    WOW… so far we’ve had 129 favouritings and 1,404 views in the first month of uploading this journal and the other journal i’ve had lots of interest in this topic, so happy it’s what you’re looking for, and hope it helps lots :) Hi Everyone This would be the most FAQ I receive from other bubblers, ie, how do i enhance my profile, how do I create a link, how do I display my products on the page…. It’s so easy, very simple, just a few steps away – anyone can do it, you can do it!! Be encouraged! As I receive lots of requests for assistance about enhancing the front profile page of your red bubble homepage, I have decided to take some time to describe and explain in a step by step tutorial the various methods. / a) I always begin by opening up two tabs/windows / b) Open the ‘edit your profile page’ or the ‘edit your description’ box in the first tab/window / c) In the first window where you are editing your description, type an exclamation mark ! / d) Click to open the other tab/window / e) Go to the public view of the image whose product you wish to display / f) Click on the BUY/PREVIEW NOW button / g) You will notice there are a range of products here for you to choose from eg, card preview, print preview, laminated print preview, matted print preview / h) Click one of these options to view the product / i) Once you have chosen which product you’d like to add as a preview, right click on it and select ‘copy image location’ / j) Return to your first opened tab/window and paste the ‘copied image location’ right beside the exclamation mark / k) Add another exclamation mark after the pasted image location, leaving no spaces / YOU NOW HAVE DISPLAYED YOUR PRODUCT You can go on to make this a clickable link if desired. / l) Add a colon right next to the exclamation mark / m) Click on the second tab/window and press the back button at the top left hand side of your browser twice until it returns to the public view of your image / n) click in the url website address box at the top of your computer to highlight it / o) right click to copy the address / p) return to your first open tab/window and paste the copied url address beside the colon / YOU NOW HAVE A CLICKABLE LINK to the page from your product preview display This is very similar to how you would display a tshirt, but the tees are a littler easier, you do not need to go to the BUY/PREVIEW as you can copy the image location of your tshirt for display just by going to the main page where your image is located… bypassing that step, the rest is pretty much the same. for example below is a clickable text link / Click here to see my Calendars when you create the link it should end up looking something like this / a) I always begin by opening up two tabs/windows / b) Open the ‘edit your profile page’ or the ‘edit your description’ box in the first tab/window / c) Type one set of inverted commas / d) Type in the text, eg, “link to my website” , or “click here” / e) Type another set of inverted commas at the end of your text / f) Type a colon : / g)Click on the second tab/window and go to the website you want your text linked to / h) Right click in the url box at the top of the screen to highlight the url/website address or another page on red bubble where you are linking your text to a work of art etc / i) Paste the address right beside the colon / j) there should be no spaces whatsover / k) Click on the button to Save your changes / l) Go to preview and check the link has worked and is clickable / m) If not – recheck that you haven’t left any spaces, etc for example below is a clickable image link / It should look something like this / a) as above / b) as above / c) Type in an exclamation mark ! / d) Click on the second tab/window and go to the image you wish to add and make clickable / e) Because most images on RB are now protected with clear gifs, you cannot just copy the image itself, you will need to click on the preview/buy button to view the products, such as cards and prints, unless it’s a tshirt…which you can copy… once you’ve chosen product you wish to display….. / e) Right click on the image and choose the ‘copy image location’ option an click on it / f) Return to the first open tab in the editing box / g) Paste the image location right beside the exclamation mark / h) Type another exclamation mark, directly after the image location / i) Type a colon / j) Click on the second tab/window and go to the url address of the page your image is on / k) Click on the address to highlight it / l) Right click to copy the address / m) Return to your first tab/window and paste the url address beside the colon / n) Click to save your changes / o) Click to preview / p) You should have a clickable image link / q) If not, return to your editing and check you have left no spaces anywhere here’s an example of a clickable thumbnail / Here’s what it should like like to you / a) as above (open the edit your profile box in my bubble) / b) as above (open it up at my bubble and go to Art) / c) return to the edit your profile box / d) insert an exclamation mark / e) Click on the second tab/window / f) Locate the small thumbnail you wish to display in your profile / g) Right click on the small thumnail and click on copy image location / h) Click on first tab and paste the image location right beside the exclamation mark / i) Insert an exclamation mark directly after the url / j) Insert a colon directly after the exclamation mark / k) Click on your second tab/window / l) Go to the thumbnail and click on the thumbnail / m) Go to the url/website address of your image and click in the url box to highlight url address / n) Left click to copy the address / o) Return to your first tab/window (edit your profile) and past the url address directly beside the colon leaving no spaces whatsoever / p) Save your changes / q) Go to view publick view of your work / r) You should now have a clickable thumbnail / s) If not go back to edit your profile and check you’ve left no spaces and recheck your steps PS – if you wish to add a whole heap of thumbnails repeat the process, leaving one space between each thumbnail Here’s an example of a Banner / Here’s an example of what it would look like to you / I have added some nice banners to the front of my Profile Page, and folks often ask how this is done. If you have software like Photoshop and are family with it, then it should be fairly easy. I create a banner in Photoshop, using a simple rectangle shape, keeping it rather small in size …. approx 500×70 pixels (or 6×9 cm) something like that should fit fairly well in the space. I then save my file. I opened a Photobucket account especially so that I could create banners and save them to Photobucket (a free online Photo storage facility). Photobucket is very easy to use, simple and self explanatory. Once you have opened your account there you can upload your banners from your Photoshop saved files. Once you have saved your banners there, you can click on the Direct Link button beneath your thumbnail, to automatically copy the image location address. To make your banners appear in the ‘Edit your Profile’ area, or in your Description Boxes, you only need to do the following: a) as above / b) as above / c) In the edit your profile or description box, insert an exclamation mark / d) click on the second tab where you will have your Photobucket opened up / e) click on the Direct Link in Photobucket to copy the address of the banner you’ve created / f) Go to your first tab/window and paste the Direct Link image address directly beside the exclamation mark / g) Type in another exclamation mark directly after the Direct Link address / h) SAVE your changes / i) Go to View public profile / j) You should now have a beautiful new banner visible on your page / k) if not, recheck your steps and make sure you’ve left no spaces You can make your banner clickable by additionally adding a colon after the exclamation mark, and adding the url of the page you wish to link the banner to. / See example below: / / or / click here to view my tshirts In order to do this you must tag all similar works with a word, by going to edit your art work, and adding the tag to your other tags and saving your work, once you have adding the appropriate word to each of your works, to categories them… you can begin making sets to take customers to sets of your work… you can use a banner or text or an image link to do so for the first part… sandwiching the text/image/banner between two exclamation marks as we have done above.     