  • I Am I am calling to you from afar; / Calling to you since the very beginning of days. / Calling to you across millennia, / For aeons of time- / Calling-calling. Since always. It is part of your being, my voice, / But it comes to you faintly and you only hear it sometimes; / “I don’t know,” you may say. / But somewhere you know. / “I can’t hear,” you say, “what is it and where?” / But somewhere you hear, and deep down you know. / For I am that in you which has been always; / I am that in you which will never end. Even if you say, “Who is calling?” / Even if you think, “Who is that?” / Where will you run? Just tell me. / Can you run away from yourself? For I am the Only One for you; / There is no other, / Your Promise, your Reward am I alone- / Your Punishment, your longing / And your Goal. / -Anonymous Image copyright © 2009 Shanina Conway. / Copying and displaying or redistribution of this image without permission from the artist is strictly prohibited

  • Pastel on Colourfix sanded paper (burgundy) – 70cm x 50cm / (962 views – 6/12/09) There is a radio program in Australia called ‘Macca on a Sunday Morning’, which explores all aspects of this country. There is a segment in it called ‘Why I live where I live’, and it got me thinking about where I live. I did this painting as part of a solo exhibition (‘My Easel and Eye’) which was held in 2005 and this was the first painting that was sold. Yesterday morning was a glorious autumn morning, and I went for my early morning walk. This same area of the bush looked exactly like this painting! Recently I was asked where I get my inspiration from, and to be honest, I have no real answer to that. Sure, I could say the music I listen to, the stories and poems I read, but that doesn’t really explain why certain images and ideas come to me. Reality has never really done it for me, and I remember being a young child who wondered why life had to consist of only the normal, boring, everyday routine. Why did I have to live vicariously through films like “The Little Mermaid” and “Alice and Wonderland”? Why couldn’t I make this abstract longing for the surreal and the impossible come to life on my own terms? My dream has always been to give life to the ideas that come to me, to make them visible. Tangible. I live my dream every day. Stock Credits / Model / Background from ImageAfter.com / Stock copyrights remain the property of their respective owners.

  • started off with 2 images for this, one of my face and one of my hands covering the face. / I then opened both images in camera raw and applied the same settings to both photos. / Next i aligned the photo of my face with the one of my hands. / Then it was just a matter of masking and blending the images together. / This took a few attempts to get it to blend well, but I am happy with the end result. / total time was about 4 hours

  • A shot taken on my last bike trip on that wonderful misty morning of Sunday 27th September to the grounds of the country-house Groeneveld near Baarn. This is the same lane where I met the girl with the golden hair some moments later. Many of you will understand that this picture has got a completely new meaning for me in the last three days. I could have chosen a shot with light at the end of the tunnel. And I am pretty sure that there will be light at the end of my present tunnel. So many of you here on RB and also on devArt have written and confirmed that there is a good prospect for continuing my beloved photographic activities after the forthcoming operation. Ever so many thanks to them here too. Still this shot appeals more to me today. The feeling at the moment is one of going from the light to an uncertain future. But I shall venture into that mist. Indeed I am sure there is a lot of good to win by going on. Groeneveld, 27th September 2009, 9.23 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 62 mm / F 13, 1/30, ISO 200
