Shot this back in November, 2004, when the grass was much greener, and there was water in the dam. There’s only been water in that dam one other time since then, and it lasted around 6 weeks….this is a nice reminder of what we used to have…. Wind, water, land, light and life, interacting with a sweet fluid motion. Straw necked Ibis, ducks, and other waterbirds over Lake Corangamite on a spring afternoon with a high wind, the green water is probably due to an algal bloom as is the white foam on the windward side of the islets. This shallow fragile lifezone depends on so many elements for survival, I hope this picture goes someway to show the delicate balancing act required.

I was sitting on this Turkey Vulture waiting to capture a typical Vulture launch from this tree stub when, KA-POW!... , a Red Shouldered Hawk swooped down and knocked this Vulture off his branch. I was stunned to see this same hawk do it again seconds later. / Nothing like good neighbors on the street I guess!

My Moon plus Ibis composite. I’m fairly happy with it – would be happier if those darned birds would actually fly in front of the moon but I guess thats one of the trials and tribulations of being a photographer :) Any suggestions, OR criticism are welcome. You might like to compare it with my Firebird version http://www.redbubble.com/people/lightsmith/art/181498-1-firebird
