June 26th How excited I am! Tomorrow is my birthday, and my sisters have told me that Papa will be arriving first thing, and that he has a very special treat in store for me. Naturally since learning of this, I have been at pains to discover what awaits me. Yet to my utter dismay, when I try to interrogate my sisters , they will only say that they are sworn to secrecy, then glance at one another and burst into infuriating giggles. I feel that if I am to succeed in my endeavour to extract the necessary information before morning, I must first get to each of them separately, then use all the cunning and ingenuity inherited from my beloved father. What springs immediately to mind, is to adopt the guile of one of Nature’s predators and pursue the weaker of the pack. Knowing as I do of Audrey’s great fondness for fruit bonbons, I shall arm myself with said items, and make my way to her bedchamber this very evening. Let us see how long her lips remain sealed when such delightful confection is offered in exchange for her secrets!

Taken inside an historical turn-of-the-century home at Ft. Bridger, Montana. The way the light from the window illuminated the bottle on the table was just too much for me to resist :-) To me, it was reminiscent of the Dutch masters.

One of the small buildings in the grounds of Oceania House, Cocos Islands. Now privately owned, the property was home to several generations of the Clunies-Ross family, who initiated the trade of coconuts, coconut oil and copra. The plantations were worked by the Cocos-Malay people who remain a unique, isolated community.

Part of a (now not so short) series of images taken in an authentic and derelict church manse (Abbey) in Glebe, Sydney. It was located on the same piece of land as the original Church (which was also disused). These shots were taken during two visits – the second and last visit spooked me so much I’ll not be going back…the stairwell was just incredible – its on the left (this is downstairs).

Castle Howard has been the home of part of the Howard family for more than 300 years. There is a large formal garden immediately behind the house. This capture shows one of several follies and eyecatchers in the form of fortifications. A John Vanbrugh ornamental pillar known as the Quatre Faces stands in nearby Pretty Wood.
