The Huntress As the little huntress went deeper into the enchanted woods she wondered if her bird companion and herself were ever going to make it out alive, they were on the search for the most feared and powerful witch Qunal who was bringing death and destruction upon the elf village in the north region. The surroundings seemed like it was taking a life on its very own. She then noticed the trees were closing in, and in her mind she thought, if this was going to be her demise….(continued) Best viewed large THE HUNTRESS STORY In Search Of The Huntress The Confrontation The Finding The Stench of Death The Deadly Inferno The Conclusion / Thank you for viewing my work Image copyright © 2008, Larry Fridel. The Search Begins It has been almost 3 months since the elf huntress and her bird companion had started on the quest to find the evil witch Qunal, all feared at the elf villiage that she might have fallen onto something horrific that it is so hard to even imagine. The search party was formed and as they traveled thru the tunnel leading into the enchanted woods all hoped they would find her…..... alive. The second in the series. The Australian garden orb weaver spider, or Eriophora transmarina. These spiders make their intricate “wheel” shaped webs in the early evenings when the sun goes down. the often place them near lights, or between trees where insects are likely to fly. Resting in their web only at night, they sit head down. They retreat to a hiding spot in the daylight hours, with one leg on the web, in case a daytime flyer gets trapped. Facinating creatures, I spent alot of time watching, and feeding these in my backyard as a kid. Not dangerous spiders, only cause about 4 hours of localized pain if bitten. Shot in my backyard in Noosa Heads. Canon 50D, 800mm (400mm + 2x Tamron), flash fired to get the shutter speed required to dampen the moon brightness.. Available Large if you dare!! Hehe :)
24×32 acrylic on canvas. Fall of season series.

The tenderness in this little bluebird mama’s face as she watches at the doorway for hubby’s return with grub for their babies speaks to me of Mother Love, one of the most sublime forces on the planet. But her gentleness is only one facet of her nature. Not only does she nurture the little ones in the nest while waiting patiently for her mate, but she also emerges as a fierce huntress, going out into the world and bringing back to the nestlings grasshoppers, crickets, worms, and whatever sustenance she can find for her growing brood. Mother Love is tender but tough, gentle yet strong, hovering close to the “home fires” but speading her wings and facing the dangers of the outside world, too.
An exhibition piece from a collection that revolved around the themes of myth, magic, nature and storytelling.
The Finding / As the rag tag rescue group left the witch Qunal they wondered, this seems too easy, The hunt for the Elf Huntress was almost to an end, the witch said that she would be found about a mile North in the meadow, everyone in the group were thinking to themselves how the little Huntress would be sitting around a campfire eating some rabbit or quail her bird champion had caught, and how she would be so surprised to she her friends again. When the group reached the clearing of the meadow they noticed how lovely the sky and the Moon looked…the warrior heard someone scream, “In the name of the God’s that is all unholy,” They all stopped dead in their tracks, some dropped to their knees, as the Elf Warrior caught sight of what laid before them she raised her right arm to her mouth in disgust and horror ….she whispered oh so softly, “We found her.” (continued) / This is the fourth part of the Huntress Series. The Deadly Inferno After finding the body of the Huntress the search party was all consumed with grief, but lurking above them was the dark shadow of death and mayhem. The witch Qunal with her magic had transformed herself into her true form. As she swooped down upon the unexpected party she unleashed a deadly inferno of fire, but she didn’t go unnoticed, as the party went scouring for cover the spell barely missed its mark, the witch in a demonic boisterous voice proclaimed, “Your little friend thought she could out-wit me, but she and her bird were no match against my powers!” And with that she cast a spell that brought forth another inferno of fire five times more powerful than the last; at once two of the parties were pulverized. The elf warrior slashed at the witches belly a gush of blood splattered over the ground, the tiger ripped at the witches’ wings, and the bowman got off three rapid shots. But as was to no avail Qunal’s inferno was getting stronger, when a mighty thud filled the night air. The remaining members of the party didn’t see where it came from but heard the witch scream in pain. There before them was a mighty arrow, a hunter’s arrow imbedded into the black heart of the witch. Qunal tried to flap her wings but the pain was to great, as she collapsed dead her body desolved to dust. “What has happened?” the warrior screamed, but as she looked closer she noticed that the arrow was no ordinary hunter’s arrow, it had the mark of the Huntress, “How could that be?” wondered the warrior, “The Huntress is dead!” ……… (continued) Close-ups The Huntress Series the sixth in the series The Huntress In Search Of The Huntress The Confrontation The Finding The Stench of Death The Conclusion a 3D digital image Thank you for your support Image copyright © 2009, Larry Fridel. This started out as a photograph of a statue I have. I then used Photoshop to remove the background colors, followed by boosting the contrast, and then using threshold filter to turn it into a stark B&W image. It was then imported into a Font Glyph creator, and turned into a font. The reason for this was to be able to make the image large without blurring the outline. I then selected it to be a white font. /

Dinner at Mother Bluebird’s house often means spiders as the entree. Here she is at it again, dishing up the delicacies for a brand new batch of babies, her second clutch of the mating season. Round three starts sometime in June and culminates in July. Only then does she get a bit of a respite from the unceasing demands of peeping chicks.
Diana is a powerful Goddess of classical mythology. She is shown at daybreak hunting for deer in the ancient forest. She provides food and leather for herself and her tribe. As an accomplished archer she can protect and nourish. She knows how to get what ever she needs. Diana is an icon from the ancients that can empower us today.

The fabulous Miss Olive likes to pretend she’s B.A.D. She’s a great model.
This female Eastern bluebird stopped late in the afternoon for a much needed break from hunting and feeding babies to take a dip in the birdbath. She splashed happily after lingering for a while on the edge of the birdbath. She was facing the west as light filtered through the trees and rested on her lovely little form. I intensified the effect with light filters from PhotoShop.

Here is my mother, Elizabeth S. Searles…......”The Huntress”. LOL, never the twain shall meet! Can you see her diamond engagement ring on her left hand? Hunting in diamonds?......I guess Mom is starting a new trend! According to information on the back of the photo this was taken in 1950. This photo is most likely in Upper New York States. It also would have been taken by my father who loved photography in those days. He had about 5 cameras of different sorts and his own dark room in our basement. He worked only in Black and White. I cannot imagine how my Dad talked Mom into going hunting with him….....but I can assure you. “It was the first and last time”. She was more at home campling in the Hilton than in the woods. I’ll bet she never wore those boots again! I can vaguely remember her talking about this trip…...the cabin they stayed in and the “Unwashed Men” in the cabin next door. I just love this photo because it is so unllike my Mother. She would, of course, try to be a good sport about things, but she was just not “built this way”. While she would fish, killing a deer or bear would be impossible for her. She also detesting camping of any kind…....just too much dirt for my Mom. I guess, I am a mixture of Mom and Dad. While I could not kill anyting hunting, I enjoyed camping when I was young. But, now in my senior years, I camp at the Hilton too!
