I took this sometime in the summer in my bathroom. There was a giant spiderweb on the window so I sprayed it with water… most of it ended up on the window which is the bokeh you seen in the background. Enjoy!

Top Ten in the “Cottage Window Boxes” challenge in Cottage Style September 29, 2009. / Featured in Communities August 9, 2009. Best Viewed Large I’ve always been attracted to window boxes overflowing with colorful flowers. As I walked along the brick-paved sidewalks of New Market, Maryland, a few weeks ago, this lovely home in the historic section caught my eye. Image taken July 19, 2009 with the Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens. Shutter 1/500, aperture f/11.0, exp. 0.00, iso 1600. Post processing included HDR from a single hand-held image in Photomatix, some hand painting in Corel Paint 11, and a bit of tweaking in Photoshop.

Featured in Live and Let Live August 7, 2009. This adorable little structure is at the entrance of a lovely community along route 97 in Howard County, Maryland. It is directly across the road from Hope Not Forsaken. “The Gatehouse” was taken on July 19, 2009 with the Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens in RAW/NEFF format. Shutter speed was 1/250, aperture f/9.0, exp .33, iso 400. It was duplicated twice in Photoshop to evals of +/ 2 and processed in Photomatix for hdr. Returned to Photoshop for a light Orton Technique.

Top Ten in the “Horizontal Use of Thirds” challenge in Photography-Rule of Thirds October 11, 2009. / Featured in Sets of Two September 3, 2009. Best Viewed Larger A companion piece to “Yoooooo Hooooo???” taken on July 12, 2009 on Route 30, west of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. For the main image, I was using the Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens, shutter 1/1600, aperture 7.1, exp -.33, iso 320. Post included levels, dodging, burning, selective coloring in Photoshop then addition of three textures, one of which was my own. In addiion, the house image was combined with one of my own sky shots, taken in my backyard in Maryland. Best on Full Size (767 views on 11/4/09) The male Eastern Bluebird … my favorite birdie … image captured on a bird walk in Olney, Maryland in June of ‘08 with the Nikon D40x and the 70-300mm vr Nikon lens at focal length of 300mm. Image has been cropped. Shutter was 1/320, Aperture f/5.6, exp 0.00, iso 100. Texture added in Photoshop along with some digital painting. Range and Habitat / Eastern Bluebird: Breeds east of Rockies from southeast Canada to Gulf of Mexico; winters in southern portion of breeding range. Inhabits open woodlands, clearings, farmlands, parks, orchards, gardens, fields; often seen along roadsides on utility wires and fences. INTERESTING FACTS / When approached by a predator, male Eastern Bluebirds make a song-like warning cry. If a male is not present, a female will begin to sing, hoping to attract a protective male back to the territory. / Their numbers have declined due to competition from starlings and house sparrows for nest sites. / Clutch size varies with latitude and longitude, with bluebirds farther north and farther west having larger clutches. / A group of thrushes are collectively known as a “hermitage” and a “mutation” of thrushes.