I thought I would do a separate and hopefully less complicated How To in regards to making links and showing Jpg files in RB. There seems to be a lot of confusion as to how these things work. So find the part you are interested in learning, maybe open up and edit an old Journal Entry and practice. VBS A URL is simply the text that shows up in your Browser Window Address Bar (up the very top), the line that starts with http:// If I refer to the URL, that is what I am talking about. ALL CODE IS WRITTEN WITHOUT SPACES Some wrapping of longer lines of code will occur within this Journal Entry, regardless of what the lines look like, code is always one continuous line WITHOUT spaces TEXT LINKS Sometimes it’s nice to have a text link when we are conversing to others in Red Bubble to help people share information, or to allow them to see another web page that has something to do with the convo. Maybe you like to include songs from YouTube with your work and want to share those Videos and music with others. Anytime you want someone to be able to link to another webpage somewhere, you can make a line of text (or one word) clickable to that link and it’s really easy to do. :) All you do is wrap the text you want people to see as a link, in qoutes {“} then add a colon {:} and then the URL. So let’s say you wanted to link to my Porfolio so people can have a look at buying something off me HEHEHE ... all you need to do is open up my portfolio page in your browser to get the URL from your browsers address bar and just type the name of the link text wrapped in quotes, followed by a colon, then the url so it would look like this (with no spaces) : ” Craig Shillington’s Portfolio ” : http://www.redbubble.com/people/crackers1967/portfolio Craig Shillington’s Portfolio is wrapped in quotes, so that is the text people will see. http://www.redbubble.com/people/crackers1967/portfolio is the link we want the text to click too When you type that within Red Bubble without the spaces you get this : Craig Shillington’s Portfolio So, abbreviated – to make a text link in Red Bubble you would type this in as code: ” text ” : link Replacing the text and link for yours and no spaces. DISPLAYING JPG’S GIF’S PNG’S ETC Please try to keep the size of these files small, both in dimensions and in download size, as if you use a lot of bigger files, the pages you put them on will load more slowly and that might piss people off!! Okay, you look around and you notice somehow people are actually making it so that you can see the thumbnail photos of thier works, or others have cool little animated gifs showing. Well … if you can bring up a photo by itself in your browser, you can show it in Red Bubble!! And again, it’s really really easy. If you want to know the link to any photo you can see in your browser window, right click on the image itself (PC Users … sorry Mac users, maybe someone can help me here) and go down to properties. In the window that opens up you will see a section that has the image properties and the location (or URL). That is the link we need to show that image. I use a little rotating Note near all the links to Videos throughout my Portfolio, so I will be using that as an example here. This applies to ANY image you want to display though. First, right click on this LINK and open in a new Window or Tab. That way you can still read this and flick back to the link to practice. :) You will notice at the top of my description for the photo, I have used the Text Link method described above to link to the Video of that Song in YouTube. And right next to that link, to draw attention to the link, I have my little rotating Note :) Right Click on the little rotating Note and go to Properties. In the box that opens you will see the Image Properties and A URL to the Image. It should be this: http://home.people.net.au/ ~ casphotography/notes-15.gif That is the link to where I have the Note.gif Stored. And that is all you need to know for any image, the URL that will show just that image in your Browser. If you copy that link to your browser Address Bar (with no spaces) and hit Enter … all you should see is an empty page with the little note rotating in the top left corner. PERFECT!! If you can open any image in this way, you have the URL in the Address Bar. If you copy a link to your Address Bar and it doesn’t just show the image, something is wrong. Most Image URL will end in JPG, GIF or PNG. There are some exceptions, but there should be one of those somewhere in the URL. Okay, so we have the URL, how do we make the image show in Red Bubble. Where you want the image to be shown, paste or type the URL. Then at the very start and the very end of the URL (with no spaces) put EXCLAMATION MARKS {!} So my note would then be (without spaces): ! http://home.people.net.au/ ~ casphotography/notes-15.gif ! And in Red Bubble will look like this: So, abbreviated – to make an image show in Red Bubble you would type this in as code: ! URL ! Replacing the URL with the URL for the image and no spaces. IMAGE LINKS Okay, so we know and understand now how to make links and also how to display images in Red Bubble. If you don’t, go back and understand it because this next bit could be very confusing if you don’t ;) We know we can show an image, and we know we can make links to text. So can we make an image work as a link? YES!! VBS And it’s sorta easy if you understand what the code is doing and how it works. I will be using my Message Me button link in my profile for this example. Because that is an Image that links to my message board and so you can leave me a message ;) Here is the link to my Profile The very first button I have in there is the Message me Button. When you click on it, it takes you to my Journal Entry I set up for people to message me in. So I know the link … all I need to get now is the URL of the button. Easy, again, right click the Message Me Button and goto Properties, look at the Image Properties and the URL there … It should be this: http://home.people.net.au/ ~ casphotography/m.gif We know from above, to display an image we wrap it in Exclamation Marks, so to show that in Red Bubble we’d type (no spaces): ! http://home.people.net.au/ ~ casphotography/m.gif ! Which will show as: Okay, we have the image up and working, how do we link to it? Exactly the same way we link to text from above. Simply follow the code with a colon {:} and the link you want people to goto when they click the image. In this case my Message Board: http://www.redbubble.com/people/crackers1967/journal/show/30445 So the whole line of code would look like this (no spaces .. and ignore the word wrap, this is all one single line): ! http://home.people.net.au/ ~ casphotography/m.gif ! : http://www.redbubble.com/people/crackers1967/journal/show/30445 When typed with no spaces and on one line it looks like this: So, abbreviated – to make an image show in Red Bubble that links to a URL you would type this in as code: !     