Canon 400D / Iceberg season is offically upon us for another year. This was the first Iceberg of the season for me. It was a very foggy and drizzly day, but these bergs were well worth venturing out in the weather. / / From the Northern tip of Labrador down to the eastern coast of Newfoundland, the sea that pounds and caresses these shores is nicknamed Iceberg Alley. Bergs born 10,000 years ago on the Greenland icecap dance along the coast and far out to sea, propelled unpredictably by wind and tide, tumbling, twirling, and breaking into fantastic shapes before melting in the warm waters of the gulf stream. / / An iceberg’s journey down Iceberg Alley begins once it breaks off from the edges of Greenland’s glaciers. Dropping into the ocean, it is gripped by the Labrador Current and carried through the dark ocean along the coasts of Newfoundland and Labrador. In the past, during certain times of the year, the alley has been thick with the largest and most beautiful icebergs found anywhere in the world. This is the sixth in my Iceberg series from the 2008 Iceberg season. / / From the Northern tip of Labrador down to the eastern coast of Newfoundland, the sea that pounds and caresses these shores is nicknamed Iceberg Alley. This giant chunk of ancient ice broke off the Iceberg on the horizon and was washed to shore. I carved and cut some of this ice as a keepsake. You can see the fog coming in off the ocean on the horizon slowly creeping its way to shore. The sun was shining but the wind blowing off the berg really chilled the bones. / / From the Northern tip of Labrador down to the eastern coast of Newfoundland, the sea that pounds and caresses these shores is nicknamed Iceberg Alley. Filling up a glass of water and noticed this out of the kitchen window. Literally ran outside with a t-shirt and slippers on to get this before it went. First few shots were a golden amber in color then it went to this before it disappeared. Only snapped about 30 bracketed shots before it was gone. Gonna go a repot my orchid while this is uploading (and I finished it, thanks dial-up). Hope you like it. Please critique… print available here and on my website. An image with a message in it for me at least. I hope you enjoy. A trio of cottonwood leaves frzone into the ice along the Yakima River. One gold, 2 orange, one pointed West and 2 pointed North. A lesson in diversity of color and direction from nature. There is beauty in all!

There was an ice storm a few weeks ago that covered all the trees in icy rain drops. The next day the pine tree in my backyard looked magical when the sun light it the drops… Shot in tungsten with white balance adjustments in Lightroom. Enjoy!
