Speckled pony foal – I believed it was a Shetland pony, as it was with its mother at the time and she looked like a Shetland pony. However, the Shetland Pony experts in the UK have emailed me to tell me there is no such thing as spotted Shetlands so there we are! ;o) All I know is I just wanted to pick up the cute critter and take him home with me. New Forest, Hampshire, England.
Taken at a local Curly Horse Rescue Farm approximately three weeks after the birth of the foal. Information and other photos of Curly horses found here. They are absolutely STUNNING in winter, in full CURLS!
Drawn 2008. Age 21. Pencil only – 2H,HB,3B. Drawn on smooth bristol board. This is my first horse portrait. It was a commissioned drawing and the original belongs to a gentleman called. Mr. J. Eagles.
“Horses speak to the soul of Man in a language that requires no translation” / ~ Skye Ryan-Evans © ~ Featuring historic elements symbolizing the Spanish arrival in the Americas, the Carrack Pinto sailed to The New World by Christopher Columbus, old manuscripts referencing Queen Isabella of Spain, Hernando Cortez and the Warrior Horses brought by the Spaniards who first invaded and explored the Americas in the 15th and 16th centuries. The Alamo built in 1718 represents Texas and the Mexican Padres who bred the rare and pure-blood horses that descended directly from the earliest Spanish arrivals. “This amazing bloodline is also often referred to as American Barb, or sometimes SABAS, an acronym from the breeds that made up the line in Spain before hoof set to ground in the New World, representing: “Spanish, Arabian, Barb, Andalusian, Sorrai”“ Quoted from Texas-based / American Barb breeder. / Callie Heacock. 50% from all funds raised, benefit the caring Wiindcross Conservancy as they strive to protect America’s pure-blood Sorraia horses. On our way to the Blue Mts (west of Sydney NSW) over Christmas, we stayed in a Muswellbrook caravan park with horses up the back. Couldn’t resist getting out and about with camera in hand. I used the Smudge tool on the background a bit plus a soft diffuse glow. As you can see, he was in a paddock with junk lying everywhere – tin, tyres, bricks, pipes. Hence the background smudge here and there.
The day was horrible, persistant rain and heavy showers ( I’ve been told there is a difference ) and blowing a gale. I noticed a break in the clouds on the horizon and took a gamble that it would clear around sunset. I high-tailed it up to the forest and was blessed, for once, with the most amazing lighting I’d ever seen. The New Forest pony was the icing on the cake as far as I was concerned. I used a Canon 20D and a Sigma 10-20mm lens. This was shot in Raw and processed using PS CS2. The processing was: change colour balance / levels / curves / slightly lighten the pony and land with an adjustment layer / sharpen / save This was taken in the New Forest National Park in Southern England.

This painting is acrylic on gallery wrapped stretched canvas. It is 16”w x 20”h. The original painting sold in 2009. I have almost always lived in a town or city, but when I lived in New Mexico, we lived way out of town up a narrow canyon road. When you live way out in the country sometimes the full moon coming up over the horizon looks so huge that it looks as if it almost fills the sky. It’s so gorgeous it makes your heart skip a beat. This painting was inspired by those huge full moons that I saw so many years ago outside of that little stucco house up the canyon from Las Vegas, New Mexico.
This shot was taken near Englishtown, New Jersey. I added numerous texture layers, plus several other effects to make it look more like a painting. / /
