Hi All, / As you all know Japan are out hunting whales again (apparently for research, however they do not deny the whales end up on dinner plates after the so called research) and this year have gone even further stating they will be hunting humpbacks and the beloved Migaloo (the only pure white whale in the world). Enough is enough please go to the link and sign the petition … it takes 2 seconds. Also please forward to everyone you know!! www.whalesrevenge.com is trying to get a million people to sign a petition to stop whaling. Thank you

Have you ever pondered how much time it takes to create your very own masterpiece these days? Now granted I am referring to digital photography, in which we can conceivably create a stunning image in all of twenty minutes, perhaps. Within the last two years I really became interested in digital photography and learned about HDR (High Dynamic Range). HDR is a process, by which the photographer will take a sequence of multiple bracketed images at different exposure settings and then merge them all into one image, using a third-party tool such as Photomatix, for instance. / After viewing the results of this process, I became hooked instantly. Later in 2007 I had the opportunity to travel to the wonderful city of Prague and due to fantastic overcast skies tried my HDR process again, with rather pleasing result. / Both of these images were taken from Charles Bridge, which in itself is a fantastic place to visit. If you look really carefully, you can see the “ghost-like” figures near the water’s edge. With multiple exposures, these folks obviously walked through the frames as I took them. I finally also decided to re-visit a place close to my favorite vacation spot in Corolla, NC and ran it through the HDR process, with some fantastic results. This is an image of the Whalehead Hunt Club in Currituck, NC. Currituck Lighthouse is also visible in this image. Even closer to home yet, while visiting a friends home, I decided to try the HDR process yet again on this beautiful Steinway Piano. Again the results appealed to me a great deal. Thank you for looking at my short photo essay, hope you enjoyed looking at my images.

Bet you thought I’d taken some time off! Hah!! Time off, vacations – don’t know what those are.. Holidays? What’re those?? / I started this a while back (March 31st, for sure) and have been trying to get it done in between other things.. / Day One Session: just some light watercolor washes. Time spent: 1.33 hours with this result: / Day Two Session: more washes but this time adding some of the darker tones. This helps me to place colors where they are supposed to be as opposed to where I think they are. Time spent: 1.10 hours. / / Day Two a little later on: some touch up washes for only 28 minutes. But, it did change the appearance a bit. / Day Three Session: seems I’m getting a little more serious now, doesn’t it. The colored pencil is coming on. Time spent: 2.46 and it’s making quite a difference. / / Day Three once again: I think this would be a good place to tell you what I’m using. Faber-Castell: burnt yellow ochre, sienna brown, brown ochre, yellow ochre and nougat – for now. / / And the Prismacolor: All the warm greys, all the french greys, espresso, sandbar brown, slate blue, black, white, sage green, green ochre, seashell pink, cream, sand, cloud blue, clay rose, rosy beige, ginger root and sienna brown. Before I go any farther, let me share some close ups with you.. / / I don’t know if you can see any of the subtle differences, but I hope you can. Day Four Session: A lot more pencil work but also some changes in the background (I thought it was way to green for the areas that these dogs normally live in). Time spent: 1.19 hours.. and I’m beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, let’s hope it’s NOT an oncoming train (my life is full of those!). / Had a few things to take care of and couldn’t get back to this right away.. forgive me? / At any rate, day 5 session: there are have been some washes done and more pencil work.. but now the foreground animal is beginning to take shape. I’m pretty much finished with the large head but the area where the two dogs meet will have to be tweeked a little more. I think the hardest part of this is going to be to put the grasses in that he/she’s lying on!! Then again, I could be wrong. This session lasted 1.33 hours. / / A little while later (after dinner) I came back to it to start the grass and touch up anything that didn’t look right. Only spent about .55 minutes working on it though. / / And then this morning (June 13) I decided that it was time to put the grass in and make this done.. so I started playing with different colors – lights, darks and medium tones (all watercolor). After all the grass was pretty much done.. I started putting in the highlights and voila! Done.. session lasted .56 minutes. / / I really hope you have enjoyed this one.. it had it’s own brand of challenges (like all that dark fur) and each piece is such a wonderful journey that I almost hate to put my signature on them.. but I did!!

Made it back in one piece from Mexico last Friday night. More stories and many more photos to come as soon as I feel like being a computer nerd again. Almost crashed just a couple hours from home though. Put the last of my fuel treatment in my motorcycle tank but forgot to zip the side bag back up. Got up to highway speed and the bike started bucking and I almost went down. When I pulled over I saw that a long sleeve shirt had blown out of my side bag and got caught up in the sprocket and chain. Scared the bejesus outta me, but it could have gone much worse. And… get this… it happened in Shertz, Texas. Exactly one week ago today (Wednesday) I was in the middle of the Mexican desert… dancing with Mescalito… and in the middle of a 3hr task of making a giant 15ft peace sign on the desert floor out of about 5lb stones. In a place where few will ever see it. I worked in stone because that’s the “medium” I had handy. I didn’t make it for an art show, or as an installation for anyone to view. I created something that was an international symbol that crosses language barriers… and the idea of which weighed heavy on my mind. Click to View PEACE

  • The Hunt for Miss October - a ripsnorter of a competition!

