In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve been doing some work with fractals. I’ve thought they were pretty cool ever since I learned way back when that they are formed from mathematical equations. Art and science, you could say. Two of my favorite subjects. So I finally got around to figuring out how to create them, and you can see a few results of my experiment in my gallery. I’ve been using Chaoscope, and it’s basically just fiddle with some settings until something looks kinda interesting. I plan to learn more of the math behind the art, but if anyone has any suggestions on software or the artistic process of fractals, I would love to hear it! As always, feel free to comment and criticize! (And not that anyone would really care, but don’t worry, I’m not leaving photography behind, just expanding my horizons.)

Ok I had this idea! A Assignment of sorts… Have someone else hold a clear sheet in front of you which will sybolize your sheet of paper. They will draw on the sheet with their invisible pen. You follow what their hand is drawing with their invisible ink. You are blindly drawing what they are drawing Not looking at your paper only look to place your pencil on the paper where the other drawer starts. Now after you have filled or half filled your page with whatever meaningless scribbles look at it twist it around and figure out what you see. Now make it come to life by shading in with color or black and white. Last but not least give the picture a horizon day or night or indoors even. this is a method of releasing your inhibitions going back to childhood. But using all of your adult methods to bring your work to life… Good luck tell me how it went I would love to see your work! Any questions write me please… If you dont have a second person to draw just scribble on the page with out planning or looking at the page it has to be using your 3rd eye get it! Then bring it to life once again by using shading teqnique’s. Then add the background… Kimberly

I think there is a point in every budding photographer’s life where one takes stock of one’s gear, thinks “holy christ!” and decides to share it with the world. I am at one of those points. Behold! Taken with the 450D and the 28-105 f3.5-4.5 USM II (obviously not present in the shot).

Well, here I am at work and things are a little slow. I don’t have my pictures, I don’t have photoshop, I don’t have my camera, and I’m bored bored , and you guessed it…bored! There has to be a better way to spend my time than this, right? I could be walking the waterfront taking photographs, waiting for the perfect shot I just HAVE to have but taking anything and everything in the meantime. I could be on a long drive exploring new horizons looking for something fun or entertaining that just HAS to be captured. Am I right? Do you know what I mean? Are you sitting at work too wishing you could be off exploring with your camera? “SIGH”, guess It’ll just have to wait for another time, right now I have a letter to write…..Bye!

Not to be a downer but I can’t help but feel kinda bad this time of year for all those who won’t have much of a Christmas. Though it’s a joyful time of year for most of us, for some, it’s the hardest season; it’s hard to even get through it at all. Some are alone with no family or friends to celebrate the holidays with, some are homeless . . . some will die of starvation while others get stuffed with turkey and pumpkin pie. I ask myself, why is this fair? And my answer to my own question is, it’s not. It isn’t fair that people sleep on newspapers in alleys in our so-called civilized part of the world, with snot frozen to their faces and nothing to eat. It isn’t fair that some kids will wake up on Christmas morning to nothing under the tree, if they even have a tree at all, and it’s not fair that while I’m enjoying my family this holiday season, others, like I’ve said, have nobody at all to love or to love them. What can be done to change this world and make things fair? I don’t know. All I can do, I guess, is appreciate everyone and everything I’ve been blessed with, and not because I’m better than those who don’t have what I have. All I can do is remember that I’m not ‘entitled’ or somehow more important in the scheme of things than that ‘bum’ dying a cold, lonely death on the streets, or that little child dying of starvation in another part of this world. All I can do is hope that in some small way, I can cheer up somebody’s world, each and every day. Maybe that’s the key: if each of us made someone smile, each and every day, this world would become a much nicer, saner place. Maybe? Merry Christmas. / Nikki

It’s been a freezing cold few weeks in Melbourne, but I have managed to get out a few times to some nice locations. Although hoping for a miracle in light and composition at the back of my mind, I had been making sure that I don’t ruin my enjoyment by expecting too much. / My intention on one weekend, was to find a place in the Dandenong ranges near Melbourne to explore. Well I found a place called Sherbrooke forest. There is a waterfall buried an easy walking distance from the parking area and I was hoping to photograph it from its mossy green banks. Nothing goes quite to plan. The forest is your typical rainforest. Tall 100 metre trees, ferns etc…. very beautiful, but the waterfall is less than impressive. A small bridge is the only vantage point from which to view the small 45 degree angle which just classes as a waterfall hehhe. Anyway on the walk back feeling slightly dissappointed, to add to my misery it started to rain lightly. But then…the clouds parted and the light shone through just over the treelined horizon. Absolutely beautiful, sunrays lit up the misty rain giving the forest a primordial glow. Realising after a second, that yes, I do have a camera, and that maybe it might be a good idea to get a photograph, I whipped it out and started filling the CF card. / Finally the sun vanished beneath the horizon and I was left to ponder the contents of the black rectangle that held the bounty of images. After processing a few I eventually found one that had the quality I was after, & now it sits in my gallery waiting for some curious soul to take a look at Warning: shameless sales attempt follows and possibly buy. ‘Til next time / Happy Shooting Dave
