  • The Icelandic Harvester. / / When I came across this old vessel moored to the pier my imagination started running wild with scenarios of what life aboard this wooden vessel would have been like. I could almost feel the sineous texture of the ropes as they hung there coated in the ice cold saltwater of the frigid North Atlantic Ocean. I could nearly hear the calls of the sailors as they shouted commands back and forth across her weather beaten decks as the waves crashed down upon her on any one of her numerous voyages. What sights must have been seen as sailors of old lined the rails to peer down at the mysteries of the sea. How many men were lost at sea and how many made it home with wild stories of his adventure aboard the Icelandic Harvester. / / Shot with a Canon 400D and processed in Lightroom 2. / / NautilusBlue / / nominated this image to be showcased in the group Pay It Forward and this is what she had to say… / / Ice Breaker / by Kevin Kroeker / I think it is an outstanding image with great composition ( great leading lines) with lots of drama and the colours are amazing . It shows us the harshness of the climate. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography /

Birds-eye view: the building “flows with the contours of the land like a massive natural outcropping of stratified, native rock Within this great continent, wherein lies this expansive and diverse nation, I could sense the feeling of time, the rhythm of time and the way nature had shaped and formed the land – that the formations had been carved by the elements and forces of nature, by wind, rain, the movement of water, the warmth of day, the coolness of night, the seasons. I felt that the building itself should express the evolution of the natural formations.”

  • This ACEO / miniature art (2.5×3.5 inches) was completed in coloured pencil on drafting film. • Beverley Minster, East Yorkshire, UK. Beverley Minster, in Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire is a parish church in the Church of England. It is generally regarded as the most impressive (architecturally speaking) church in England that is not a cathedral. / Originally a collegiate church, it was not selected as a bishop’s seat during the Dissolution of the Monasteries; nevertheless it survived as a parish church, and the chapter house was the only major part of the building to be lost. It is part of the Greater Churches Group and a Grade 1 Listed building. / The Minster owes its origin and much of its subsequent importance to St John of Beverley, who founded a monastery locally around 700 AD and whose bones still lie beneath a plaque in the nave. The institution grew after his death and underwent several rebuildings. After a serious fire in 1188, the subsequent reconstruction was overambitious; the newly heightened central tower collapsed c. 1213 bringing down much of the surrounding church. Work on the present structure began around 1220. ~ Wikipedia Samsung GX20, Tamron 24-105mm lens @ f22.

  • ACEO / miniature art of a beautiful Tabby called Neska, with amber eyes, done with coloured pencils and ink on drafting film. Neska’s eyes are actually green in colour but I wanted to add to my series of artwork featuring cat’s eyes ( Emerald Eyes, Sapphire Eyes and Turquoise Eyes). There is such diversity in the colours that cat’s eyes come in and I never tire of admiring the beauty of their eyes. • A photo of the beautiful Humber Bridge on a very misty morning. I was very lucky to get the aircraft vapour trail just in shot before it went too far.

  • Quite apart from the rare pink-orange hue of the Yarra River’s surface, what I really wanted to depict here was the wonder of how geometrical aspects crop up in scenes from everyday life. Apart from the symmetry of the slender, dark oars and the diagonal motion of the vessel away from me, I was struck by the repetitive pattern of the bow wave that is echoed all the way across the hull. And an interesting counterpoint to the many straight lines and acute angles is provided by the pattern of concentric circles on the left of the frame. This shot was taken just before dawn in early July this year, when the river took on an interesting coppery hue as it reflected the winter clouds high above. I was walking across Princes Bridge when I looked down and saw this crew rowing towards the Melbourne Cricket Ground. I shot two frames, unsure of whether my reactions would actually be quick enough to capture the concentric pools of water left by the passage of each oar. The thing I really like about this low-light, quick-motion shot is that you can still see the swirls and eddies left by the previous dip of the oars into the water. Fast swirls. And also, er, fast eddies. I do not crop, enhance or pst-edit my work in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F5.6, 1/60 sec, ISO 800, focal length 125mm.
