I use a combination of ink, pastel, charcoal and acrylic paint. I like to use pastel over the top of acrylic, allowing the acrylic to show through a bit. Hula Hips is a really out there kinda girl, loves life and lives it to the full! A nice happy birthday card this would make :D

I love hornets, I don’t like being around them but I’ve always thought that there are much worse jobs if you have to be reincarnated as an insect. / Nobody messes with a hornet. I was thinking of the Book of Kells when I got the idea for this. A brother & younger sister got chased by a tiger at night, and they climbed up a big tree. When the tiger found the way to get up there, the children prayed to god to rescue them from the danger. God responded to the prayer and let down a rope, and the children were pulled up to the sky. After seeing this, the tiger also prayed to god for a rope, and a rope came down. But, alas, it was a rotten one! The tiger, therefore, fell in the middle of the air and landed on a millet field. The brother went up into the sky and became the moon, and the sister, who was shy and was afraid to be alone at night, became the sun. (There are actually more to say about the story, but I only described the things which are related to the image!) One of my favourite shows is Outrageous Fortune, and one of the characters Pascalle West has an incredible storyline about being a kind of new age guru who tries to change everyone’s lives. I edited my original illustration of Carnival Skull to enter the ‘Happy’ challenge. / So I guess this is a self portrait if I were a heavily tattooed sugar skull! / If this represented my happiness on a scale from 1-10, it would have to be a 10..extremely jolly!
