This was taken inside the Cathedral of Toledo, in Spain. It was taken on film and the print was scanned to digital. The Cathedral of Saint Mary of Toledo, also called Primate Cathedral of Toledo, is a church in Spain. The seat of the Archdiocese of Toledo, it is one of the three 13th century High Gothic cathedrals in Spain and is considered to be the magnum opus of the Gothic style in Spain. It was begun in 1226 during the reign of Ferdinand III and the last Gothic contributions were made in the 15th century when, in 1493, the vaults of the central nave were finished, during the times of the Catholic Monarchs.

The Roman Theatre of Cartagena was built at the end of the 1st Century BC when Cartagena was a Roman colony, in the era of Emperor Augustus. The theatre was not discovered until 1987 and many of the finds are in the Archaeological Museum. / The terraced seats were built into the northern side of La Concepcion hill which had been excavated to create seating for 6000. Santa Maria La Vieja Cathedral, which you can see mainly at the top left to centre of the photo was built in the 13th Century from materials taken from the Roman theatre. By the sixteenth century, the theatre had been lost to fire and its remains built over and remained well hidden by the town of Cartagena as it grew over the ruins, and was not discovered again until 1987. The town was asked to vote as to whether or not, the buildings standing there in 1987 should remain, or be torn down to find the ruins. The town voted in favour of the excavation and reconstruction of the Roman Theatre. My photo shows how it stands today. Once again in the glory of Rome, many of it’s fine treasures still remaining. © Copyright 2008 Squealia, All Rights Reserved /

Toledo Cathedral in Toledo, Spain, is ranked among the greatest Gothic structures in Europe. Inside, the cathedral contains important masterpieces including a spectacular baroque high altar and two paintings by El Greco. Toledo Cathedral stands on the site of the Great Mosque of Toledo, which itself had replaced a Visigothic church. Built from 1226 to 1493, the long process is reflected in Toledo Cathedral’s variety of styles. This was taken inside one part of this beautiful Cathedral, on film, and the print was scanned to digital. The camera used was an automatic Pentax 35mm film camera and that is all the information that I have.
Although military architecture is often ugly, here the Battery / has been built into the mountainside in the style of a castle, using a lot of / local stone. During the early part of the 20th century a system of coastal defences was constructed to protect the vital harbour of Cartagena. This included forts, guns, fire control systems, searchlights and many other elements. The system included four of the largest artillery pieces ever made – huge 38.1 Vickers guns with a range of some 20 miles. These guns remain in place, two here at the Castillitos battery, at Cabo Tiñoso, near Puerto de Mazarron, & two at the Cenizas battery, near La Manga Club. Up in the open air, the mean and menacing guns point seaward and they would have been virtually impossible to spot from any distance, with their low profile and camouflage. At the back of the battery, out of sight of observers on warships, however, imagination has been allowed to run riot in a mass of turrets, castle walls and decorative stonework. The effect is pretty comical when one considers the deadly power of the guns to the front. Look up and below the big guns and you can see other batteries. Nikon D40, 18-55mm, auto RAW MAP
OK now I have just tried something completely different, rather than just hitting greyscale or similar I have created 4 duplicate layers and altered each layers colour then blended them to try and create an old feel about this image, then i hit it with the burn tool, I hope I have created what I wanted to, but what do you think about it? / This is how it was / / If you wish to know about the history of the Roman reamins please click on the coloured image above, where it’s full history is told! Painted from the terrace of a rented apartment in the tiny village of El Golco. In Andalucia, Southern Spain. / The Moorish architecture, with characteristic domes and ‘godfather’ chimneys. This was my first attempt at ‘en plein air’ painting. / The second of two paintings, I did in El golco. (As I further appraised this, after uploading today, it seems more abstract. Although I didn’t intend that, at the time!) June 2007. / Watercolour, 11” x 8” on rough paper.
Just a street in Cartagena. In fact this is what us Brits would call High Street. I loved the older buildings and the sweeping bend. It i more unusual to see older buildings like this around my part of Spain. they are either new due to the construction boom or old and falling down! Enhanced by psuedo HDR
Taken in Toledo, Spain from the rooftop of our hotel, in the late afternoon. This was taken with a Canon DSLR EOS 350D camera.
This little church is in the middle of nowhere attached to a little finca. The nearest town, Los Montesinos is about 5km away. There are quite a few ruined fincas dotted around so I assume a few decades ago when this part of Spain was still true Spain, all the locals gathered at this little church rather than ride or walk into Los Montesinos. We went for a bit of a hike today to see the Bateria Cenizas, Costa Calida, South East Spain. It is an hours uphill walk from the road. I took 175 pictures so i guess you will all bored with them by the time I have finished! So the first shot is a view looking down onto Portman Bay. There is another Bateria down by the lighthouse. This stretch of coastline has various military installations dating from around 1930. All are abandoned now. Portman itself was a thriving mining area dating back as far as the Romans up until the 1970’s. Even today there is some open quarrying. In the next bay you can see the historical natural harbour of Cartagena. You can see the top of the oil refinery which is sited at it’s entrance. MAP Started photography May 2008

This is a dust covered old and unloved Spanish olive press, which is in the barn at the stables where I keep my horse. Fasintating and made mostly from wood. Just collecting dust, amongst the tack and horse feed!

And in return she sent me the UFO’s. Well I only had one suitable picture for a background as I haven’t taken any others yet! So this is my little fun creation! I hope you enjoy it!
