  • 1977 Nikkormat FT2 / 50mm f/2 / Film: Ilford XP2 Aces Cafe @ Zwartkops Raceway This was at Zwartkops Raceway here in South Africa on race day. It’s drivers briefing and all the drivers gather in the cafe while the Clerk of the Course gives a whole safety-first speech, etc. I spot this bad ass mother###er of a driver. I mean, just look at him. It would have been more apparent had you been able to see the “No Smoking” sign right behind him….but the dork was standing in the way! And there was my juxtaposition I wanted to convey. The contrast between these two drivers’ characters was intriguing for me. However, this is off-circuit, and when you’d think you wouldn’t want to mess with the bad ass mother###er on-track, I’d actually keep my eye out for the dork. You don’t judge books by their covers in racing, and there’s a beast lurking in that dork, I assure you ;)

  • I love shooting film, especially B&W – don’t get to do it enough. I don’t process myself but use a ‘lightroom’ to scan the negatives when processed. These are shots from our recent Cornwall trip, processed with a little help from Photoshop

  • Using a 4X5 Tachihara field camera and Ilford FP4 ISO 125 professional B&W film, this photo was made from Ha Ling Peak outside Canmore, Alberta, Canada. The subject is Mount Lawrence Grassi, an extension of the Rundle thrust block that extends roughly from the town of Banff to Canmore in Alberta. The whole line of mountains is one long ridge that may be climbed in its entirety by the brave, foolish, and technically equipped. I just climbed one end, then the other. This end is significantly shorter, Rundle Peak (the main peak on the ridge) is just about 1300 meters above ground level, Ha Ling is only 850 or so. The whole block is mostly limestone.
