Morning rainbow, Jokulsarlon, Iceland Iceland / Belgium / Italy / France / Hungary / Spain / Sri Lanka / USA / London / Portraits / Other Jokulsarlon is a glacial lake that meets the sea in Iceland. One of the most beautiful places i have been on our little planet Earth. The tragedy is that this beautiful photo would not be possible without global warming. When in a cafe at a petrol station i saw a postcard of Jokulsarlon. One single large iceberg floating in the centre. As you can see now the lake is full. Note: The size if this work was increased using Photoshop CS2. / Best size being around the 50cm wide.

The most beautiful Church, in the most fantastic wild setting, i have ever seen. Early evening in Vik, Iceland, with the backdrop of the mountains behind the Church.
A night shot of the blue lagoon. Ironically it was about minus two outside the pool and boiling hot inside. While I was photographing this it was snowing. As always there is always something happening….
The Icelandic Harvester. / / When I came across this old vessel moored to the pier my imagination started running wild with scenarios of what life aboard this wooden vessel would have been like. I could almost feel the sineous texture of the ropes as they hung there coated in the ice cold saltwater of the frigid North Atlantic Ocean. I could nearly hear the calls of the sailors as they shouted commands back and forth across her weather beaten decks as the waves crashed down upon her on any one of her numerous voyages. What sights must have been seen as sailors of old lined the rails to peer down at the mysteries of the sea. How many men were lost at sea and how many made it home with wild stories of his adventure aboard the Icelandic Harvester. / / Shot with a Canon 400D and processed in Lightroom 2. / / NautilusBlue / / nominated this image to be showcased in the group Pay It Forward and this is what she had to say… / / Ice Breaker / by Kevin Kroeker / I think it is an outstanding image with great composition ( great leading lines) with lots of drama and the colours are amazing . It shows us the harshness of the climate. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography /
My first visit & hopefully not my last. I was truly "Lost in Iceland" as the tee-shirts there proclaimed. I want to get lost there again right now if I could, but next time comes in June not November. I took this at Geysir, home of the original “geyser”, where hot mud bubbles & steam rises up from deep under the Earth. A place of quiet backlit wonder late on a November afternoon…

TOP 10 in challenge “Who wants to be the new avatar?” in group Landscape and Abstract Photography TOP 10 in challenge “Waterfall Groum avatar challenge” in group Waterfall Photography From Wikipedia The waterfall *Skógafoss, [‘skou.aˌfos], is situated in the south of Iceland at the cliffs of the former coastline. After the coastline had receded into the sea (it is now at a distance of about 5 km from Skógar), the cliffs stayed behind parallel to the coast over hundreds of kilometers, creating together with some mountains a clear border between the Lowlands and the Highlands of Iceland. The Skógafoss is one of the biggest and most beautiful waterfalls of the country with a width of 25 meters and a drop of 60 meters. Due to the amount of spray the waterfall consistently produces, a single or double rainbow is normally visible on sunny days. According to legend, the first Viking settler in the area, Þrasi Þórólfsson, buried a treasure in a cave behind the waterfall. A local boy found the chest years later, but was only able to grasp the ring on the side of the chest before it disappeared again. At the eastern side of the waterfall, a hiking and trekking trail leads up to the pass Fimmvörðuháls between the glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull. It goes down to Þórsmörk on the other side and continues as the famous Laugavegur to Landmannalaugar.
An old favorite of mine, the old lighthouse. Love that lighthouse always ready there to sit for me.

An old (RAW) image ("not THAT one AGAIN!") that I finally had a chance (with some guidance, thanks Ramona!) to play with & tidy up properly in PhotoShop recently… It’s Sunday morning here, been raining a lot lately, nothing new to upload this week, so I’m mentally revisiting, & getting lost in, Iceland, again… To see my Set "Lost in Iceland" click here
It’s a glacial lake in Iceland, some 400km east of Reykjavik. The drive alone features volcanic beaches, swamps, mountains, grasslands, moss-covered boulders, occasional snow, icecaps and glaciers. That somehow, Iceland can top EVEN THAT and bring you an iceberg lagoon is pretty staggering. It doubled for Siberia in the film ‘Tomb Raider’ (2001) and was also the scene of a race between a jet-powered kayak and Richard Hammond driving some kind of four-wheel drive vehicle on the show Top Gear. And even though the weather wasn’t pure blue sky like I might have wanted, the sense of vastness, of even clouds seemingly unable to resist being drawn into the marvel, is pretty hard to resist
