This is a shot of Anderson Ranch Reservoir taken this year in early Feb. At the end of the shot is Steel Mountain and sky. The sky is always different, but in this shot kind of plain. I added a new sky, making this a composite landscape. I used my Canon EOS, Rebel XT to take the shot. Shutter Speed 1/1000, F-stop and aperture value F/11, and Focal Length 49 mm.

  • The future is always beginning now. Mark Strand

  • Lake of Two Mountains, in the village of Oka Quebec, CANADA,taken on Saturday March 21st 2009 with Nikon D40, Nikkor VR 55-200mm lens. / The tracks you see carved into the ice in the foreground are made by the cars that pass daily on the “ice bridge” from one side of the shore to the other. This ice roadway is maintained by a private company, has been 100 years in existence and no accidents have ever happened. However, the day that we were there, we noted during the afternoon that several pools of water had emerged over top the ice in some places and we presume that was the last weekend of using the passage over the lake to get to the other side. • 3200 ISO is a brave new world for me. As a self confessed low ISO junkie, one who used Ektar 25 film whenever and wherever he could for many years because I wanted tight grain, the tighter the better, I would pull out all the stops I could to use that amazing ISO 25 film! For sure I’d never gone above ISO 1000 and then only to shoot indoor sporting events. Low ISO was(?) a hang-up for me! But I wanted to try astral photography and high ISO can get you there! However as we all know high ISO leads to increased noise which is something fairly new to me. You can use software and Photoshop plugins but I’ve been considering, one way to control noise would be to minimize or eliminate it by keeping the ISO as low as possible and that’s one way I‘m leaning. So in that regard it looks like a fast 50 prime is in order! It’s fun to be experimenting and learning, eh! Camera Model Canon EOS 50D / Tv( Shutter Speed ) 30 / Av( Aperture Value ) 3.5 / ISO Speed 3200 / Focal Length 18.0mm / Flash at 1/16 power and about 12 or 13 paper towels for diffusion. “One Night Under the Milky Way” was shot at Flamber Head on Newfoundland’s East Coast Trail For more information please visit Brian’s Homepage or on Flickr

  • Sutton Bank is a high vantage point at the very edge of the Hambleton Hills and the North York Moors with extensive views over the Vale of York and the Vale of Mowbray. Because of its location and high elevation, Sutton Bank is popular with gliding and flying enthusiasts. Predominant landmarks include Whitestone Cliff and Roulston Scar, the former overlooking the mysterious (and reputedly bottomless !) Lake Gormire. Close nearby are the villages of Sutton-under-Whitestonecliff, and Kilburn (famous for the White Horse of Kilburn, and Robert Thompson – the “Mouseman” of Kilburn). / Sutton Bank is one of the most spectacular inland cliffs anywhere in Britain, and carries one of the most hair-raising main roads in the country. The near vertical drop from top to bottom is around 140 metres, and crosses at least two major geological boundaries. / The Sutton Bank National Park Centre is on the western edge of the fabulous North York Moors National Park – home to the largest expanse of heather moorland in England. It provides the perfect introduction to the National Park, its people, history and wildlife. Nikon D60 / HDR in Photomatix & pp in PS CS3 / Lens: Nikkor 18-200mm / 1/160 f/9.0 ISO200
