / The infected now blend in. No traces are visible on the outside other than their eyes. They now walk among us, able to pass as normal people, gaining access to “safe” points. The end has come. A new breed of human is born. They are faster, stronger, smarter, and most of all, immortal. Only a few are immune, but the disease has evolved, and the immune give birth to infected children that are immune to any and all disease. What has become of our race? What will become of our world? Only time will tell, and time has just run out.
id just watched 28 days later followed be resident evil and then the ring… hence the flies.
““A disease is created in medical warfare. / Designed to send the living into a state of trance, their souls ripped form their bodies, and leaving them at a primitive state after a week of coming in contact with the disease. / They have no identity, and all they know is fear. / A pandemic broke loose, killing off 90% of the world as it advanced and signs began showing after only one hour of coming in contact. The infected burned and their ashes stored in a secret underground military base. / One trace lived on as society was re-built, for it never killed the animals it came into contact with. / A dog bit someone, and the disease was back, this time twice as strong, and the effects much greater. / The human race as we know it will cease to exist in a matter of days. / People start to lose faith in their God, and soon the suicide rate increases as faith goes down for fear of becoming infected. / It seems this sickness has gotten the best of human-kind. / There is no savior. There is no hope…” A paragraph from a short story I wrote after I saw 28 Days Later for the first time. I wanted to turn it into a school play, but seeing as I was in public school, somehow the whole “there is no savior” thing made the school board flip out because they didn’t want a “satanic” play because the christain administrator was offended. go figure. wasn’t even satanic in the least. hooray ignorance! This one has no glowsticks. Only black light. My friend used a very light blush, and that’s what gave her the pink color. The freckles are just natural (She’s a red head). / I have to make a note, though: I did NOT photoshop this in any way, other than slightly brighten it. I prefer to stay away from photoshop. I like to have my work amazing as the original. hah.

Infected zombie may bite.
well I was a weird child and yeah nothing much has changed…. This is my self portrait. Note the one back eye and one white eye. I don’t know how that worked out but I like it.

These trees are victims of the blight that has decimated some areas in California. Big Sur is one of those areas but the incidence of trees that can be killed by it is less than places like Sacramento, where I live. Nevertheless, the damage is obvious once you see these trees up close; from a distance they looked so starkly beautiful that I was reminding myself to capture a pile of them in photographs for use later, especially in black and white. But once I knew what it was that I was seeing, a lot of the charm dropped away immediately: Sacramento has Dutch Elm Disease wiping out thousands of years of massive elm trees. We are all too familiar with the ravages of a scourge removing the beauty, shade and history of our city. As of yet, there’s no way to really know how to control Big Sur’s blight. But with fire toasting infected trees easiest, should we be more happy nature is fighting back against a disease or more scared that the very smoke we’re all breathing may contain spores of the disease, spreading it more effectively than even the wildlife running from the flames? Sure makes you pause to wonder, doesn’t it?
This feral ginger cat looks like he has a tear in his eye…. it is actually an infection, poor thing. There were 16 assorted cats and kittens on this piece of fenced in land and most of them had eye infections. They had plenty of food – the holidaymakers passed by everyday and fed them and they will be fed during the winter by donations from tourists – but no healthcare.