Do you have a terrific sense of humour? Do you have a cheeky streak a mile wide? Are you sassiness personified? Are you (or a willing victim of your choice) willing to get your gear off for a good cause? If you answered yes to the above then boy howdy! Do we have a competition for you! The Dynamic Duo of Rose Moxon and Mel Brackstone have joined forces to create the must have calendar of 2009, with proceeds going to The Fred Hollows Foundation. Coming soon, Voyeur ‘09 will star some very special Redbubble members strutting their stuff in front of the camera for a change, and strutting it like it’s never been strutted before! This is also a total collaboration fest with many of our world class photographers teaming up with members of Redbubble creating some sexy, sassy images and having a whole lotta fun while they are at it. Of course, we are not at liberty to divulge their identities just yet, nor can we discuss the themes for each month, HOWEVER… just between you, me and the bedpost I have heard rumours there may be tractors, feathers, rockets and naughty Santa’s OH MY! And just to make things a little more interesting, we are giving YOU dear reader, the chance to be a part of this exciting project. Do you think you have what it takes to rock it out as Miss October? Here’s the outline of what we are after. Miss October must be a member of Redbubble. Miss October must be a Miss, however we are open to a Mister dressing up as a Miss ;) A Halloween themed creation is highly desirable The subject of your image must be a real person in photographic form. No 3d renders please. We are after something cheeky, sassy, sexy with a whole lot of naked flesh on show. But please, keep it tasteful. We are not after a Debbie Does Dallas… more a Debbie-Gets-Creative-and-Sexy-But-Doesn’t-Show-Her-Boobs-Or-Pink-Bits type of thing. For example: Miss October naked in a pumpkin patch with strategically placed vine leaves and two equally strategically placed pumpkins =) So if you are up for the challenge, get creating! Collaborations between photographers and models are encouraged but both must be Redbubble members. This competition starts NOW and will close on the 22nd of August. Tag your entries voyeur09. This is really important!!! Your judges will be Rose Moxon, Mel Brackstone and Rhana Griffin (the Dynamic Duo’s admin chick) The judges decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

This will likely sound pretentious…. but I only mean it as an honest and personal matter-of-fact statement….. I always have this feeling that most people don’t yet realize how magnificent my images are… yet. I KNOW as a body of work thus far…. my work is impressive. I went to the bookstore this evening because I’m reading Edward Weston’s “Daybooks”. I wanted to see more of his work so I went to the photography section and started looking through most of the works of any photographer I recognized the name. I don’t generally look through other’s work because I don’t want my vision unintentionally corrupted by other work and thus subject to be derivative. Seriously, I felt that MY work as a whole is better than anyone else I could find. Sure, there were those who really excelled at one type of photography… like Ansel Adam’s landscapes… or Anton Cobijn’s portraits…. or Man Ray’s experimental work and nudes… etc. but as a whole, I think my own work eclipses all of them in variety and mastery. It’s just very few people have come to realize that. Does that sound arrogant? Or… deluded?

Now I am not a very political soul, as most of you know, but when I saw this info it made me so very angry and I thought it would be good to share since it is getting close to the time for those voting booths to open…..I will not be voting this year there are only two choices and I cant stand either one….Here is some info from the Defenders of Wildlife~ Governor Sarah Palin, the Republican nominee for Vice President, promotes the practice of Aerial Wolf Hunting, exploiting a loophole in the Federal Airborne Hunting Act to allow private wolf killers to shoot down wolves using aircraft. To encourage the killing, she even proposed a $150 bounty for the left foreleg of each dead wolf! We have to get the word out about this! Please watch this powerful new television ad by Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund, and then share it with every wildlife lover you know: http://actionfund.defenders.org/palintvwolf Please find it in your heart to spread the word, too many of our precious animals are in danger of becoming extinct, with some one in a position of power who has no concern for our wild life, it will only make the problems endangered animals are face worse and we can not afford to let that happen. / In Light and Love to All of you, may Peace be in our future, / Leah

Been in Guatemala for about 10 days. Very surreal scenario that took me there. And many surreal experiences while shooting as well. However, one of the most surprising and scary experiences happened while waiting for a return flight in the Ft. Lauderdale airport… they were playing that clip of McCain taking the mic away from that lady who said Obama was an Arab..etc. (does anyone think those were setup plants to give McCain the opportunity to look level-headed and not so divisive?). Anyway, this older dude came up to my business partner who’s about 15 years older than me… and I guess he assumed my partner was a republican (he’s not). He leaned over and said “I really HATED it when McCain did that..” I jumped in and asked “did what?”... he said he hated that McCain had said nice things about Obama. I asked why that bothered him and he said Obama has never had a job in his life and he couldn’t vote for him. I told him none of these yahoos have likely ever had real jobs. I’m certain Bush and Cheney never had real jobs either. So I asked him what was REALLY bothering him about Obama. He then started parroting sound bites from FOX news and talking about the “terrorist palling around… ACORN.. etc.” I told him he’s watching too much FOX news and that he should dig a little deeper for information before he starts spouting off sound bites. Asked him to come clean and tell me why he REALLY didn’t like Obama. At this point there was a small crowd around us getting into their own arguments, but a surprising amount of people who supported this idiot. He then said he simply couldn’t vote for a “black” and that he resented that if Obama doesn’t get elected the “blacks” will all riot. AND get this… he was yelling at this point and said that if there were a fund being collected to have Obama assassinated… he’d be first in line to contribute. This wasn’t just one sour old man… there seemed to be a fair amount of others in the group (granted all older, affluent, and white) who agreed with him. Very scary. I figured they were all retired Floridian repiglicans… but they were all going to Ohio. Not sure if they lived in Fla. and were traveling to Ohio.. or the other way around. I was very surprised at what I heard and how they didn’t seem to hide their racism at all. They were yelling this crap outloud in an airport terminal with about a third of the other passengers being African American. Was surprised that none of the other passengers of color jumped into the fray. They mostly just looked a little scared. Really got me thinking about ol’ Karl Rove…. the whether or not there really is a Biblical “beast”...... “turning Man against his brother, ‘til Man exists no more.”
