I can assure you that tonight there is not a picture I’ve put up that means more to me than this one. It was difficult to adjust the focus as my tears were fogging up the viewfinder. Pulling them in with the 300 mm lense…I knew it was too dark out. I knew the pictures weren’t going to be technically “good”. / Both girls had come into the house crying earlier in the evening. Trembling… bruised.. grass stained. They had made a sharp turn with the 4-wheeler and flipped it at the end of our driveway. All of our kids have been driving this four wheeler since they were about seven years old. Lately I’ve watched the girls grow more daring. More bold. Our warnings to “slow down” and “stay in the yard” began to carry less weight in the lightness of their own sense of immortality. Aside from some minor “road rash” they are essentially unharmed. / Thank God. It was a typical friday in Fall in many ways: Indian summer weather with a blazing orange sunset and harvest moon. Our family of six, spread out now as the kids grow older. My oldest boy working at the grocery store in town. My other son playing at a football game in a town an hour away. My husband bringing the hay in from the alfalfa field as the sun touches the horizon. And me with my camera watching my girls and our two dogs race up and down the driveway in youthful exhuberance. Every night when I lay my head down on my pillow at night… I know I wont’ sleep until the last one has walked in the door. I worry about them driving. I worry about them getting injured in sports. I worry about their grades. I worry about their wrecklessness. I worry that they don’t sleep enough, eat enough, study enough. What mother doesn’t. Right? I’ve seen a lot of kids carried off the football field. Every game I pray that it won’t be mine. My husband works with the Sheriff’s Department on weekends in a college town. Lots of drinking and partying. Lots of stories about kids in car wrecks. I pray every time they turn the key to go somewhere. And all my life I’ve grown up hearing stories of farm accidents. We all grew up around the tractors and 4-wheelers and dirt bikes. My kids are no different. As I watched the girls skipping up the driveway tonight, I knew that one prayer in particular had been answered today: / God, please keep them safe. / I know this is long. But if you have kids, (or really just anyone you love!)............... I hope this will remind you to pull them closer. / /

I feel a strong presents of Khonsu in this painting who was the Egyptian god of the moon. The meaning of his name is wanderer which refers to the path of the moon across the sky; and he was the navigator of human destinies. The healing abilities of Khonsu were powerful in Egypt and people from surrounding territories would invoke him to cleanse them from their inner conflicts. There is an account that a a statue of Khonsu was used to drive a demon from the body of a Syrian princess. Her grateful father then returned the statue to Egypt together with rich offerings to the god for his service. / This is a time for renewal and regeneration. If you have expended too much energy plotting, planning and attempting to control the course of your life then you need to redress the balance by becoming spontaneous. There are certain time when you will only progress if you are willing to take a spontaneous leap into the unknown, and this is one of them. The past in over; the future is not yet within your grasp; all you have to play with is the fun and freedom of the present. Try and remember that Khonsu is both a wanderer and a navigator; so your route, although free and unrestricted, is never without its own divine plan. A week after receiving a ‘deeksha blessing’, I kept envisioning this same symbol, over and over again, so yesterday I decided to attempt drawing it, photographed the drawing then began playing with it in photoshop7 and redfield plug-in fractilius. After finishing the piece, my curiosity got the better of me and I began searching to see if there was a meaning behind it… Turns out that it is one of eight “Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism” or Ashtamangala, associated with the physical form of Buddha. The endless knot or shrivatsa (sanskrit) is a closed, graphic ornament composed of right angled, intertwined lines. It is conjectured that it may have evolved from an ancient naga symbol with two stylized snakes. / It signifies a dramatic interplay/interaction of the opposing forces in a dualistic world of manifestation, leading to their union and ultimately to harmony in the Universe. This fact is amply reflected in the symmetrical and regular form of the endless knot. The intertwining of lines reminds us how all phenomena are conjoined and yoked together as a closed cycles of cause and effect. Thus the whole composition is a pattern that is closed on in itself with no gaps, leading to representational form of great simplicity and fully balanced harmony. Since all phenomena are interrelated, the placing of the endless knot on a gift or greeting card is understood to establish an auspicious connection between the giver and the recipient. At the same time, the recipient is goaded to righteous karma, being reminded that future positive effects have their roots in the causes of the present. This is because the knot represents a connection, a link with our fates, binding us to our karmic destiny. Not surprisingly, this is one of the most favorite symbols of Tibetan Buddhism, and often occurs independently on its own. Since the knot has no beginning or end it also symbolizes the infinite wisdom of the Buddha.
