  • To the Nile / Son of the old Moon-mountains African! / Chief of the Pyramid and Crocodile! / We call thee fruitful, and that very while / A desert fills our seeing’s inward span: / Nurse of swart nations since the world began, / Art thou so fruitful? or dost thou beguile / Such men to honour thee, who, worn with toil, / Rest for a space ‘twixt Cairo and Decan? / O may dark fancies err! They surely do; / ‘Tis ignorance that makes a barren waste / Of all beyond itself. Thou dost bedew / Green rushes like our rivers, and dost taste / The pleasant sunrise. Green isles hast thou too, / And to the sea as happily dost haste / By John Keats Acrylics & pigment.

  • Nephthys was an ancient goddess, who was referenced in texts dating back to the Old Kingdom. She was a member of the Ennead of Heliopolis as the daughter of Geb and Nut and the sister of Osiris, Isis and Horus and the sister and wife of Set. When the Ennead and Ogdoad merged, Nephthys was given a place on Ra´s boat so that she could accompany him on his journey through the underworld. Nephthys is the Greek pronunciation of her name. To the Egyptians she was Nebthwt (Nebhhwt or Nebthet) meaning The Mistress of the House She was described as the head of the household of the gods and was thought to extend her protection to the head female of every household. She was sometimes associated with Ptah-Tanen in representing Lower Egypt, while Khnum and Isis represented Upper Egypt Acrylics & pigment on paper.

  • Hathor is a very ancient goddess, dating to predynastic times. When dynastic rule began, as Horus was associated with the king, Hathor was with the queen. Her name translates to “The House of Horus,” and so she is associated with the royal family. But also, as the entire world could be said to be the House of Horus, Hathor can be seen as the mother-goddess of the whole world, similar to Isis.

  • The Eye of Horus (Wedjat) (previously Wadjet and the Eye of the Moon; and afterwards as The Eye of Ra) or (“Udjat”) is an ancient Egyptian symbol of protection. Horus was an ancient Egyptian sky god in the form of a falcon. The right eye represents a Peregrine Falcon’s eye and the markings around it, that includes the “teardrop” marking sometimes found below the eye. As the wadjet (also udjat or utchat), it also represented the sun, and was associated with Horus’ mother, Isis, and with Wadjet another goddess, as well as the sun deity Re.
