BEST VIEWED LARGER Coast Redwoods in Humboldt Redwoods State Forest: / “I feel most emphatically that we should NOT turn a tree which was old when the first Egyptian conqueror penetrated the valley of the Euphrates .. into shingles.” / - President Theodore Roosevelt / The Coast Redwood (another Sequoia, a genus in the cypress family) is found along the northern Californian and southern Oregon coast and can reach over 300 feet tall and over 20 feet across, and be over 4,000 years old. The trees, also known as California Redwood, pass through three climate zones from ground level to canopy level. The challenge: Find the human figure. ( Hint: Towards the center, above the ‘log’. Click ‘view larger’ if necessary.) The carved graffiti on the tree trunk in the foreground represents some sad homosapien attempts to gain the same respect the trees already demand. ‘We were here’ ... but not for long. The underlying law of Creation is RHYTHMIC BALANCED INTERCHANGE in all transactions in Nature. It is the one principle upon which the continuity of the universe depends. Likewise, it is the one principle upon which the continuity of man’s transactions, his health and happiness depend. It is the manifestation of God’s two opposing desires in all processes of creation….Balance is the principle of unity, of oneness. In it is the stability, which lies in CAUSE. Balance is the foundation of the universe…..by Walter Russell / Please View In Large format! / ___ / All The Materials Contained May Not Be Reproduced, Copied, Edited, Published, Transmitted Or Uploaded In Any Way Without My Permission. The T Shirt Revolution group is having a textless seven deadly sins tee shirt challege at the moment and this is my entry. I’ve been sitting here thinking it always seems to be the seven deadly sins that get all the press and how the seven contrary virtues never seem to get an outing….. so this entry contains all the sins and all the virtues in one hit. This is the whole package…. all light and all darkness flow from here…... mix lust, gluttony, avarice, sloth, anger, envy and pride in with humility, kindness, abstinence, chastity, patience, liberality and diligence … it’s a combination that sounds like it would mix up a bit like a sack full of kittens …..... and it comes out as …...sunday bloody sunday….....it’s what we long for and what we loathe all at the same time…....
This cloud appeared on the horizon in California, weeks before our entire world as we knew it would drastically change. The original was very grainy, so I played with Fractilius to enhance it. Writing down the bones of tools to discover / how it was, we’d overcome and actually recover; Trilogy of catharsis and recording of a path / this cloud would prove the test of wrath; Destruction, construction, death and dis-ease / was beside our sanctuary, no peace to please; Katrina would lead us to a home found up north, / while California’s market went south and so forth; A new year upon us, no hope yet in sight / months of attempts to gain in the fight; Finally, a light in the darkness showed us the way / to gather our strength, gamble and so dearly pay; To walk the talk spoken, not compromise beliefs / we made it to a new sanctuary, a sign of relief; Sacrifice, challenges and heartfelt memories’ loss / of a home for three decades, now an albatross; Circumstances beyond control or receipt, / have taught us this change was a war on deceit; No winners or losers in this game of chance, / our souls our in tact though in mindful dance; Grateful are we who heeded the warning / whilst material gain is all we are mourning; Blessed with love, surrounded by beauty / life’s test to share light in the dark, now duty. / / nurture / The act of nourishing or nursing; tender care; education; training; That which nourishes; food; diet; The environmental influences that contribute to the development of an individual; see also nature; to nourish or nurse / en.wiktionary.org/wiki/nurture Media – pencil and photoshop / Substrate – paper I can’t explain this, ‘cept to say, it’s inspired by our connection with nature and the fragility of life itself sometimes, the message coming through is to nurture life by way of fostering goodwill toward one another and accepting we have a duty of care to our natural world also. Because Easter is approaching I thought it appropriate :) The child’s sustenance, or umbilical cord if you like is coming from a tree, symbolic of the healing that nature can bring….the new life and growth that comes with nurture both of spirit and of nature. Humility is understanding our rightful place in the scheme of all things, including nature, family structure and the wider community…... a world where there is tolerance for all, is the one i pray for
The Hibiscus in B&W, humble yet beautiful devoid of color….
