A while back a woman I work with brought some acrylic paints in and gave them to me. They had belonged to her 22 year old son who was an artist and who died about 10 years ago. It meant so much to me that she gifted me with his paints. I learned that she likes elephants and trees, so I painted this for her and I used only the paints that had belonged to her son.

This work is taken from 3 pieces of older reproductions of Native American artifacts that I have on the wall in cases. The double headed war axe was a prized piece because metal was was rare and usually obtained from settlers. It was generally decorated with scalps. The Turtle Shell Rattle was used to drive off evil spirits and to bring good fortune to the tribe. The Grandfather Rattle was made by the elders of the tribe. Often a grandfather of a new grandchild made it and it was then given to the child as a toy.
The day after an ice storm with the sun breaking through to turn all to crystal.
© 2008 The rose, neglected / Begins to fade; / Its beauty slowly dims. / One by one / The petals drop / Leaving a stem / Naked and bare / Adorned only with thorns. The petals / Are sadly gathered and saved / And placed on a dusty shelf. / In a pretty little / Forgotten bowl Sometimes a wayward breeze / Steals it way inside / To stir an aromatic memory / In which the rose still lives / Red, eternal and painfully sweet.
A suprising (to me) fractal created from one of my pieces of art.
