  • She is one of the survivors in Rwanda. She lost her parents during the genocide. A mere child herself, she became a parent to her siblings. Letting go of her chance to be a child, a chance of an education, a chance of a happy childhood. Instead she gave that to her siblings. so that they may have a better chance at life, a life that fills with equality and acceptance. / There were many childheaded households in Rwanda post genocide. There were not enough orphanages to house all the orphans. Bishop Alexis founded the Barakabaho foundation that coordinated and assisted these orphans so they might stay with their own families and relatives. Those who did not have any distant relatives were put in different housing facilities. The eldest sibling became the head of the household. Some were as young as 10 years old at the time. Now they are adults and we had the opportunity to meet up and to spend a day with some of these courageous people. We played games with them. The hesitation soon turned to laughter and childlike excitement. On that day they were happy, On that day they had something to eat. On that day, they live for that moment. / Addition: sadly the problem still persists. There are still many family headed by children as the HIV/AIDS epidemic takes its toll.

  • This is my big guy Tucker. He’s an Occiecat or part Occie and he’s a big mushpot. He doesn’t like me to touch him ‘cause I’m apparently the alpha cat in the house so he’s kinda in awe of me. Funny though… sometimes he lets me massage his belly. Click once on image to enlarge. / / / /

  • Nephthys was an ancient goddess, who was referenced in texts dating back to the Old Kingdom. She was a member of the Ennead of Heliopolis as the daughter of Geb and Nut and the sister of Osiris, Isis and Horus and the sister and wife of Set. When the Ennead and Ogdoad merged, Nephthys was given a place on Ra´s boat so that she could accompany him on his journey through the underworld. Nephthys is the Greek pronunciation of her name. To the Egyptians she was Nebthwt (Nebhhwt or Nebthet) meaning The Mistress of the House She was described as the head of the household of the gods and was thought to extend her protection to the head female of every household. She was sometimes associated with Ptah-Tanen in representing Lower Egypt, while Khnum and Isis represented Upper Egypt Acrylics & pigment on paper.

  • The original ATHENA was the essence of the family bond, symbolized by the home and hearth – and by the mild serpent who, like a household cat, lived in the storehouse and protected the family’s food supplies against destructive rodents. As household goddess, Athena ruled the implements of domestic crafts: the spindle, the pot and the loom. By extrapalation, she was the guardian of the ruler’s home, the goddess of the palace – a symbol of the community itself, the larger social unit based on countless homes. / She is often depicted as a warrior and protector of the tribe – thereto the shield, arrows/quiver and owl or hawk depicted upon sculptures, glyphs and reliefs of her likeness. / This is a photograph of Athena, from Ceasar’s Palace Mall in Las Vegas, Nevada (taken many years ago) – it has been manipulated in photoshop7. / This is for the Divine Feminine “Oh my Goddess” challenge ~ Athena is probably the goddess that I most associate with, besides Lilith. • The island of Delos is a sacred island a short journey from Mykonos Island in the Cyclades Islands group and is part of Greece. It is one of the most important mythological, historical and archaeological sites in Greece. Since 1873 the École Française d’Athènes (“French School of Athens”) has been excavating the island, the complex of buildings of which compares with those of Delphi and Olympia. This mosiac is from the 3rd century BC and found in the elegant residential quarter inhabited by Roman bankers and Egyptian and Phoenician merchants. Their one- and two-story houses were typically built around a central courtyard, sometimes with columns on all sides. Floor mosaics of snakes, panthers, birds, dolphins, and Dionysus channeled rainwater into cisterns below. Sold to an RB Member in matted print format after being featured in a group.

It’s easy to be impressed by images of beautiful locations we may never visit, gorgeous hair and makeup we wouldn’t have a clue how to achieve or masterpieces we’d never have the patience to create but I have to admit I harbour a secret admiration for people who can take an ordinary object and use it to create a beautiful image. It’s a reminder that with a little imagination, inspiration could be as close as your kitchen cupboards, your wardrobe or your garden shed. As the images below demonstrate, ordinary household objects make wonderful subjects for photographic experiments, paintings, drawings and t-shirt designs: / / If you’re after a little more inspiration, we suggest visiting these groups: Art of the Mundane Domestic Art Object Studies & Concepts Knick Knacks Project: Your mission, should you chose to accept it, is to put aside some time this week to seek out some inspiration within the walls of your house. Rifle through your kitchen cupboards, your children’s toy chest, your toolbox or anywhere else that takes your fancy and produce an artwork based on what you find. We’d love to see the results so please post them below! Nat