A lot of people are asking how to do the links to sets of photos or works in our profiles … so I thought I would outline it here for those of you that would like that option. First thing is to have sets in mind and tags to associate with those sets. Then … make sure you have those tags on the photos you want in each set. This way a photo can actually be in more than one set if you like :) Then …. to make the links in your profile: (I’ll use my tree tag as an example) / you type the set name followed by the link to all your photos tagged with tree like this ….. but without the spaces: ” Trees ” : http://www.redbubble.com/people/crackers1967/art/everything/tags/tree When you do this without the spaces you get this: Trees / Edit your Profile and place the set code somewhere within the About Me section. I place mine down a little lower because for some reason long lines get cut when you view your Profile on your Overview page, it looks neater down lower and only viewable when someone clicks on the more link. You should be able to copy and paste that line with the spaces and just change the word, tag name and username, then remove the spaces and go for your life. :) You can also bullet the list by placing a hash and then a space before the whole lot and it looks like this: Trees / / The easiest way to see what your username is, is to open up RedBubble and click on View your public Profile.     Almost every day I see people asking “how do I put pictures in my profile”. There are quite a number of tutorials on how to do this, and here is yet another. This one explains how to use the image from your “preview/buy” page in your profile, and also gives an explanation for creating a profile with smaller images, like the one below. The tutorial is written in a pdf format (for windows PC users – sorry mac people, I wish I could put the instructions in for you) and includes full link texts (difficult to put into a journal on Redbubble because the code you need to type in converts to images unless you leave spaces) and some screencaptures to help along the way.     I’ve gotten several inquiries about how to make those little thumbnail links on my public profile page. So here ya go everyone who wants to know how to do it. Let’s do it step by step. PART I If you have tabs on your internet browser, right click on your tab “art” from “my bubble” and open it in a new tab. If you don’t have tabs open “art” in a new window. You’ll bet switching between these two. In the first tab, where you are at “my bubble” go to “edit my profile.” Put the cursor where you want the picture to appear. Now, click on the window or tab where your “art” is located. Once there select the small thumbnail you want to display on your homepage. Right click and select properties. You will see an “http:/” address in that window. COPY THE ENTIRE LOCATION by right clicking and selecting copy. Next click on the tab or window that has your “edit my profile” open. Now, Where your cursor is located do this: 1. type an exclamation point(!) / 2. right click and select “paste” / 3. type an exclamation point (!) That will place the small thumbnail on your page (keep your “edit profile” open and don’t save yet) . Now if you want to link that small image to the a category of images do the following right next to the last exclamation point with no spaces: 4. in the second tab or window where your “art” is displayed, go to “my bubble” select “view public profile” and right click on the address bar and copy the web address there / 5. go back to the tab or window where your open “edit profile” is located and place the cursor at the end of the last exclamation point / 6. type a colon (:) and then right click and “paste” the web address there / 7. now type the following after your username in the web address (remember no spaces): /art/everything/tags/ANYTAGWORD “ANYTAGWORD” is the tag word that you use for a group of photos, like “flowers” or “abstract” 8. select “save changes” and then . . . TA DA you have inserted a linked picture. Now if you click on that photo, all your work that has the same tag words will be displayed in a new page nicely grouped together. Just make sure that the photos you want displayed in the group all have the same tag word. HERE IS WHAT THE FINAL LINKED IMAGE TEXT SHOULD LOOK LIKE (WITHOUT SPACES): !http://images-2.redbubble.com/img/art/cropped/size:xsmall/view:main/197061-8-autumn-gold.jpg ! :http://www.redbubble.com/people/hmbascom/art/everything/tags/flower Here’s the result: / PART II If you want your photo links side by side (like mine) just place one space between each link. If you want them in a column, press ENTER at the end of each link. PART III Do this for each photo link you want to place in your profile.

But only use relevant tags which describe key features of the work. Use your journal to give buyers a glimpse into your motivations, inspirations and learning. So, I thought I’d write a journal explaining how. / Go under “Edit My Profile” in the “About Me” section and type in the code(s): To insert a picture that clicks to another website or page: / ! yourpictureURL.jpg !:yourwebsiteURL.com There are NO spaces in the above code. That is exclamation point, website URL to the picture that should end in .jpg for most of you, exclamation piont, colon, the website you are linking the picture to. To insert ONLY a picture without it linking to a website: / ! yourpictureURL.jpg ! Once again, there are NO spaces in the above code. Add an exclamation point at the very beginning and end of the picture URL address that most likely will end in .jpg. So, as I’ve been asked quite a few times in the last few days about how to do this, I thought I would try and gather mine, and others’ info together. / / The idea of featuring other Bubblers was kicked off as an idea by Paul Louis Villani respect to Paul. the way to do it is as follows: There are some little bits of ‘code’ that you need to use and put into the description box. I’ll use THE PALM HOUSE PAGE as an example. Part 1a – the bit of text – Do check out Kara Rasmanis’ great portfolio / NOTE: this text can be whatever you want it to be. Part 2a – the web address of the page you want to link to using this text – http://www.redbubble.com/people/kvalle / NOTE: this is the public view web address of the person Part 3a – web address of the person’s I.D. picture – http://images-0.redbubble.com/rbimages/overview_bio_pic/KV.jpg / NOTE: to get this, go to the public page of the person, right-click their I.D. photo, left-click properties, and then you can left-click-hold and highlight the actual web address of their I.D. photo and COPY it and the PASTE it. Part 4a – and finally, if you want to make the picture a clickable link as well, which is nice, you repeat the web address of the page you want to link to – http://www.redbubble.com/people/kvalle joining it all together You don’t use conventional HTML tags to make it all work.     I recently had several requests for instructions on how to add buttons like the ones in my profile. Rather than send individual bubblemail messages, I’m posting it in my journal in case someone else would like to add buttons to their RB profile. BUTTON INSTRUCTIONS Tip: print out this page and put it beside the computer before you start. You can make your own buttons or you can use a site called ButtonGenerator. If you decide to use this site and not to pay for a membership, you will need to add a link back to the site. I made all of mine 125X26 to give you some idea of the size of the ones on my page. This size allowed 3 buttons side-by-side. Make all your buttons and then save them in a folder on your computer. Then you will need to upload each button to your RB image gallery and use the “Hide” feature so that no one sees them but you. Once you have them uploaded you will need to right-click on each one to get the url address html code in the properties box. Example: http://images-0.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1407403-1-autumn-button.jpg Then go to “Edit Your Profile” to copy the image html code AND the tag html code – it will look like this (without the spaces): ! http://images-0.