On rare occasions the lighting falls so that cloister lights up, I have been trying to catch it for a few years now and this is the first time the light fell right for me. / All the colours are there and that red door just lift the image.

“Prayer” was featured in the groups / Statues and Such / Prize Challenges!! * / *Core [C.O.R.E] / and First Things 572 views, 15 favoritings (10 November 2009) The photo of this marvellous statue was taken in the Bell Tower of the Crystal Cathedral, Garden Grove, Orange County, California. This is a small circular prayer chapel in which you find a ring of 33 marble pillars, lining the wall… (33 for the years that Christ lived – I found out on the Internet). In the center you find a prayer altar with this rotating acrylic sculpture of Christ. There is a light that comes up through the sculpture, and at some angles it breaks into all the colors of the rainbow. Canon PowerShot S5 IS, 1/15 s, f/2.7, f/2.7

Last summer there was this crazy metallic green bee hanging around my garden. It was intersting because it hardly moved… I know it wasn’t dead because it walked around the flower it was on… but I went inside to get my extension tubes and a half an hour later it was still there. I don’t know what type of bug/bee it is… but I love it’s coloring! Enjoy!

The holy city of Safed, perched on a mountain top in the upper Galilee, conjures many images to all lovers of the city. The romantic flavor of narrow cobblestone lanes and ancient synagogues fills one’s lungs with a new spirit. The rusty old houses with there domed roofs clearly identifies the city with the mysterious past of the Holy Land. The history of Safed, in real terms, dates back only five hundred years to the beginning of the 16th century. As if out of nowhere, Jews from near and far settled there – as if answering a divine call – and built the largest Jewish settlement in Palestine. Furthermore, great scholars and mystics opened yeshivos in Safed, being an added incentive to other young men of wisdom to settle there. In one sense, the last half of the 16th century was the pinnacle of Torah grandeur which the city experienced. The author of the Shulchan Aruch (Jewish Code of Laws), Rabbi Joseph Karo, sat at the head of the rabbinical court while compiling his compendium of Jewish Law. At the same time, another saintly man by the name of Rabbi Isaac Luria revealed the mystical side of the Torah, called Kabalah. Together these men and their disciples opened new pathways to the Torah which embedded an invisible holiness in the very rocks of the city. Today everyone who strolls through the city is caught off guard by the hidden spirit of Safed which vibrates full of life after so many generations. Beverley Minster, East Yorkshire, UK. Beverley Minster, in Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire is a parish church in the Church of England. It is generally regarded as the most impressive (architecturally speaking) church in England that is not a cathedral. / Originally a collegiate church, it was not selected as a bishop’s seat during the Dissolution of the Monasteries; nevertheless it survived as a parish church, and the chapter house was the only major part of the building to be lost. It is part of the Greater Churches Group and a Grade 1 Listed building. / The Minster owes its origin and much of its subsequent importance to St John of Beverley, who founded a monastery locally around 700 AD and whose bones still lie beneath a plaque in the nave. The institution grew after his death and underwent several rebuildings. After a serious fire in 1188, the subsequent reconstruction was overambitious; the newly heightened central tower collapsed c. 1213 bringing down much of the surrounding church. Another image of Lindisfarne Castle, again the lighting is by full moonlight with a single exposure of 477 seconds (Bulb setting with shutter release) at f/11.0 ISO 400, Sigma 12-24mm at 12mm. The distant lights to the left are Holy Island and the orange/pink glow on the horizon to the right are the distant lights of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Taken on a winters evening in February the temperature was minus 3-4 degrees and a biting wind! EOS 1D MkIII

September 22, 2009. Best seen on full size This sweet little church, at the corner of Triadelphia and Sharp Roads in Glenelg, Maryland, stands empty. Probably built around 1900, it was most recently used as the home and studio of a local artist who has since gone to live in the sunnier climate of Mexico. Happily, the congregation of this beautiful little chapel didn’t die out, as so often happens, but instead grew too large for this structure and built a much larger church not far down the road. I was quite excited to have the opportunity to tour here July 26, 2009 when the realtor was holding an open house, as I’d driven past many times and had always wanted to investigate!! Image taken with the handheld Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens, shutter 1/250, aperture f/8.0, exp -.33, iso 500. Post work included hdr from 4 images at +3, +1, 0 and -2 evals … all duplicated and adjusted in Photoshop. Subsequent Orton technique was applied in PS, as were three textures at various blendings, and the brushed-in clouds. Included below is a capture of one of the windows in which, if you look carefully, you can see a reflection of the church bell … / which was directly behind me as I shot the window … My thanks to Princess of Shadows on Deviant Art and Ghostbones of Flickr for the great textures and to Obsidian Dawn for the cloud brushes.

Sacre Coeur, Paris. The amazingly original basilica is located in Montmartre, leading to the highest point of Paris city. First constructed in 1875, it was not completed until 1914, due to a problematic law system that almost stopped construction entirely. Only saved by a loophole, construction finally continued to the end. I didn’t get to spend as much time here as I would normally like to, but the climb to the top of the tower was worth it for the incredible view of the city below. Original shot layered twice, with 3 textures, colour altering of each layer, blending of layers, further colour altering and an omni light effect. Featured with the group Deer Me Nov 2009 Featured with the group Healing Through Art Dec 2009 Something about this image drew me in as I pondered on it, recalling the moments when the photo was taken. It was cold that day as I lay on my chest aiming my camera up in wonder at the beauty before me. The snow shower tinkled about me as I focused my camera thru the viewfinder fogging over in my misty breath. Even then I felt the hint of something ‘over and above’ me, as a presence gathering me up into a desire for peace and serenity. I felt me relaxing into the cold as I gave myself over to that desire for tranquility, and then I felt it grow. My hand was shaking as I fired off the frame and I wondered at the cause. Was the chill getting to me or was I in the throes of something else? I realized that though I lay in a bed of snow, I was far from cold, or perhaps it comes closer to say that I was not the least bit concerned. I had walked a long way thru ice and snow; my camp was even farther still from help. Strange warmth welled up from deep within my chest melting the possibility of threat, and I simply knew that all was well in my little world. And so as I studied the image before me, I noticed how the background light conspired to seemingly demarcate what had occurred that day on such subtle feeling levels of experience. The words of the Misty Edwards song “Light of Your Face” started playing in my mind, “…Let the light of your face shine down on my heart and let me feel it….For I live only to see your face so shine on me…” As I remembered, the feeling welled up in me, as if to say, “I am here always, not just a memory of what was, but as a reality to be chosen, right here, right now.” / ____ / ©Miles A Moody LivingEarth-Hearthealing.com.
