I just became a godfather. / I wasn’t entirely sure what to do, so I watched the movie, looking for some helpful advice. / The kid only sleeps in a really small bed, so a full-size horse obviously wasn’t going to do the trick – and besides this one seemed much more appropriate and available.

Last Thursday (20 Nov) I was working on an oil painting commission in the morning & decided to paint a couple of small acrylics in the afternoon (as I needed some new work to take to the gallery by Saturday.) For some reason I was thinking of Skyhorse’s beautiful / Appaloosas & this little painting was one of the results. / There is a characteristic love heart on the pony somewhere. The day was horrible, persistant rain and heavy showers ( I’ve been told there is a difference ) and blowing a gale. I noticed a break in the clouds on the horizon and took a gamble that it would clear around sunset. I high-tailed it up to the forest and was blessed, for once, with the most amazing lighting I’d ever seen. The New Forest pony was the icing on the cake as far as I was concerned. I used a Canon 20D and a Sigma 10-20mm lens. This was shot in Raw and processed using PS CS2. The processing was: change colour balance / levels / curves / slightly lighten the pony and land with an adjustment layer / sharpen / save This was taken in the New Forest National Park in Southern England.

This stallion is part of a large herd located in rural Southern Oregon.
