Featured In: / -Still Life And Food Photography / -Berries, Fruits And Seeds / -Layered With Texture Still Life seems to have captured my attention lately. I’ve been pouring through information on lighting and still life composition….there’s a lot to learn. But of course that’s one of the things about photography that’s so much fun—there’s always something new to learn! :-D HollyCawfieldPhotography
Featured In: / -Layered With Texture / -Still Life Photography My kitchen is starting to look like a fruit market as I continue practicing with still life. Today the strawberries are photographed and tonight they’re dessert. :-D HollyCawfieldPhotography

My most sincere thanks to bidkev who nominated this photograph for the Pay It Forward Group. He wrote: “Her work is amazing……….........beautifully lit and composed with a style that will never age. Simply gorgeous! Please take a look at her portfolio.” Kev, I am truly honoured with this wonderful comment and your nomination to the Pay It Forward group. Thank you! Please look at bidkev’s beautiful portfolio….you’ll be glad you did!! / bidkev Enduring Roses Featured In: / -Fabulous Flowers / -Layered With Texture Enduring Roses – Challenge Won / Still Life With A Twist – Nostalgic Art and Photography Henri Matisse said, “There is nothing more difficult for a truly creative painter than to paint a rose, because before he can do so he has first to forget all the roses that were ever painted.” I rather think the same could be said for photographing roses. HollyCawfieldPhotography
Featured In: / -Still Life And Food Photography / -Fabulous Flowers The roses that were my Valentine’s gift have dried and the pottery vase from my daughter has just been waiting for the right ‘something’ to fill it. My plan with these photographs of my daughter’s pottery is to photograph as many of her pieces as possible before they’ve all been given away so she’ll have a record of her work. I’ve mentioned before that I find roses difficult to photograph. Well, dried roses are even worse! LoL The camera picks up every very dry area and makes a spectacular blown-out highlight. You wouldn’t think a photograph of roses would be accompanied by some rather awful growling noises on the part of the photographer but maybe those growls added some texture. :-D HollyCawfieldPhotography
Featured In: / -Happy Haven-Photography / -Nostalgic Art And Photography When I was very young I developed a love for all things antique. At Christmas, when I was fourteen, my parents gave me this jug and wash basin for a gift and I was absolutely thrilled about it. I set this up on the floor by a window where the light was flooding in through lace curtains which filtered the light in a rather dappled way. By North American standards I live in a very old house and if you look closely you can see the tiny nails in the hardwood floor which was the way it was installed so long ago. There are thousands of those tiny nails in little rows in the floors here….it makes my knees sore just thinking about the fellow who had to hammer them all! :-) HollyCawfieldPhotography
Featured In: / -Still Life And Food Photography / -Nostalgic Art And Photography / -The Woman Photographer / -Happy Haven-Photography I’ve had my eye on this little pitcher for a couple of weeks wanting to use it in a still life. It’s rather old and just a pretty little piece of china I’ve had for a long time. The grocery store I go to quite often has one of the best and most diverse florist shops in the city so the temptation to get these violets was just to great to resist and I thought they might make an interesting photo with all those ruffled edges. I’ve kept this shot deliberately soft because it’s a girley kind of photo. :-) HollyCawfieldPhotography
Featured In: / -Layered With Texture I bought these tulips with the intention of doing a still life but once I set everything up I was fascinated by the variations in the petals. So instead of the set up I had planned I pulled out a different lens (macro) and decided to just photograph the flowers themselves. There’s something so cheery about tulips in the house while there’s snow outside….they’re a wonderful reminder that spring will be here soon. HollyCawfieldPhotography
The pottery series continues. After a visit to my daughter’s, I came home with quantities of it to photograph. She’s obviously a trusting soul….I think she expects me to return it. :-)
