  • Sitting
    by bchrisdesigns

Who here can claim that driving is power? / Probably all you who call this rush hour.

I wrote this poem in August of 2003 and it has gone through many tweaks since then. It has never been published and I am a little wary of putting on RB because of the First Rights issue. However, I wanted to join the Boredom Competitions on the 24/7 group’s latest competition What Moves You. I may decide to take this down after the competition or not, depending upon the response it receives. I chose this piece because, while a car and driving do “move” a person – traffic does not. So, while this poem may appear to reflect something that does not move me, it is actually depicting something that IS moving me…just at a slower pace, which is aggravating. I also think it works on two levels and has a metaphorical connection to being “moved” as well. Sometimes, what moves me not to get into the car and go is the thought of traffic and “rush hour”. I think it is also what moves many people to exhibit signs of road rage. I hope you enjoy! As always, feedback is sought and appreciated! Cheers! / CREATION INFORMATION Medium: Writing – Poetry, Social Satire Tools: Microsoft Word, My Brain/Imagination Topic: Satire, Social Commentary, Driving / CONTEST & CHALLENGE HISTORY 04/07/08 – Written Finalist for Boredom Competitions on the 24/7’s What Moves You Competition Members can see all finalists and vote here for their favorites.
