A short ‘what if’ story influenced by Ray Bradbury

Who here can claim that driving is power? / Probably all you who call this rush hour.
I wrote this poem in August of 2003 and it has gone through many tweaks since then. It has never been published and I am a little wary of putting on RB because of the First Rights issue. However, I wanted to join the Boredom Competitions on the 24/7 group’s latest competition What Moves You. I may decide to take this down after the competition or not, depending upon the response it receives. I chose this piece because, while a car and driving do “move” a person – traffic does not. So, while this poem may appear to reflect something that does not move me, it is actually depicting something that IS moving me…just at a slower pace, which is aggravating. I also think it works on two levels and has a metaphorical connection to being “moved” as well. Sometimes, what moves me not to get into the car and go is the thought of traffic and “rush hour”. I think it is also what moves many people to exhibit signs of road rage. I hope you enjoy! As always, feedback is sought and appreciated!
