Dead Poets Series Perhaps if Death is kind, and there can be returning, / We will come back to earth some fragrant night, / And take these lanes to find the sea, and bending / Breathe the same honeysuckle, low and white. We will come down at night to these resounding beaches / And the long gentle thunder of the sea, / Here for a single hour in the wide starlight / We shall be happy, for the dead are free. Immigration / MCN:C82-QGC1-2213 From Latina Lista Website: Immigrant detention is called “detention” because detainees are not being held for criminal charges. Immigrants are the only group of people in the United States that are routinely held in jail for civil offenses. Paradoxically, while immigrant detainees are held for lesser offenses, they can be held indefinitely, and they do not have the same legal protections, such as the right to free legal counsel, as people who have been charged with crimes. The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, prejudices to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy, and a thoughtless frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all its own for the children, and the children yet unborn. To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them, to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then, when it becomes necessary again, to draw it back from oblivion for just so long as it is needed, to deny the existence of objective reality and all the while to take account of the reality which one denies George Orwell,1949. “Wherever you go, I will go… (Ruth 1:16)” was featured in the group Soul Mates The title is taken from a Biblical verse, concerning the deep loyalty of one woman to another: / 8 And Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go, return each to her mother’s house. The LORD deal kindly with you, as you have dealt with the dead and with me. 9 The LORD grant that you may find rest, each in the house of her husband.” / So she kissed them, and they lifted up their voices and wept. 10 And they said to her, “Surely we will return with you to your people.” / 11 But Naomi said, “Turn back, my daughters; why will you go with me? Are there still sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands? 12 Turn back, my daughters, go—for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say I have hope, if I should have a husband tonight and should also bear sons, 13 would you wait for them till they were grown? Would you restrain yourselves from having husbands? No, my daughters; for it grieves me very much for your sakes that the hand of the LORD has gone out against me!” / 14 Then they lifted up their voices and wept again; and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth clung to her. / 15 And she said, “Look, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods; return after your sister-in-law.” / 16 But Ruth said: “ Entreat me not to leave you, / Or to turn back from following after you; / For wherever you go, I will go; / And wherever you lodge, I will lodge; / Your people shall be my people, / And your God, my God. / 17 Where you die, I will die, / And there will I be buried. / The LORD do so to me, and more also, / If anything but death parts you and me.” Ruth 1, New King James Version Part of the verses 16 and 17 is written (in Hebrew) on the right side of the drawing. The drawing depicts my own story, with a similar theme… In my case it was a bit more complicated sort of bond and loyalty. As for the details of my own case… Suomi is the Finnish word for Finland, and I immigrated to Finland 12 years ago from Israel because of my ex… That’s quite a lot said, as personal stories go… It’s NOT A PENCIL DRAWING – it’s a pointillistic INK drawing, like all my other drawings. Shot at Pier 21, Halifax, the former Canadian immigration centre. It’s a museum now, but ships still come in to the port and in fact in the picture the white object out the window is a cruiser that had just pulled into port.

I photographed Antonio in 1977. I was working on a story pertaining to abominable housing of illegal alien migrant farm workers in Homestead, Florida. Basically they were slave labor, housed in concentration camp environments. Enjoy your next tomato! Nikon FTn, 50mm f.14, TriX film.

If someone told me when I was growing up—with all the talk of the evils of the Berlin Wall—that we (the USA) would be building a wall to keep people out of our country, I would not have believed it. I would have thought it impossible. Frost said it best: ...Before I built a wall I’d ask to know / What I was walling in or walling out, / And to whom I was like to give offence…
