Blue Man misses home.
Just having a bit of fun with Bob.
I think he is an Indonesian worker sitting there looking at the other side of the Strait of Melacca (Indonesia’s Sumatra & Malaya Peninsula is separated by the strait). I guess he was missing his homeland, Sumatra. Unofficial statistic had shown that there are around few millions (figure include the illegal worker) Indonesian work in Malaysia. I am not sure whether he was the legal or illegal. But if is not the difficulty life, who want to leave their homeland? I think the lonely tree in the sea enhanced his lonely mood. For the Dylan lovers out there.
this was greatly inspired by the recent works of www.silentshudder.com / A photography I have collaborated with on a number of photographic challenges. His style and eye for natural elements has taught me so much in discovering shadows. / Model is: / www.modelmayhem.com/822943
An image inspired by Robert Schumann’s musical piece of the same name…it more or less describes a yearning for home…”Home is where the heart is and the mind forever wanders,” as the saying goes…a particularly dark period of my life which produced something of worth…I hope.

Oil on canvas, 40”x30”

This is a piece that I have been working on and off for a bit over 2 years. I finished it a little less than a year ago. I started it as a way to combat my homesickness having just moved out of my beautiful family home to study at university. At the time I felt like I was changing, growing up and away from the things (like painting) that I loved. The painting kind of morphed into a crazy positive painting as I grew to accept whatever change came my way and to take responsibility for what I want to do in my own time. It was almost like a streaming of my consciousness, of my favourite things, ideas, items that make me happy. As for details, it’s about 100 cm by 120 cm (approx 40” by 47”) and it’s done in acrylics on stretched canvas.

This was a little more work in post than I’m used to… took the original shot at the zoo, and he just looked so sad. Of course, the tear was added later…not sure if meerkats can cry… also tried out a few different lighting effects to really give it the mood I was after.

In a fit of nostalgia remembering my heritage, and seeing and hearing the English spirit. / Land of hope and glory, Elgar Dear Land of Hope, thy hope is crowned. / God make thee mightier yet! / On Sov’reign brows, beloved, renowned, / Once more thy crown is set. / Thine equal laws, by Freedom gained, / Have ruled thee well and long; / By Freedom gained, by Truth maintained, / Thine Empire shall be strong. Land of Hope and Glory, Mother of the Free, / How shall we extol thee, who are born of thee? / Wider still and wider shall thy bounds be set; / God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet. / God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet. Thy fame is ancient as the days, / As Ocean large and wide: / A pride that dares, and heeds not praise, / A stern and silent pride: / Not that false joy that dreams content / With what our sires have won; / The blood a hero sire hath spent / Still nerves a hero son.
When I moved from Indiana this past May to live with Tim in Danville, Illinois, I became very homesick. As I walked along outside one day, looking down, I was surprised to find this brick in our front walk. It is now officially “my” brick. I looked this company up online and here’s what I found, if anyone is interested: “The oldest paving-brick plant in the state is the Indiana Paving Brick Co. of Brazil. The first vitrified brick and block were made by the company in 1891, and three years later it furnished the material for the first street paving in Brazil. The product since that time has reached proportions that are not readily comprehended in mere figures, and from the beginning this has been more than a local industry. Many cities and towns of the state have their streets paved with the bricks made at this plant, and the product has gone by train-loads to Louisville, Cincinnati and other cities beyond the state borders. / The plant is in the western part of the city just north of the Vandalia Railroad. The raw material was formerly obtained altogether from the shale deposits near the intersection of the C. & E. I. Railroad.”
This is of home, Omaio the place i grew up. I guess adding it here would make ME less homesick. Its been edited a little and i put the border around, otherwise not much at all has been done to it. Enjoy
It was beautiful weather but windy and cold when I ventured out to Garður, a little village on Reykjanes peninsula. I knew from experience that there were always some horses outside and it was my aim to take some photographs of our beautiful Icelandic horse.
When I was living overseas for three years I suffered terribly from homesickness for nearly the first year. After that, although I settled into our wonderful new life and loved every minute of it, I still dreamed of our beautiful grey green eucalypts. I missed them so much, I found myself often drawing them, particularly their elegant, long and languid leaves…so perfectly designed and balanced. When we returned home my heart leapt when I saw my first one in three years. I was truly home at last!
