A Black-chinned hummingbird nectar feeding in Patagonia, Arizona. Perhaps one of the world’s finest places to visit and witness spectacular bird migration, one can see up to 13 different species of hummingbird there alone during the peak of bird migration annually. /
Shot on a rainy and terribly overcast day, this hummer sat perched on a barrel cactus in Arizona. I still liked his colors. Thanks for looking. / Other hummingbird shots: / / /

This shot recently recieved 2nd place, out of nearly 3000 entries in a February ‘08 contest on another photosite. So now we can reveal how we did it. This is actually three separate shots of the same female Calytpe Anna hummingbird in three different positions as she hovered to approach and land on the feeder. I layered each shot over each other, aligned the feeder, masked & blended each layer to expose each bird and merged them all into one image to give the appearance of three separate hummingbirds lined up at the feeder. Work done with Corel PSP-XI

Ivan is rapidly growing up, now has at least 4 red feathers on his throat. He will become a very handsome young man, and certainly heir to the throne.

I got this great shot when this curious Hummingbird, came right up to my face to check me out.
930 views as of Nov. 13, 2009 Featured in The Birds – Feb. 15, 2009 / I can almost feel it. Spring is JUST around the corner. It’s such an exciting time in Canada after a long and cold winter. The lilac trees bloom putting forth the sweetest scent and the hummingbirds return to our property after a long migration. Yes, Spring will be here before we know it. I can’t wait! I spent countless HOURS last summer, sitting in a lawn chair, ever so patiently waiting to try & capture one of these little darlings in flight. They are only 7-9 cm long. While hovering their wings beat 55x/s, 61x/s when moving backwards, and at least 75x/s when moving forward! / / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / Processing info: / This image started out with 3 photograph layers (the lilac background image, a female ruby-throated hummingbird, and the tail from a different photo of the same bird). I took all of the original images with my Canon DSLR. After removing the background around the original bird photos I merged all of the layers in PhotoShop. I digitally painted/blended the entire image in Corel Painter X using the Impasto Depth Smear brush at 30% opacity. I cloned out a distracting branch in the upper left corner and performed blend # 2 work on the main lilac blooms, hummingbird, and the largest leaves using grainy blender 10 brush at 38% opacity. / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / Bird Gallery / ADD RENEE TO YOUR WATCHLIST

Female Calypte Anna hummingbird. / Salem, Oregon / / Image taken from within our backyard.
Female Rufous Hummingbirds have returned with their babies to guzzle at the feeders after a quiet month of nesting… / Usually there are about 12 at each of my three feeders (which I fill at least twice daily).. / I got a kick out of how these little ladies lined up so politely.

Archilochus colubris / 3 3/4 inch ( 10 cm ) This is the only hummingbird we have in Ontario. Immatures resemble the adult female. The males have the bright throat and also migrate earlier than the females and the young. Most winter in the tropics. Their voice is a soft tew with varied chattering notes. / Image taken in Carryling Place, ON at my daughter’s Renee Dawson Aug 19/09 / Top 10 Birds In Flight Challenge (3rd Place), High Quality Animal Images Nov 14/09 / /
This work was inspired by my dear grandmother who passed away in 1990. She was my mentor in all things when I was growing up. Her love of birds and gardening are two of many things that influences me in my art works and in my writing. This art work has been FEATURED in the “Animal Fantasy & Whimsy” group!

Focal Length 300 / BEST VIEWED LARGE. I have done a lot of shooting this year, Wish I had my new camera for most of the shots I have done. This one is my absolute favorite that I did this year. I entered it into a competition, and it won, so now it is time to share it with all of you. I do hope you get as excited as I did. I did work on it in PS a little, I thought it blurred some, not as sharp as I would like, and I had to take some noise out. I cropped it just a little, and saturated the color. Thats about it.
have seen this in my dreams last night