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1407403-1-autumn-button.jpg ! : http://www.redbubble.com/people/patmonty/art/everything/tags/autumn [REMEMBER NO SPACES. I had to add spaces so you could see the html code. If I had not added spaces, the button would have appeared in the journal instead of the code.] The last word in the html code is the “tag” word. In the example above it is autumn. You will need to put one space between each set of button html code. If you have a lot of buttons the language is long and wraps around forever. But with one space between each button html code, the buttons will sit next to other and then wrap to the next line.     I have organised my pictures into Category pages linked from the Profile page by hyperlinks. If you want to know how to do it, follow the instructions below. It is a little complicated, but like all things, with a bit of practice, it will become easier. First, let’s look at the example. This gives me another opportunity to shamelessly showcase my own work. I’m always happy to take any opportunity to stick my work under your noses. (While you are looking, just think: MUST BUY TOM’S WORK, MUST BUY TOM’S WORK, MUST BUY TOM’S WORK). First, I want you to go visit my Profile Page to see the example. Details are below, but before you go there, read on: Once you reach my Profile Page, just scroll down a little and you will see that I have a list of underlined words; Rome, Florence, Pisa, etc. These are the hyperlinks to my Category Pages. Just click on any link, for example, click on Santorini, and you will be taken to a Category Page containing small versions of my Santorini pictures. On this page, you just need to click on any of the small pictures to be taken to the real page for that picture. Just click on the following link to go to my Profile Page: Tom’s Profile Page and test out my hyperlinks. OK, if you would like to do something similar then here we go: The method is as follows: / It is best to create your links in the Notepad application on your PC. I need to explain it, because if I type it here exactly as you need to do, RedBubble will convert the link into a real hyperlink in my Journal Page. CAUTION: / If you are using a text editor to creat your links, DO NOT USE A RICH TEXT EDITOR like MSWord as the double quotes will not work in redbubble. MSWord will produce curly double quotes (like this: “ ”). You MUST have straight double-quotes (like this: ” “). Look closely, there is a difference. Category Pages make use of the Tags that you add to your pictures when you upload them. In my Santorini example, I wrote the word santorini in the Tags entry area on the Edit page when I added the artwork to RedBubble. If you have not done this already, then you can add an appropriate tag via the Edit page for each of your pictures and save the edit. Once you have the Tags in place, you can now construct the Category Page hyperlinks. Type a double-quote (“) Then the name that you want to use in the hyperlink (make sure you have no spaces). Type another double-quote (“) Then a full-colon (:) Then http://www.redbubble.com/people/ Then your name – this is the name that you are called in RedBubble (in my case, it is tomg) Then /art/everything/tags/ Then the tag you want to point to – in my example, this would be santorini It should look something like this: / ” Santorini ” : http://www.redbubble.com/people/tomg/art/everything/tags/santorini / But without the spaces. You can then repeat this for each hyperlink you want to construct. Remember to change the tag at the end (change santorini for another tag). If you want the hyperlinks to be on separate lines, then just type them that way (with a carriage return between each entry). If you want the hyperlinks to appear on the same line, then you could insert a space between each hyperlink or some other character or characters to separate the hyperlinks. I use .. To make this spacer, or something similar: After your hyperlink, insert a space Type an asterisk Type the character(s) you want to use – in my case .. Type an asterisk – the asterisks at either end just make it appear bold on the page Insert a space before the next hyperlink. Be careful about how many hyperlinks you put on one line. There is not a lot of room to work with and your hyperlinks will wrap over lines if you make the line to long. Once you have typed it all into Notepad, highlight all of the text and copy it to your mouse buffer. Go to the Edit Your Profile page and scroll down to the About you entry area. Think about where you want the hyperlinks to appear in your Profile Page and paste the copied text into this window at that point. When you are finished, scroll to the bottom of the Edit Your Profile page and press the Save Changes button. That should be it. Now you can go to your Profile page and check that it all worked.     Okay … we have discussed how to set up Sets in your Profile, if you are not up to speed with doing that yet, I’d advise understanding and get that working first before attempting this next step. You can view that [HOW TO] HERE At the moment my Profile looks like THIS As you can see I have used the same type of button to try to keep my profile looking neat and tidy. First thing you will want to do is decide on what STYLE you want your profile to be, as the button choice will make all the difference. I liked mine because it sorta had a Red Button feel to it. You can either make your buttons online, the site I used was Button Generator , or you might want to have a go at making your own buttons (my buttons are about 135×25 pixels). Which ever you decide to do you will need somewhere online to upload your button to, that way when people view your profile the links to the buttons will work. I used my ISP’s storage space to store my buttons, you can also use free online storage spaces such as Image Shack to store them. Once you have this sorted out and the images uploaded, you are right to move onto the step of placing the images in your profile and linking those buttons to your Sets. We already know that we can link to text by placing quotes around the text and adding a colon and the link afterwards. That’s how we made the Sets and the links to them before. So we understand that putting a link directly after a colon links whatever is before that colon to that URL. Such as: ” link text ” : http://www.thelink.com The ” linktext ” part shows the text {linktext} as a link … and it links to the URL www.thelink.com because of the use of the colon. Of course when we put these links in our profiles, there are no spaces in the line at all … that way the whole thing works. When you understand how this works, you will see now that we can actually change the TEXT part for an image. In this case, instead of showing the sets as text links, we can change that for an image of a button. In Red Bubble, if you want to show ANY image all you need to do is know the link to the image and wrap that link in Exclamation marks. Easy eh. So to show a text link, you wrap the text in quotes … to show an image you wrap the image link in !’s. The MESSAGE ME button in my profile is stored at my ISP. The link is: http://home.people.net.au/ ~ casphotography/m.gif You can copy and paste that to the address bar in your browser (remove the spaces around the Tilde { ~ }) and press enter, it will open up the Message Me button in your browser window. What you then need to figure out is what the links to YOUR buttons are going to be. You can test if you have your links right by copying the links (like mine there) into your Browser Address bar and pressing enter. If the only thing you see in your browser window is your button (and it usually ends in jpg, gif or png) then THAT is the link to THAT button. All is working well :) :) To make the button visible in Red Button, all you need to do is wrap the LINK in !’s without any spaces at all so for my Message Me button it would look like this (again, without spaces): ! http://home.people.net.au/ ~ casphotography/m.gif ! You can play with that