A couple of years ago, I designed this image and sent it to family and friends as a Christmas greeting. The photo is of a stained glass window in a lovely old Catholic church in southern Louisiana.
The image was taken in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre Jerusalem. / The image shows The Stone of the Anointing. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is a Christian church within the walled Old City of Jerusalem. The site is venerated by most Christians as Golgotha, (the Hill of Calvary), where the New Testament says that Jesus was crucified, and is said to also contain the place where Jesus was buried (the sepulchre). The church has been an important pilgrimage destination since at least the 4th century, as the purported site of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus. Today it also serves as the headquarters of the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem. Just inside the entrance is The Stone of Anointing, believed to be the spot where Jesus’ body was prepared for burial by Joseph of Arimathea. It is the 13th Station of the Cross. The lamps that hang over the stone are contributed by Armenians, Copts, Greeks and Latins.

The Priestly Blessing, (Hebrew: Birkat Kohanim), also known in Hebrew as Nesiat Kapayim, (lit. Raising of the Hands), is a Jewish prayer recited by Kohanim during certain Jewish services. It is based on a scriptural verse: “They shall place My name upon the children of Israel, and I Myself shall bless them.” It consists of the following Biblical verses (Numbers 6:24-26): May the Lord bless you and guard you. / May the Lord shine His countenance toward you and be gracious to you. / May the Lord lift up His countenance toward you and give you peace. The source of the text is Numbers 6:23-27, where Aaron and his sons bless the Israelites with this blessing. This is the oldest known Biblical text that has been found; amulets with these verses written on them have been found in graves in dating from the First Temple Period, and are now in the Israel Museum, Jerusalem. Various interpretations of these verses connect them to the three Patriarchs; Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, or to three attributes of God; Mercy, Courage, and Glory. I shot the image during Birkat Kohanim at the Western Wall Jerusalem, Passover April 22 2008. / It’s a new tradition that every Passover there is a mass ceremony of Birkat Chohanim in the Wstern Wall. featured in the following groups: / Art of the Middle East / Bagels and Lox – Jewish themed art and writing / ImageWriting / Happy Haven Photography / Dimensions / All Street Portraiture & Photography

O holy night, the stars are brightly shining; / It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth! / Long lay the world in sin and error pining, / Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth. / A thrill of hope, the weary soul rejoices, / For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn. / Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices! / O night divine, O night when Christ was born! / O night, O holy night, O night divine! Led by the light of faith serenely beaming, / With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand. / So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming, / Here came the wise men from Orient land. / The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger, / In all our trials born to be our Friend! / He knows our need—to our weakness is no stranger. / Behold your King; before Him lowly bend! / Behold your King; before Him lowly bend! Truly He taught us to love one another; / His law is love and His Gospel is peace. / Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother / And in His Name all oppression shall cease. / Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we, / Let all within us praise His holy Name! / Christ is the Lord! O praise His name forever! / His pow’r and glory evermore proclaim! / His pow’r and glory evermore proclaim! Words by Placide Cappeau; translated from French to English by John S. Dwight (1812-1893). Created in xenoDream; lettering and lens flare added in Photoshop.
mixed media on canvas 24” x 20” i made this piece when i was in the beginning of a 5 year relationship…. much love and awe going on. the creation began with newspaper on canvas. i have always loved the colors in the grocery store adds… and all the fruit. i don’t remember having a plan for this piece as is usually the case. it appeared to me. as you can see, most of the newsprint is painter over…except the apple and the space around it that forms the eye. the pink and stripes and a few changes on the male character came more recently….after we separated. i have a picture of it before. maybe it should go on red bubble, too. i celebrated when i sold the original for 1200 dollars. the relationship was over and i felt it appropriate that it find a new home …...and it did. it lives in california now. partnership as sacred…...

Saraswati is the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, and the arts. Every word we utter, every poem we write, every single one of our creations is a gift from Her. I did this original piece of multi-media art on April 6, 2003 on Bristol Strathmore paper with pen & ink and colored pencil. Highlights were done in metallic pen. Then, the image was cut out and mounted on colored paper. This is a personal and special piece done for the modern day Hindu saint and my spiritual mother, Sri Karunamayi Ma, known as Amma to her children. Jai Ma!

Acrylic and impasto on flat canvas board. Original has been sold. I had a dream not so long ago where someone showed me a photo of an image of the Holy Mother and that someone went on to be shocked that She looked just like me. In my dream I responded with resignation and complete surrender to the Holy Mother as I said “because She is in me and I am in Her”. I felt an entirely new love for the Holy Mother after this dream. I’ve had many, many spiritual dreams and each and every one are worth more to me than all the riches of the world. This is one such dream that I wanted to share. I love Her and She loves me…and She loves all God’s children :o) / /