Roses and colours / Here’s a brief mention about the significance of rose colours and combinations: •Red: An expression of love; a symbol of courage and respect / •Pink: Admiration; a new love that has yet to bloom, appreciation, motherly love / •White: Innocence, purity, secrecy, marriage, loyalty, reverence and humility / •Yellow: Joy and deep friendship or platonic love. It could also denote jealousy, infidelity, a dying love and farewell. / •Blue: Mystery, the impossible and the unattainable / •Purple: Love at first sight, enchantment and all things magical History and Meaning of White Roses here / Primary Significance: Purity, Innocence, Sympathy, Spirituality With its pristine appearance, the white rose has come to symbolize purity, innocence and secrecy. There are myths and legends from several different cultures relating to the origin of the first rose which is initially white in color and is then miraculously transformed. Oftentimes the pure white rose was depicted as being stained by blood, or made to blush from a kiss. The recurrence of this theme does a great deal to establish the white rose as a symbol for purity. Early traditions also used white roses as a symbol for true love, an association which would later become the hallmark of the red rose. However, white roses continue to endure and retain their symbolism of innocence. White roses are now used to express a number of different sentiments. Also known as the bridal rose, the white rose is a traditional wedding flower. In this sense, they are a representation of unity, virtue, and the pureness of a new bond of love. White roses are also a symbol for young love, which further strengthens the association, and makes them ideal for marriages. Bridal bouquets are often comprised of white roses and other white flowers. White roses are also associated with honor and reverence, which makes them a fitting memorial for a departed loved one. Funeral and sympathy arrangements traditionally incorporate white roses as a part of the tribute. As a symbol of remembrance, the white rose represents heavenliness and is an expression of spiritual love and respect. While most of the long-established meanings of white roses are still quite commonly used today, others have become less prevalent. White rosebuds, for example, are a traditional symbol for girlhood and carry an underlying message of one too young for love. While perhaps no longer falling into the realm of common knowledge, this is still very much a part of the language of roses. White roses can mean many things to many different people. They can symbolize new beginnings, or be a sign of farewell. They can convey feelings of love, friendship, respect and hope. Underlying all of these messages is the impression of innocence and purity with which white roses are now synonymous. An arrangement of white roses is not only beautiful; it can carry a complexity that belies its simpler appearance. Whatever the reason white roses are given, it can be assured that they will be deeply appreciated by their recipient. For more information on roses scroll to the bottom of the page! Courtesy Wikipedia here / A rose is a perennial flower shrub or vine of the genus Rosa, within the family Rosaceae, that contains over 100 species and comes in a variety of colors. The species form a group of erect shrubs, and climbing or trailing plants, with stems that are often armed with sharp prickles. It is a common error to refer to roses having thorns. Thorns are modified branches or stems, whereas these sharp protrusions on a rose are modified epidermal tissues (prickles). Most are native to Asia, with smaller numbers of species native to Europe, North America, and northwest Africa. Natives, cultivars and hybrids are all widely grown for their beauty and fragrance. The leaves are alternate and pinnately compound, with sharply toothed oval-shaped leaflets. The plant’s fleshy edible fruit is called a rose hip. Rose plants range in size from puny, miniature roses, to climbers that can reach 20 meters in height. Species from different parts of the world easily hybridize, which has given rise to the many types of garden roses. The name originates from Latin rosa, borrowed from Oscan from colonial Greek in southern Italy: rhodon (Aeolic form: wrodon), from Aramaic wurrdā, from Assyrian wurtinnu, from Old Iranian *warda (cf. Armenian vard, Avestan warda, Sogdian ward, Also the Hebrew ורד = vered and the Aramaic ורדא: these preceded the Greek above. Parthian wâr). Attar of rose is the steam-extracted essential oil from rose flowers that has been used in perfumes for centuries. Rose water, made from the rose oil, is widely used in Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine. The French are known for their rose syrup, most commonly made from an extract of rose petals. In the United States, this French rose syrup is used to make rose scones. Rose hips are occasionally made into jam, jelly, and marmalade, or are brewed for tea, primarily for their high Vitamin C content. They are also pressed and filtered to make rose hip syrup. Rose hips are also used to produce Rose hip seed oil, which is used in skin products and some makeup products.
I see my Artist – His Beauty lives with us….. ========================= “We come nearest to the great when we are great in humility.” / ~Rabindranath Tagore
I stopped a moment inside the chapel at Quinta da Regaleira…a quick prayer, simple…to the point. God, can You hear me? / You are everywhere, / So I know You’re in this room… / I want to ask You something. / To me, it’s pretty big, / And You? Well, if you know my soul, / It’s big to you too. / I want to pray for my friends, Lord. / One after another, I can see their faces, / Some, I’ve seen, others, just converse through the internet. / I know all of them would like to be blessed, / So that’s what I asking for. / Daily breath, health, peace, comfort / Freedom from fear, / Success is a big one… / You know what, God? / I think the biggest thing… / Is that I’d like my friends happy. / Yeah, that’s my wish….my prayer. / Please, Lord…. / Amen…..
Experiment of sorts, for me…feeling deeply humble today, tiny in this Universe and not minding that at all, trying to understand the feeling of love that flows from that; wanted to try to get that feeling out and take a look at it. Fractal, photoimage….edited and painted. /
Apo 3D rendered…
This gleeful image of Buddha has always been an inspiration to me. Makes me smile and laugh. / Experimented with Photo-Shop to warm him up.