by editing your profile and going right to the bottom and putting the code in … then viewing the public version of your profile to make sure it works. Once you are happy with that, you can then move onto linking your sets to the buttons. :) Once again we know to link to stuff all we need to do is type a colon and the link we want to link to. :) As we have all already worked out how to do the TEXT versions of sets in our profiles, we are half way there already :) All we need to do now is replace the TEXT links we have with the BUTTON links. So really it is just a matter of removing the text parts and replacing those with the button codes. I will use my Trees Set as an example. As a text link it would look like this in my profile {again, no spaces} ” Trees ” : http://www.redbubble.com/people/crackers1967/art/everything/tags/tree If you have set the Text links up to your Sets in your Profiles you will already have lines like this there. What we want to do now is replace the TEXT link for Trees, with the button. So all we do is replace the ” Trees ” bit with the button photo. In my Profile it looks like this: ! http://home.people.net.au/~casphotography/RB/Profile/treesbutton.gif ! : http://www.redbubble.com/people/crackers1967/art/everything/tags/tree That is probably not showing as one whole single line, but when you put it in your profile it is … one single line of text without spaces. Then it will look like this: So, go edit that line you put in to show your button at the bottom of your profile before. Have the Button link wrapped in !’s … then a colon {:} then the link to your set. Save and preview your Public profile and click the button and make sure it works. If it does you can now add more buttons and links. :) If you want more than one button on a line (I have 2 per line) just do each button code with a space between them. so you will have code for 2 or 3 buttons all on one line with a space between the 1st and 2nd and a space between the 2nd and 3rd button codes. It will look strange in your Profile when you are editing it because the long lines will wrap back to the start, so it will look like they are broken, but as long as you have spaces where you are meant to, and no spaces where there aren’t meant to be, all should work. Again, practice at the bottom of your profile and keep checking it till it works, then when you have it working, move the text up in the About Me box till you have it placed where you want it. I have found that placing a line of space between each line helps too. Good Luck :) :) Just a warning on using MS Word or other programs for editing text. These programs have a funny way of formatting text and as such using them will make all the code not work. IF you are going to use such a program to edit text I would suggest using MS Notepad ….. or simply type out the code in RB and copy and paste and edit within your About Me Box View all my HOW TO’S

    As we have already noticed, Redbubble dont speak the same lingo, as in, it doesnt use HTML or CSS etc, which means; we cannot use a lot of the widgets, scripts and all dem goodies out there in here. Which is ok, but sometimes i found that i wanted to promote about my other sites/projects here in my profile.. but couldnt.. till now :) / (well, I figured it out now..prob been able to for ages already..hehe) As you that may have read my previous post, i discovered more of Feedburner goodies recently. In that discovery i found a Widget that can animate your RSS feed – that doesnt use html or scripts, which means we can use it in here! I utilized the RSS Animated widget in two ways : First, i’ve been wanting to bring my journal post entry titles further UP in my profile, but cuz ive got a pretty jam packed profile on the left hand side..it forces the Journal Entries way down to the bottom end, and i dont know if people scroll that far down! LOL! So with animated rss widget from Feedburner (i chose the Email option/display) I can now place (like below for example) in the higher end of my profile, where it will ‘flash’ the most recent post (utilizing my rb journal rss feed), Hopefully giving it more attention.. the second way i used it.. / is to take the half banner size option on white background of the same Animated Widget – with feeds from my two sites, Artdictive and Webgrrl’shop – flashing the most recent posts there.. / WANT TO MAKE A QUICK ANIMATION OF YOUR ART for display purposes like THIS? / / Go to PICASION where you can Create Animated GIF online for free! Upload your pictures or grab them from Flickr or Picasa Web, make avatars or funny animations and post it to MySpace, LiveJournal, Facebook or Redubble. No need for Flash FOR THOSE WHO LIKE TO SEE STATS / At the bottom of my profile you should be able to see LIVE STATS, free service by FEEDJIT . Make sure you get the Run-Anywhere Widget (link takes you directly there) Usually they all are scripts, but this one is not and i’ve been quite happy using Feedjit services on most of my blogs for free interesting stats.     Hi everyone, I am by no means an expert, but I do have some great, simple tips and hints that can help get you noticed and on your way to selling your shirts. These may have been covered on the forums, but I wanted to streamline it a bit and put it all in one tight package. First, I recommend that you get familiar with copying images and links on Redbubble.com by reading the information on the forums to get a basic idea of it all. Take note of these ideas, and if you have any success since reading this article, drop the thumbnail of your of your sold shirt here with an embedded link to that shirt so we can congratulate you! —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-— So here we go, starting with the most obvious thing first - 1. ONLY POST THE BEST DESIGNS IN YOUR PROFILE / I can’t stress this enough, if your design is not as good as it could be, it will bring down your entire portfolio – so go through your portfolio and be harsh in culling anything that doesn’t receive much attention or look as good as the rest. It is much better to have 5 amazing pieces than 30 half decent ones! 2.SHOWING A HIGHER QUALITY PREVIEW IN THE SIDE BAR / You may be aware that you can show a larger preview of your work in the right hand side bar, but this can often be the low quality image that we copy directly off the website. I would recommend for those tech-savvy people, to use a high quality preview file, showing the whole image or using only a zoomed in section of your image. This will give your customers a much better understanding of the quality they will get from the lines/detail of your work. You will notice on most of my works, like this / one, I have included a higher quality preview image in the right hand side bar, in this case it even has a custom watermark – ooh snazzy! There is a simple way to do this – first, after you have uploaded your shirt, go back into the program you used to make the design. Open that design and make it smaller – Width 500px and save it as a jpg. You can make it much larger than this, but I find it to be the best size. Then, upload the jpg to a website like Flickr, Facebook, Myspace or anywhere you can upload a picture. Then copy the link for where that picture is saved – _this can usually be done by right clicking on the image, going to Properties and copying the entire Address (URL). Once you have that link copied, Edit your recently uploaded shirt, and in the description box, after your words, put in an exclamation mark , followed by the link, http://example.com/image.jpg and then follow that with another exclamation point. Redbubble.com uses the exclamation marks as brackets to display images, much like the inverted commas are used to display someone speaking. 