This little girl had the most striking eyes I’ve ever seen. ‘Meenakshi’ means ‘one who has fish-like eyes’: Meena (fish) + Akshi (eyes). The photo was taken on New Year’s Eve at Varkala Beach, Kerala, India. There were many Indian people on the beach and I went over to ‘hang out’ with them. This girl’s elderly grandmother asked me if I would take a photo of her grand daughter – I happily obliged!! I showed her the photo on the back of the digital camera, and suddenly I had 20 or 30 Indian women surrounding me wanting to look at the photo. The nicest thing then happened – when they saw the photo, they all wanted to touch my arm. It was my most memorable experience during the whole 6 weeks.

“THE STORY OF DESTINY She was separated from her Mother who had escaped into the frigid waters, during the terrifying confusion of the seal hunt. Meanwhile the Baby floated away alone, on a tiny raft of pack ice. She drifted throughout the night, desperately calling for her Mother. i’ve been photographing newborns since the beginning of february of ‘09… my partner loves to photograph babies and i’d much rather photograph dogs… i know, weird… BUT i’m glad we chose to do newborn sessions together because it’s amazing images like this and opportunities like this that just don’t come along all the time if ever… today was an amazing day… today was our first triplet newborn session… and i had these hats especially made just for these three gals… don’t they just melt your heart?! taken with sony alpha a900 50mm f/1.4
