  • un-installation

This was done at an art gallery called Art Garden in Okayama, Japan. An installation that was technically never installed. Performance art that was witnessed by no one so was it even performed? One could argue that neither ever took place. Good thing I was able to capture the evidence of its non-existence with my camera…. I had an opportunity to use the gallery space for some photos. Given the setting I wanted to create something that looked like a physical installation. This “structure” was drawn by me and my cohort and recorded by my camera. It is completely made of light and nothing else. It was gone the instant it was created. This image is straight from the camera. No photoshop was used nor any post editing of any kind was done. It was created using the light painting method. Numerous hand held flashes were strategically fired around the room to illuminate the space. A picture of the space during the day is visible here Camera: Canon EOS 40D / Exposure: 123 / Aperture: f/7.1 / Focal Length: 17 mm / ISO Speed: 100 This has to be one of my favorites art projects I have ever done… I had an A4 size printed of this and it looks incredible.

Done at Art Garden art gallery in Okayama, Japan. This image was created specifically for the gallery. It was our way of saying ‘thank you’ as they were kind enough to let us use the space at night. We look forward to doing some joint art projects with them in the future. • Swiss Igloo
    by Sally P Moore

    US$4.32–US$98.80

On Feb 8th 2007 it was snowing in London. Since we work in the Gherkin, Diana and I decided we would sneak up to the top of the building to see what it was like up there during the snow storm. We were expecting it to be like a snow globe and we weren’t disappointed. The snow had settled into some of the steel diamonds and it was quite magical. The sun was trying to creep through the clouds and shone on the harsh metal structure softening it. It was like being in a transparent igloo with gentle snow billowing outside. I thought it was a shame we didn’t have a camera and decided to take a shot with my blackberry which only has 2 megapixels. I was really pleased with the outcome and named it Swiss Igloo as it was still owned by Swiss Re at the time. It rarely snows in the City of London so it was nice to capture the moment. • IGLOO SNOW HOUSE
    by SofiaYoushi

    US$4.16–US$95.00

An igloo translated sometimes as snow house, is a shelter constructed from blocks of snow, generally in the form of a dome. There are three types of igloo, all of different sizes and all are used for different purposes. The smallest is constructed as a temporary shelter, while out on the land or sea ice camped in one of these iglooit for one or two nights.Next in size was the semi-permanent, intermediate sized family dwelling. This usually was a single room dwelling that housed one or two families. Often there were several of these in a small area, which formed an Inuit village. The largest of the igloos was normally built in groups of two. One of the buildings was a temporary building constructed for special occasions, the other was built near by for living. A large igloo may have been constructed from several smaller igloos attached by their tunnels giving a common access to the outside. These were used to hold community feasts, and traditional dances.

Scene rendered in Vue Po 6.5. Santa, reindeer & sleigh is a freebie from Google Warehouse. It was imported into the demo of Google Sketchup Pro and exported as an obj. I modeled the igloo in Wings3D and textured in Vue. Mrs Claus, trees and mail box was painted by me in Corel Paint Shop Pro. I also used Artweaver for some post work… Love the chalk in Artweaver… Merry Christmas & all the Best in 2007… Kenmo

My first attempt at a Holiday Card i suppose. It didn’t start that way, but I really liked the result. This was my first scene ever done in Poser. Usually I would just make the figures in there, then paste together in PSP. I did paste the polar bear and wolf separately, and the background was done in bryce, with brushes added, but the rest of the scene was all done in one file in Poser. This took me nearly a week to complete. Maybe 5 hours a day or so. This was also the first time i ever used brushes actually in PS, instead of extracting and using in PSP. Feedback always encouraged and appreciated. / You may not use my artwork without my permission. If you’d like to use a piece, contact me and we’ll discuss how you can. Mellon Arena (formerly the Civic Auditorium and Civic Arena, nicknamed The Igloo) is an arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It primarily serves as the home to the Pittsburgh Penguins, the city’s National Hockey League (NHL) franchise. Constructed in 1961, for the use of the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera (CLO) Mellon Arena has hosted multiple concerts, as well as hockey, basketball, tennis, boxing, wrestling, and soccer matches. The Arena was the world’s first major indoor sports stadium with a retractable roof. It is named for Mellon Financial, which purchased the naming rights in 1999. As of 2009, Mellon Arena is the oldest and lowest capacity arena in the NHL. In later years, the arena’s staff was forced to use space for mutiple purposes never intended in the building’s original design The Penguins franchise agreed to a deal with city and state officials to fund a new home arena for the franchise in March 2007. The Consol Energy Center will be located across the street from the site of Mellon Arena and will have a higher seating capacity. It is expected to open for the 2010–11 NHL season, at which point the Mellon Arena is scheduled for demolition The Penguins won this years Stanley cup championship in a thrilling 7 games vs the Detroit RedWings in a series for the ages Taken with the nikon d-80 and the nikkor 18-135mm lens /

  • Another great find in Pleasant Grove, Utah today! Brent Christensen has made this beautiful ice castle out of snow, ice and water – NO substructure. As of today, I would say the ice castle is about 25 feet high and has an ice slide, and an igloo built into it. He began making this castle about four weeks ago and is continuing construction each day. If you want to know how to build an ice castle you can go to Tom’s web site www.flyingwrench.com, he has a video you can watch to see how it’s done.
