Male Wild Turkey

This mask-wearer is member of the carnival guild “Waldhuser Waldmänner”. These “Waldmänner” are based on the wild men of various myths and fairy tales that were said to run around the untamed forests of Europe during the middle ages and earlier. They are spirits of nature always protective of their forests, sometimes malicious against humans, sometimes helpful or just pranksters – depending on the myth one looks at all these and more character traits can be found. The Celtic Wild Hunt and the Greek dryads are a distant relative to these “forest men”.

Another collaboration between myself and Mooseman – my husband thought that the Bull Turkeys should have moose heads, not just antlers. Ted has once again amazed me with his powers of transformation! : )

Whitetail deer hunters develop a one track mind during hunting season.
This shot was taken right around Thanksgiving like the other one showing “the better end”. Interesting the better end is the ass end of a turkey with all the beautiful feathers but he REALLY needs something to keep people from checking out the other end. Ghastly, people. Ghastly! This one is sans waTTle (that loose skin hanging above the neck and under the chin) but still has the neck that looks like someone skinned it just raw enough to heal nicely without a fatal infection. The hunting of these guys is legal about 1000 yards from the opposite direction this one is headed. Either this is a smart one, a young one, or one hella lucky one.
Another take on a very determined Reddish Egret on the hunt using his classic spread wings to shade the water in front of him so he can see the minnows… / /
I met this young fox in the summer of 2008. / If you would like to read the story and see more pics about this encounter please see it here!
The White Rhinoceros or Square-lipped rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) is one of the five species of rhinoceros that still exist. It has a wide mouth used for grazing and is the most social of all rhino species. The White Rhino is the most common of all rhinos. / The White Rhinoceros is the world’s largest land mammal after the elephants. / Its ears can move independently to pick up more sounds but it depends most of all on smell. The olfactory passages which are responsible for smell are larger than their entire brain. / White Rhinoceros are found in grassland and savannah habitat. Herbivore grazers that eat grass, preferring the shortest grains, the White Rhino is one of the largest pure grazers. Regularly it drinks twice a day if water is available, but if conditions get dry it can live four or five days without water. It spends about half of the day eating, one third resting, and the rest of the day doing various other things. White Rhinos, like all species of rhino, love wallowing in mudholes to cool down.
