Continuing with my uploaded series of the Neverland Collection and how it took me into my current or rather ongoing obsession with Antarctica. I originally flew over Antarctica on a NYE flight as a guest of my uncle and his jazz band way back in 1999. While on that flight I took a couple of intreging photo’s with Infrared film that really started the whole shebang off. These images are Midnight over Antarctica / and Zeus over Antarctica / and these two photo’s are the beginning. Then I retreated to my studio and read and thought and painted till I could come to terms with what I was trying to comprehend…. that period is detailed here When I’d got all the painting out of my system I knew I had to go back out into the landscape but with a camera…. I really find my voice is stronger with a camera… anyway my studio was at that time in the suburb of St Peters in Sydney and was very near to a huge park called …very imagingatively…..Sydney Park! Anyway I would just roam about early in the mornings and over a period of a couple of months I put together a small series of interesting black and white IR photographs which I called the Neverland Collection. This image I have just posted is the lead image if you like the one that all the others followed from and it’s about the ‘idea’ of home. The fantastical notions we carry within us that we hold precious like this bucolic representation of the ideal western highly romantisized idea of the perfect unattainable landscape…... hence its title….. Neverland…...
Valhalla (Old Norse Valhöll, “Hall of the Slain”) is Odin’s hall in Norse mythology, located in the Asgardian realm of Gladsheim and is the home for those slain gloriously in battle (known as Einherjar) who are welcomed by Bragi and escorted to Valhalla by the valkyries. (The “höll” part of Valhöll means ‘hall’.) The term ‘Valhalla’ has entered popular usage for an ideal, heaven-like destiny. Painting using acrylics, ink and gold pigment.
Acrylic On Canvas (Original Sold) Concept:You feel that you are unique and set apart for bigger things, not just another sheep under the shepherd’s shears.
Oil Pastel and Acrylic (Original Sold) Concept: It has been slightly more than 365 days that I resigned from my previous job to pursue this. I drew this on that first year anniversary to remind myself of my dreams, to let them burn brightly always and keep them within sight. Out of sight = Out of mind :D / You can view my other “The Dreamer” creations in my Zazzle Gallery:
Oil Pastel and Acrylic Concept: Like The Dreamer, this was drawn on the first year anniversary, 365 days of being on my own after resigning from previous job. I feel that I’m in the season of sowing, toiling in love for the things that matter most to me. The heat is on! Will press on nevertheless!! :D View my other “The Sower” creations in my Zazzle store:
Ophelia woke up exceptionally early this morning and took flight to Mount of A Thousand Dreams. Legend has it that thousands had visited this Mount and returned to their homes with renewed sense of hope for their dreams. Ophelia chose a spot near one of the Mount’s cliffs and set her sight on the vast landscape ahead of her. “What beautiful mountains and valleys!” Ophelia cried out in awe of what was before her and what followed immediately was a revelation revealed by her heart! In that moment of truth, Ophelia understood that none of us are meant to stay on a peak forever. There are new exploits, new worlds and discoveries that await us. Even as one has triumphed over the mountain terrains and conquered peaks, one also has to humbly make the descent and walk through the valley experiences in life in order to be on the other mountain where new things await us. With this, Ophelia’s resolve was greatly strengthened. (An artwork that’s dedicated to all who are going through the ups and downs of life in one way or another :D)
Well, kind of. This is as near to an apocalyptic scene as Cleethorpes is ever likely to get. Until the apocalypse, that is. But that’s not coming for at least 2 years, so this will do in the meantime.
A drawing collection of Ophelia in oil pastel and acrylic mediums. Every picture represents her thoughts and outlook on life in general and she wants to share those with you every month of the year :D See Loving Friends,Loving Life calendar: Ophelia’s Friends calendar at my smile4me gallery
The Farm is a scenic view of one of the many farms on the rural outskirts of Canberra. Behind the scenes / Often, images are born of hard work, careful planning and a lot of patience. Sometimes though, a wonderful scene will appear by chance. It was late in the day when a storm front came over forming some striking cloud formations over the pale brown landscape. The subdued light and limited colours made for a scene similar to a pastel painting. / Canon 1Ds mkIII | EF 100-400mm Artwork / The soft pastel tones and simple composition of this work make it a fantastic addition to your decor. Let The Farm be a window into a peaceful landscape as a framed print or enjoy its’ simple beauty as a canvas. © 2008 A Spence. All Rights Reserved
