Just outside of Nagano, Japan is the only area in the world where hot springs and Japanese Macaques meet. Known as “Snow Monkeys”, the Macaques spend their day frolicking between snow clad hills and natural hot springs.
In Yellowstone National Park this group of elk and some calves came down while we were at the end of the boardwalk.

A wonderful place to relax the world away in this natural hot tub setting… and also a great place for viewing the Northern Lights of Alaska… This is actually a natural thermal hot springs… known as Chena Hot Springs Rock Lake, located about 60 miles Northeast of Fairbanks, Alaska. The water temperature is 110 degrees year round, and the depth of the lake varies daily, depending on the activity of the Springs itself, but is typically around 4 feet in depth…. You don’t even notice the below 20 degree temperatures as you exit the lake and head back to the bathhouse….
Focal length 6-20mm.

A thousand Yellowstone wonders are calling, ‘Look up and down and round about you! John Muir – 1898 The temperatures were in the single digits on this cold, snowy January morning at West Thumb Geyser Basin, which is one of the smallest geyser basins in Yellowstone. A incredibly scenic area along the shore of Yellowstone Lake, West Thumb only has a small amount of geyser activity. However, the basin more than makes up for it with its diversity. Despite its small size, it has paint/mud pots, hot springs, pools, lake shore geysers, and fumaroles. Fumaroles are small openings that release steam and other gasses. You can see in the foreground the muddy, soupy waters inundating the paint pots. The white area beyond the tree line in the right hand side of the photograph is Yellowstone Lake. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Please don’t copy or download this image. One of our family’s favorite vacation spots is Pagosa Springs in Colorado. We love soaking in the hot springs pools, play in the swimming pool or in San Juan River, go fishing, or just enjoy the nature and all the beauty around. Here’s a capture from the Hot Springs pool in Pagosa, taken early in the morning.
