A portrait of a beautiful white horse
An Akhal-teke horse, a breed famous for its golden colour, canters across a recently harvested wheat field.
A carousel is an amusement ride consisting of a rotating platform with seats, traditionally in the form of wooden horses or animals, for passengers which are often moved mechanically up and down to simulate galloping. This leads to one of the machine’s alternative names, the galloper. Other popular names are merry-go-round, roundabout and flying horses. Usually, music is looped while the rides spins.

I brought the cowboy, moon, trees and pond together just for fun. There’s a certain feeling a cowboy has when he is in the wilderness with just his horse and the sounds of crickets, a light breeze and a slow moving stream.

Taken at Appleby Horse Fair, after swimming across a deep pool in the river, the horse has just touched the bottom again and is trying to jump out of the water. Extra Note about the day, My daughter & 2 of her friends (all 15 year olds) went with me one year. The horses are brought down to the river to be washed and have fun in the water. The girls just stood around near the access point hoping to get involved, well this gypsy owner came down with 5 horses, looked at the girls keen faces and said take them in for me, so they jumped at the chance. All their clothes on straight in, it’s about 30cm deep at the access point then as you ride them round to the start of the deep hole, its 1m deep. Swimming across the deep hole gets them soaked up to the neck and more if you fall off. A fantastic time was had by them all, they were in the river for 2 hours but would not come out even though they were freezing. Lucky a said bring some spare clothes just in case you get to have a go.

I am First & Foremost a Writer but I do have skills in other genres of art This is one of my paintings I made a few years ago now (about 20 lol) It reminds me of my favouritre ride told in / A yarn for you – Karimba’s Ride- In my youth I had ridden trail horses so many times up a bush track like this (up & down Mt Olinda from Kilsyth, all around Beechworth & over the Bunyip Ridge), that when I stopped riding [& became “a responsible wife & mother” for everyone else] I missed it so much I had to paint it. This is a mixture of acrylic poster paints & left over house paint on a fine piece of old Particle Board [you know the kind from the bottom of an old drawer …. cos that’s where I got it from lol] So come for a ride with me? ...an escape from their stalls and paddock! With their eye-catching flaxen manes and tails flowing the two full brothers, Dewey and Lewey, gallop through the snow on a brisk winter afternoon. Dewey and Lewey are Haflinger ponies a breed that originated in Austria. Kind tempered, sturdy and workmanlike they have been described as ” a prince in front, a peasant behind” .

dreamstime, sxc.hu and three sky backs from night-fate-stock.deviantart.com “Ride Like the Wind” by Christopher Cross It is the night. My body’s weak. / I’m on the run. No time to sleep. / I’ve got to ride. Ride like the wind to be free again. / And I got such a long way to go. / To make it to the border of Mexico. / So I’ll ride like the wind. I was born the son of a lawless man. / Always spoke my mind with a gun in my hand. / Lived nine lives / gunned down ten. / Gonna ride like the wind. And I got such a long way to go. / To make it to the border of Mexico. / So I’ll ride like the wind. / Ride like the wind. / Ride like the wind. Accused and tried and told to hang / I was no where in sight / when the church bells rang. / Never was the kind to do as I was told. / Gonna ride like the wind before I get old. It is the night. Pastel on Canson paper (grey) – 50cm x 25cm (I think)! Another one from my archives!!!! High Country cattlemen in their ‘Drizabone’ coats, and it looks as though they needed them on a dreary, wet day! I usually use my own reference material, but I did something which I rarely do, and used an image I found in a newspaper. I feel so honoured that ‘Adgray’ has written an amazing poem / Mounted Rescue to compliment this painting!
