This shot is taken in the north of Rwanda near the DR Congo border. It showcases the absurd beauty of this broken land. Known as the land of one thousand hills Rwanda is bursting at the seams. This shots is part of the ‘world’s most expensive card’ promotion initiated by John Robb. It has raised close to $700 AUD so far.

After a very long winter (so far) I needed something that sang Spring time is just around the corner! After a lot of fuss, and several hours, in Photoshop and Painter X this is the final result. Every pixel of this piece was re-painted (digitally) by hand. All of the apple blossoms and leaves were created from scratch. As a final touch I added some texture to the piece to give it that last little edge I was looking for. The Divine in Me is all about creation and how it turn us a particle of the Divinity. When we establish contact with our “creative being”, we become a channel for the Superior Power to manifest through us. When we have an idea, it becomes first “plasmed” in the upper planes as materialized thoughts. Then we turn them real in the physical level, through a painting, music, poetry or whatever artistic language we are trained on. I represented this principle by an ethereal sunflower garden – the sunflower is linked to the symbolism Sun/God/Creation – from which we pick the “flowers of imagination” we once planted and bring them to life in the real world.

There is a phenomenon that Jazz musicians call “Woodshedding” which is when a player retreats from the world of playing gigs and locks himself in a room (or woodshed as the case may be) until he “gets it right”..or has a breakthrough in his skill/creativity level.. Interestingly enough an artistic form of woodshedding is precisely what inspired this piece ; I have consciously been working on getting better as an artist and this piece represents the breakthrough – both in technique and in inspiration… Quite frankly – it is the first piece that I am truly satisfied with, the first where there isn’t a little voice telling me that I am not good enough and it is now the benchmark for my future works… I am never looking back again…
