  • Machu Picchu
    by Rhona

    US$3.14–US$83.60

Hidden on top of a mountain in the jungle, Machu Picchu was rediscovered in 1911 by an American archaeologist. Nobody`s really sure what it was used for as there are no records of it in the Spanish conquistadors (which is of course in part what saved it from being destroyed). We got there on one of the first buses and were there for sunrise which was beautiful. We then spent most of the day hanging about and exploring the ruins.

Like many girls i found this one paired with a baby alpaca with her mother selling their wares on the steep roadsides of the Colca Canyon in Peru, i enjoy the contrast between her stern distant expression and the mischief going on behind her back, which, moments later made her crack up with laughter.

    by Ben Ryan

On the road between Arequipa and Chivay, Peru, the colour of the tassles on these llamas (pron: jamas) is visible from a great distance against the dull brown and green of the highland Andes. The Inca had bred the llamas so selectively, their fleeces naturally produce 27 different colours (though not on one animal), ranging from white to dark brown and black. One of four camelids indigenous to the Andes, they were the pack animals of the Andes (and still are), as well as providing wool (though not as fine as that of the Alpaca).
