A beachside view on the island of La Gonave, a twenty-minute flight from Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince. Haiti gets a lot of bad press for its political instability and fierce violence. However getting out of the city and onto the island was like arriving in another world- the sedate pace of life and gorgeous tropical scenery was a step away from paradise, marred only by the physical poverty of the place. While I’m willing to admit that Port-au-Prince really isn’t the nicest spot on earth, Ile de la Gonave definitely ranks up towards the top of my must-go-back-to spots.