3. USING LINKED THUMBNAILS AROUND REDBUBBLE / Example: / Linked Thumbnails are a visual tease, advertising your work. Displayed in the right place they can be very effective. I would recommend going that one step further and displaying your best designs on your home page, shirt previews and in the forums (when appropriate). This is a great example of using linked thumbnails to display your other work – Here , and if you click through to his home page you will see rudeboyskunk has displayed his best work again, in linked thumbnail form. It is actually quite simple to display linked thumbnails around your site. First, go to your home page (by clicking on your name at the top right of the page). In the Clothing section, click on the View All Clothing link. This will display all your clothing works in thumbnail format. For this example (I’m using Internet Explorer), right click on the thumbnail you want to use. Go to Properties and copy the full Address (URL). It is best to open up Notepad, or Microsoft Word and paste the link into there. / Then, under the thumbnail you just clicked on, right click on the Name of the thumbnail, go to Properties and copy the full Address (URL). Paste this under the thumbnail link in Notepad or Microsoft Word. You should have something like this - / http://images-1.redbubble.net/img/clothing/bodycolor:black/cropped/ / size:small/style:mens/view:main/151516 EXAMPLE SHIRT.jpg (IMAGE LINK) http://www.redbubble.com/people/diesellaws/clothing/1572613 EXAMPLE SHIRT (PAGE LINK) Now all you need is to put them together (the end result will look something like this): !IMAGE LINK!:PAGE LINK Then next thing to do is copy that whole lot of text and paste it into your profile section, description, emails and forums. Do the same thing for every thumbnail you want to display. It may be a bit time consuming, but it looks professional and if and you are willing to put in the effort, it will pay off. 4. REPLYING TO COMMENTS/LEAVING COMMENTS/THANKING PEOPLE / No matter how many things are taking up your time in this busy world, there is never an excuse for not replying to, commenting on and Watchlist-ing another artist. This simple (but often forgotten) gesture will start discussions, and more often than not, increase the views of your work. Every now and then, I head to the Clothing page and view the recent works – then I pick out a few I like and comment them, and in most cases, favourite them. If their portfolio is really good, I will even add the artist to my Watchlist. When someone leaves a comment on your work, make a point to reply back to them straight away, thanking them for their comment. They have taken the time to go through the mass of submissions, to end up on your work and gone even further to leave you a comment! You should always thank them for that! Also, if you like an artist, send them a Bubblemail. It takes two seconds to do and it is great for getting tips and building a friendship. When I first started on RB I was really impressed with thickblackoutline , so, I sent her a Bubblemail (and added her to my Watchlist. It wasn’t long before I received some very useful tips and inspiration, and we are now in the process of co-hosting a group. If an artist inspires you, or you have a question, do not be afraid to ask! You never know what kind of tips they will pass on and, they may even like your work! 5. PROMOTING ON OTHER WEBSITES / I’m sure you are all aware of how advertising on other websites can increase sales. But most of you aren’t aware that the best advertising is right in front of you! Most people have a Facebook, Myspace and or Bebo etc. On Facebook, you can post pictures of your artwork in your Photos section – and put a link to the shirt in the description! This will get sent to all your friends on their homepage letting them know that you have just uploaded a new picture – think of how many friends may be interested to know you have just uploaded a Darth Vader Rocks” T-shirt!. —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— I really hope these tips help you and I would love to know how you went since implementing some of these hints.     Art Criticism: How to Criticize a Work of Art / A four step process This is what I give my students as a guide to art appreciation: 1. Description- What do I see? Study the work in detail carefully. Describe the work in full detail. Be factual. Mention everything you see. 2. Analysis- How is the work organized? Look for and talk about the elements and principles of art and design that seems to dominate the work. Look at how the artist has used The Elements of Art / • Lines- real and implied, curved and straight, direction of movement / • Shapes, Space, Forms- Are the shapes geometric or free-form? Where is the horizon? Where is your point of view as the viewer? (Above, below, in the work, or outside) / • Colors- Warm, cool, bright, dull, soft, bold, etc. / • Value- light: reflecting much light; dark: absorbing much light. / • Texture-Both the medium and the objects portrayed: rough, smooth, shinny, dull Look at The Principles of Design / • Rhythm- Are there repeats of elements or images? / • Movement- Is there an illusion of action? How does the eye move around the work? / • Balance- Formal or Symmetrical, informal or asymmetrical / • Proportion- The size relationships between one part to the whole or one part to another part / • Variety- Visual difference and contrast within the work / • Emphasis- What part is dominant, and what part is subordinate? / • Unity- Does the work hold together? 3. Interpretation- What is happening? This is more than storytelling. As in literature, you need to interpret and generalize from data given. You need to find the metaphor or allegory in the work. What is the artist trying to communicate? Use your intelligence, imagination and courage to explain and tell the meaning of the work. This is based on the facts you have observed and your own life experiences. You can express your feelings, but they must be backed up by the observations you have made about the work. 4. Judgment- What do I think of the work? Does the work hold together visually? Does it communicate with the viewer? Judge whether the work succeeds or fails. You give your opinion backed by the three steps above. To make a judgment, you need to be honest with yourself. You need to know why you feel the way you do. Three Theories of Judging Art Imitationalism -Some people believe that art should imitate what we see in the real world. / Formalism – Some people believe that the most important part of a work is in the use of the principles of design and the elements of art. A work is successful if the texture, color, lines, etc are organized properly. / Emotionalism – Some people believe that the most important part of the work is the mood the artist communicates.     Tags Tags Tags. They help people find your work, improve you chances of being featured, and google search will love you more. So learning to do it right is a great idea. Excessive tagging does not work in your favor. You should only use tags that are obvious keywords that would connect a searcher with your work. Let me give you an example… Here is an image of a calculator (courtesy of google search) A good set of tags would be: calculator, numbers, mathematics, maths, buttons, machine, white, photograph A not so good set of tags would be: calculator, numbers, integers, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0, +, -, /, add, subtract, divide, mulitply, square root, screen, buttons, grey, black , white, maths, mathematics, science, finance, bookkeeping, nerd, office, administration, machine, technology, digital Why is the second set the weaker one? Because most of the terms tagged there only have the tiniest little thing to do with the image. This then goes on to pollute the searches of people who are actually looking for an image of a + symbol or an image of a nerdy caricature . The more polluted the search is, the more times people will just give up and go elsewhere. Anyway, hope that is some good general information for you.

