This image was captured while on a photo meet up with fellow redbubblers at the historic site of the Gladesville Hospital. Spotting this lone hat positioned at the base of the steps provided a perfect opportunity to capture something which is an icon of Australia. At the time I didn’t know who’s hat it was it was only after I uploaded this image that the owners identity was revealed…. About the Opera House The Sydney Opera House is Sydney’s premier performing arts centre and an International Icon of Sydney and Australia. The building was world heritage listed in June 2007. In 1956 the government held a design competition and the winning design was chosen as the bases for the construction of the Opera House. The winning design was by Jørn Utzon. There were some hiccups in construction but the Opera House was opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1973. There have been some modern alteration and today the Opera House is renowned as a world class venue. In 2003 Jørn Utzon received the Pritzker Prize, international architecture’s highest honour for his work.
