From the Federal Reserve Act: To provide for the establishment of Federal reserve banks, to furnish an elastic currency, to afford means of rediscounting commercial paper, to establish a more effective supervision of banking in the United States, and for other purposes. LEARN Liberty does not consist in mere declarations of the rights of man. It consists in the translation of those declarations into definite action. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated Governments in the world – no longer a Government of free opinion, no longer a Government by conviction and vote of the majority, but a Government by the opinion and duress of small groups of dominant men. A white trillium serves as the emblem and official flower of the Canadian province of Ontario In the east of North America, the most common is Trillium grandiflorum (Large-flowered Trillium). This plant has a large, often white, three-petaled flower above three broad bracts that look like leaves. The name was given by Linnaeus. Trillium grandiflorum is often the first wildflower noticed by casual walkers; other spring wildflowers are much less apparent. In western North America, a typical species is Trillium ovatum (Western Trillium) also with white flowers, that slowly turn into a shade of purple in the middle of spring. / Picking the flowers of Trillium can seriously injure the plant. The three leaves below the flower are the plant’s only food source and a picked trillium may die or take many years to recover / / For this reason in many areas, e.g. British Columbia, Michigan, New York, Oregon, and Washington, it is illegal to pick trilliums. It is also protected and requires written permission to transplant or move in the state of Wisconsin. While a popular belief is held that it is illegal to pick the common Trillium grandiflorum (white trillium) in Ontario, no such law actually exists. However, the Trillium flexipes (drooping trillium) is protected by law in Ontario where it maintains its very small Canadian population

As part of a leadership conference I attended in Ottawa, we visited the RCMP training center, but only displays and exhibits they had set up outside. Needless to say, this was a special event put together just for the youth like myself, and photographs were allowed, and thus I couldn’t help grabbing a shots of this one. I don’t know if this really qualifies as art, but I thought it was definitely Card material. If you don’t get this photo or understand the title… well, I don’t think I should have to explain it to you =)

Behold, the dreamer cometh, / Come now thereforth / and let us slay him…. / and we shall see / what will become / of his dreams….. This is a picture taken in Newtown recently of a legendary mural that adores the main throughfare, King street. Its a very old (painted in 1991) illegal bit of street art that has subsequently become an iconic part of the area. A very simple design. The face of Martin Luther King next to a large and now very faded reresentation of the world and under that are the first couple of words from a very famous speech given by Dr King. ’ I have a dream….”Underneath it is a representation of the Aboriginal flag. It was a wonderful speech and its a wonderful and enduring mural. It was painted all that time ago by two people who were both very damaged and maybe even a bit mad at the time. He was on the run from the law for a terrible crime and she had just been abandoned by her husband, leaving her destitute with three tiny children and an imminant eviction. They were both artists and met one day when they were both painting something on the side of a building on the same street. In their mutally recognized despair and confusion they decided to reach inside to somewere really deep and give a gift of themselves to all around in order to stave off the darkness that otherwise would have engulfed them and tumbled them right down into the pits of hell. Not far from where they were was a blank three story wall on the side of building on the main street. Perfect. So less than two weeks after they they had met they painted this great humanist message on the side of this building, knowing full well that they risked imprisonment for defacing the street with this simple but profound message of peace and love. And they poured it out over two days and two nights. Never even signed it but rather gave it as a gift to anyone who could see it for what it really meant. Then walked away in the silence of the night not really expecting much from it. But the people of Newtown took this gift in to their hearts and in the ensuing 17 years it has become one of the best loved and most iconic representations of this amazingly diverse and vibrant community. Almost a sacred symbol of Newtown really. Funny story this one. The artists never made a penny out of it and are not even really know for their own work but sometimes just sometimes one of them reflects on the inanity and shallowness of the artworld and wonders why she bothers and then she remembers that sometimes just sometimes the gift of the spirit moves in her and no matter how hard it all is sometimes …. that it really is worthwhile to give of yourself. That it can make a difference to work from the heart. And that thought helps her get through the next bit of time.

I’ve spent the day scanning old negatives for an particular project I’m working on and I came across some images of this. Do I know what it is? Oh yes. Do you know what it is? Lets see. Is this a fake? Oh no its the real deal. Shot in 1982 when the world was a different place. Was it a better time or not? I don’t know. Was it more dangerous. I can’t tell. Was this type of import more prevelant or more insidous? I don’t know. Was it mine. No. I just happened to be somewhere were I saw it and was allowed to photograph it. Have I seen one since? No not for ages and ages and thank goodness for that. Is it still going on? You bet baby. This is Osama’s gift to the west. We give them death and destruction and they give us the same thing back just wrapped up pretty and sprayed with gold paint.

The February 2008 issue of Popular Photography has a wonderful article on internet theft of photography and copyright issues and procedures. I couldn’t find it in the table of contents at the front of the magazine, but the article is titled “Grant Theft Photo” and starts on page 81. This has been a really hot topic on tons of internet photography sites lately, and I just thought that many Redbubblers might want to read it. It makes a good companion piece to Helen Bascom’s writings on copyright and photographer’s rights.

This rabbit was slightly injured and had one ear that would/couldn’t be raised like the other one. That probably accounted for the very shy nature because it couldn’t hear well in multiple directions simultaneously for protection. But it didn’t run off either so I did some quick shots of him and his oddly shaped face. Maybe it’s old and has jowls like old men. Maybe his parents were brother and sister. Or maybe he’s a rare breed of expensive hopper. One thing’s for sure tho: he’s abandoned in a neighbourhood park along with up to hundreds more rabbits. Crosswoods Park is the illegal and unethical “dumping ground” for Easter Bunnies ‘off the bloom’ faster than lilies, pets that chewed every wire in the house, and animals that are injured or sick. But the side effect of so many former pets out free is that they will often approach people and some will even let you pet them. I’ve feed a few by hand and it’s a heartwarming experience with a wild animal. :-)