    I am certainly no expert at making tee shirts. I know there are others out there who are the real experts. So I’m just going to share a few helpful hints that came out of my struggles to get two tee designs uploaded on RB. Here’s what I did: Opened Photoshop Elements (or any other image editing program) and set up a new empty page. Set the dimensions to 2400 width x 3200 height with a transparent background. IMPORTANT NOTE: If the background is not transparent, it will not work! If you are one pixel off on the dimensions, it will not work! You cannot transpose the pixels either (NOT 3200 width x 2400 height) as it will not work! Transferred (copied) an image to the blank/transparent background. Added text to complete my design. Saved image as a .png file. NOTE: Other file extensions (such as .jpg) will not work! It must be a .png file! Uploaded to Redbubble with a default color and a default style.     Quite a few people have asked me recently how to post framed images of their work under the buy button or in the description area, as I have done here I think it adds another dimension to your page and hopefully encourages people to go one step further than the buying a card option. Thought it might be a good idea to do a general post about this. Will also add this to the various group forums I’m in. Apologies if this has already been done elsewhere. Anyway, here’s how to do it! 1. click the “buy” button on your already uploaded image / 2. click “framed print” option / 3. right click and copy image address / 4. then go back to your ‘my bubble’ and click on your “art” tab and go to the pic you want to edit / 5. Paste image address in the description box / 6. add exclamation marks at the start and end of image address (don’t leave any spaces) / 6. Press save ...and voila! You have it! Bt the way this only works with pics in portrait mode not landscape (you can still insert landscape pics but the right hand side gets chopped off) Cheers & Good Luck / Loredana :-)

    I have been getting many e-mails asking about how I convert my drawings from paper to tee-shirts, with a transparent background. Here’s how I do it: I scan my drawings, then if needed, I clean them up by erasing extra marks and such. Then I use a photoshop action that can be downloaded here: Link This action is for Adobe photoshop only! How it works: this works only with black/white images (colored images will be automatically converted to b/w), and basically converts everything to black, but the lighter areas become various transparencies of black (this results in various shades of gray when viewed against any background). After you apply the action, you end up with two layers: background (white) and outlines (the drawing). I delete the background layer, and…ta-da!! If I choose to color the design, then I create another layer, and put it underneath the outlines layer, so that the color would go under the black outlines. Note: tweak your contrast and levels BEFORE applying the action, as you won’t be able to tweak anything afterward because your drawing will be technically all BLACK. I tried to explain this as best as I could, and hope this makes sense to everyone. / Feel free to ask any further questions!!     I am not sure if someone else has already posted a tutorial on this, so I thought I would have a go at it. I read this very insightful tutorial by admin Xavier Shay about posting a Portfolio into an email signature. I was toying around with the code, and discovered how to place the code on your Red Bubble profile page. I have noticed that some people have already figured out how to do this, so there are some who probably already know about this. I, however, did not know this until I toyed around with it and, so, I am sure that there others out there who might find this of value. I would first recommend that you read Xavier’s post and the comments that follow, as they were a very big help in learning how to do this. (1) The first step is to use the image location link that was provided in the forum tutorial: http://redbubble.com/people/username/recipe:banner;back_color:ffffff;orientation:horizontal;limit:4/username_banner.jpg (2) Next, paste this image location link somewhere in your “About Me” section between exclamation points, like this: !place the image location link here! (3) Now, notice the bold areas of the above link. You must insert your Red Bubble username (not your real name) where it says username (there are two spots in the link where you have to do this). So, my link would like like this: http://redbubble.com/people/bchrisdesigns/recipe:banner;back_color:ffffff;limit:4_;orientation:_horizontal;/bchrsidesigns_banner.jpg Can you tell where I have replaced “username” with “bchrisdesigns”? (4) Finally, if you take note of the italicized text in the image location link directly above, you will notice that the values of “back_color”, “orientation”, and “limit” are all italicized. These values are yours to control and manipulate to get the proper look and feel that you would like on your page. back_color: is the image’s background color, which you can change to any color using the standard HTML Color Code. Note, that you do not need to use the # (pound sign) that normally precedes HTML Color Code (i.e. ”#ffffff”) – you just need the code (i.e. “fffffff”). #ffffff is the color code for “white”. limit: is the number of thumbnails that will be seen in your banner. I have experimented with this in my blog and have discovered that the most you can set it to is “6”. On your Red Bubble profile page, the most you can really set it to is “4” for horizontal images and “6” for vertical images orientation: is the way your portfolio will be seen. This can be changed to either “horizontal” (from side-to-side) or “vertical” (up and down). And, that is it. Once you have decided how you want your image to look, just save your profile and presto! You’ve got a nifty banner on your page. BUT… If you would like your banner to be click-able, you need to add a link code to it, such as: ”! image location here ! ( link description here )” : hyperlink here You can copy and paste this example into your “About Me” section and then fill in the blanks with your information (make sure you delete any and all spaces). In the above example, replace the underlined text as follows: image location here: replace this text with the finalized image location link that we worked on in steps 1-4 above. link description here: replace this text with a description of what you would like people to see when they hover over your banner. (Mine says “View My Red Bubble Gallery”.) hyperlink here: replace this text with the actual hyperlink that you would like your image to link to (i.e. a specific Red Bubble section or your profile page; you can also link to your blog/website/etc.). Once you replace the text as indicated, simply save your edited profile and check out your radical awesomeness! Here is an example of mine (with hyperlink): I hope this helps everyone! Cheers! P.S.     