Destroyed or damaged from hurricane Wilma, this pier in Cancun Mexico was closed for the publics safety. As in my case, I took the liberty to get at least a couple of pictures of it at sunset while staying away from the hotel bar and lobby.
When I made this artwork I needed some spice in my life, some new adventures. “The wind is blowing, / The sea is moving more and more… / It is time for the pirates to reach the nearest coast.” Copyright © Sylvain6po.

Remnants of Hurricane Noel passing by Corolla, North Carolina. Fortunately there was no damage, and beach erosion was kept to a minimum. It was fun watching the Pelican’s fly between the crashing waves. Amazing how effortless they can fly, even with wind gusts up to 60mph. Extremely difficult shot, so many moving “parts” that it is hard to get the lens to focus (Sigma 50-500mm).
Neat shot of three Pelicans skillfully flying through the waves created by Hurricane Noel in Coralla, NC.

Water spout in the Florida Keys
‘The ground was cold and hard and the wind roared outside, it was deafening. I edged towards the entrance to the cave in the cliff-face. I just had to have a look outside as the Hurricane approached. The view from here took away my breath…...I could barely make out the sail on a yacht that was being helplessly tossed towards the rocks…...........” Another…....you guessed it…..macro photograph from an Australian Melaleuca tree.
Puerto Morelos, Mexico. March 2005 The Yucatan Penninsula was hit hard in October 2004 by Hurricane Wilma. The area is not immune to tropical rains, but Wilma was different. The storm moved slowly and the resulting rainfall was devasting. The effects were seen during our visit six months later. This photo was a natural. The boat, the sand, the beautiful blue sky and surrounding water, with the reminder of the storm being the pillar at the walkway down to the beach. A Composite / In the years immediately following World War Two it became traditional for a Spitfire and Hurricane to lead the Victory Day flypast over London . From that event there grew the idea to form an historic collection of flyable aircraft, initially to commemorate the RAF’s major battle honour, The Battle of Britain, and latterly with broadened scope, to commemorate the RAF’s involvement in all the campaigns of WWII. Thus in 1957 the Historic Aircraft Flight was formed at Biggin Hill in what, even then, had become a predominantly jet-powered Air Force. As can be seen from the following chronology, the Flight experienced variable fortune before emerging in its current form as one of the world’s best-known historic aircraft collections, maintaining in airworthy condition a Lancaster, a Dakota, 5 Spitfires with a 6 th on restoration, 2 Hurricanes and 2 Chipmunks.
This is my little angel statue which survived massive trees falling all around it during Hurricane Gustav. After the storm, when the tree surgeons came to remove the debris that was everywhere, I forgot to tell them that a little angel was under three of the many splintered trees in my yard and that the angel should be moved to safety before they downed the broken oaks. As the giants came crashing to the ground, I remembered and cringed. Now, she’s crushed, I knew. But I was wrong. After the piles of wood were moved away, there was the statue, still intact! It had made it through two calamities! Today, it is a symbol to me of survival, a symbol that miracles do happen. May miracles abound this Christmas and in the New Year. Blessings to all!
After Hurricane Gustav blew through Louisiana, this handsome rooster showed up at the office of an oil service company. He was very friendly and plucky, even climbing the steps to sit on the porch of the office building to chew the fat with the guys working their seven day shift. The men inquired but no one claimed the rooster, so he’s now a regular on the premises. One day, one of the crewman decided to tidy up around the place with a little lawn mowing and weed eating. Gus went berserk when he saw the weed eater and attacked it beak and claw! The blood went flying everywhere before the worker could pull the offensive instrument out of harm’s way. Thankfully, Gus mended just fine, with a few battle scars as souvenirs of his skirmish and newfound pride in that he had taken on the enemy and protected the home turf with grit and gutsiness. Gus, named after a hurricane, sometimes has a stormy temperament but he can mellow down and be good company with folks, too. Gus, you’re the best!
Lover’s Key is a small group of mangrove islands located in Lee County between Ft. Myers Beach, Fl, and Bonita Beach. It’s right on the Gulf of Mexico. The islands are collectively known as Lover’s Key State Park (formerly Carl E. Johnson Park). Inland backwaters full of fish, birds, and marine life, separate the islands from each other. Boats with motors are not allowed within the Park, but motorboats are allowed in the Gulf and Bay waters surrounding the Park, and there is a boat ramp within the park. This is to protect the abundant wildlife, which includes -manatees, dolphins, various herons and roseate spoonbills, ospreys, bald eagles, raccoons, rabbits, squirrels, snook, mullet, rays, and a large variety of shellfish. / the driftwood is part of the beauty of the remains from our famous Hurricane Charley sweeping in 2004 ( all of these from this series are straight as is from the camera) a real friend is someone who takes a winter vacation on a sun-drenched beach and does not send a card* —Farmer’s Almanac
soft pastel painting You Are Like a Hurricane by Neil Young Unplugged Version just because I LOVE that pump organ! And for fans of the electric version Once I thought I saw you / in a crowded hazy bar, / Dancing on the light / from star to star. / Far across the moonbeam / I know that’s who you are, / I saw your brown eyes / turning once to fire. You are like a hurricane / There’s calm in your eye. / And I’m gettin’ blown away / To somewhere safer / where the feeling stays. / I want to love you but / I’m getting blown away. I am just a dreamer, / but you are just a dream, / You could have been / anyone to me. / Before that moment / you touched my lips / That perfect feeling / when time just slips / Away between us / on our foggy trip. You are like a hurricane / There’s calm in your eye. / And I’m gettin’ blown away / To somewhere safer / where the feeling stays. / I want to love you but / I’m getting blown away. You are just a dreamer, / and I am just a dream. / You could have been / anyone to me.
In between storms today I made this. I fled the Jersey shore once in the mid-1980s during a hurricane….. drove through high water, yowling winds, and streets that were full of frogs to get free of the eye wall. When I finally made it home (85 miles away) I had nightmares for a couple of weeks. The place I had been staying didn’t look anything like this place, but the nightmare one did. And the nightmares were calm, no hurricane. Just Doom sitting on my chest, stopping my heart and blocking my view of the ocean. You know? Four photoimages combined.
Hurricane Bill is still making his presence known in Bermuda. I shot this today (22 Aug 09) at John Smith’s Bay on our South Shore. While the rest of the island faired well, the south shore has suffered quite a bit of beach erosion. FEATURED: / SEA – August 09