WOW… so far we’ve had 129 favouritings and 1,404 views in the first month of uploading this journal and the other journal i’ve had lots of interest in this topic, so happy it’s what you’re looking for, and hope it helps lots :) Hi everyone, This would be the most FAQ I receive from other bubblers, ie, how do i enhance my profile, how do I create a link, how do I display my products on the page…. Just in case you’ve been away for a little while or missed this Enhancing Your Red Bubble Profile Page and Portfolio Tutorial I want to share it with you again, I’d like to get this out to as many folks and especially new bubblers, so i don’t mind one bit if you journal it and share it around with a link to help any newcomers etc…..because it’s really important to me that everyone have the tools they need to enhance their red bubble pages… I have added a new section, and will continue to add to it as the need arises, any new and helpful information in the form of how to do things to improve the look of your bubble. Don’t forget to print this sheet up, favourite it, keep it beside your computer for easy reference, and remember…..if you lose it, or the favourite disappears, you can always just go to my profile page where i’ve put a BIG BUTTON to link you to the Tutorial, see below…also there are two other buttons there as well, one is to share with you other tutorials by helpful bubblers which you may find useful, and Red Bubbles Frequently Asked Questions and Answers over in the forums to give you fast and easy access…...     If you want to add a real signature to your images (as in this example), follow the instructions below: 1. Write a neat, readable signature. / 2. Scan it as a picture (.jpg file) at 300 dpi (ppi) / 3. Save the signature file. The following directions are for Adobe Photoshop Elements 5 and Adobe Photoshop CS2 (these are the versions I have). Some minor adjustments may be necessary if you are using another version. The next step is to save your signature as a brush. / 1. Open the scanned signature file in Photoshop. / 2. Select the Marquis tool. / 3. Draw the marquis around your signature (keep it tight to the edges of the signature). / 4. Click on the Brush tool. In CS2: / – Click on the Edit pull-down menu and select Define Brush Preset… / – A dialogue box will open (Brush Name). / – Go to Instruction step 5. In Elements: / – Click on the Edit pull-down menu and select Define Brush from Selection… / – A dialogue box will open (Pattern Name). 5. Next, name your brush something like my signature. / 6. Click OK. The next step is to place your signature on an image. / 7. Open your image in PhotoShop. / 8. Select the Brush tool. / 9. Go to Brush Presets Picker. Scroll to your signature – it should be near the bottom. You may use the square bracket keys to make the signature brush appear larger (use ]) or smaller (use [). / 10. Go to the area where you want to place your signature and click once. / 11. Save the picture as your photo name_Signed or something like that so as not to destroy your original picture. Cautions: / #1 / Images in RB are often cropped to fit to standard sizes. The Card option is one that may crop some of your original artwork depending on the size of the image. Depending on where you have placed your signature, RB may crop some of it away. Always check, by pressing on the buy/preview button in the Public View. You will be able to see if the signature has been cropped. If it has been cropped, load your original shot back into PhotoShop and repeat the process of adding the signature, but in a better position. Re-save the image (overwrite your signed copy). In RB, go to Edit mode for the image and upload the modified image (Change the image), then press the Save Changes button at the bottom of the Edit page. #2 / Depending on where you place the signature, you may need to change the colour of the brush tool.     This is a ‘how to’ do the through the viewfinder or ttv technique written for all of you that have expressed interest recently. It is by no means a rule book because I think each person would approach it differently but this is how I manage it..and remember with ttv really there ARE NO RULES :) It will require you to use that creative imagination but this is honestly half the fun of it!! I should give you some background info firstly, it is rumored to have first been thought of by Mr E on Flickr back in 2005 but there are is no hard proof of this just speculation on my behalf. TTV is still really huge on flickr with hundreds of groups dedicated to the different styles and subjects of ttv eg nature, black&white, manipulated, ferriswheels, self-portraits, etc etc So firstly ..what you are going to need, the essentials; / 1- a twin reflex camera eg. Kodak Duaflex, Argus75, or any other camera that has a large viewfinder. NB Most can be picked up from flea markets or ebay for as little as $5. Most take 620 film that is no longer made/available so this is why they are so cheap plus they are a dime a dozen as they were mass produced in the 1950s & 60’s. / 2- a digital camera with a pretty good macro so you are able to zoom in nice and close to the viewfinder / 3- a tripod certainly helps but isn’t essential / 4- something to block out excess light from above that shines onto your viewfinder glass, this can be a specially made box, a round piece of cardboard, or anything else that will do the job that you have laying about. / 5- a good sense of humor and a healthy dose of patience!! Here’s some of my twin reflex kids / This is the argoflex 75 and the kodak duaflex / This is an ansco and not my gun shells there ..its goose shooting season here and I have included them for size comparison. I wouldn’t recommend the ansco to start with as its really fiddley!! / This is looking down at the ansco’s viewfinder. / This is zooming in as tight as possible with my macro lens. / This is the image that has been cropped and is now ready for what ever colour adjustments or processing you wish to do. / OK so this isn’t my image of choice here but you get the general idea.. / This is a random piece of cardboard tube that I now use to block out excess light reflecting on the viewfinder glass. / Here is the side view..if you insist on being really anal about it you get some ideas for building the exact fit to your camera from flickr here If you would like a really indepth tutorial I can recommend Russ Morris’s here A few other points I’d like to add….some may wonder why go to all this trouble when you can do all of this with photoshop (fake ttvs) well my answer to that is I really like being able to see what image I want to create in the field and quite frankly it is so much more fun and creative to be actually ‘out there’ doing it! Secondly I don’t think all images or concepts are suited to the ttv style so this will be a matter of trial and error to see what fits for you. Lastly -the ttv style is all about embracing age and the antique-look of an image so think carefully about your post processing. Alot of ttv actually looks wonderful all on its own and I think many would be shocked at how little I actually do to some ttvs. Please use this link if you wish to find out more about the different processes and for free photoshop downloads here / that help achieve the vintage, grungey look.
