I have been inspired by Warren Anthony Williams to have a go at this window effect, so here it is. / This was a number of images that I took whilst at Hokitika in New Zealands South Island. / A small drive inland will bring you to the Gorge with it’s crystal blue water. / ( This is as it is with NO enhancements. Just a little cropping. ) / ( taken with a Panasonic Lumix FZ30 P & S, and then compiled on Picasa3 ) ===================

Hokitika Gorge in NZ I was absolutely stunned at the colour of the water in the river. Donate 100% of profit from the sale of this image to Pet Rescue /

  • Hokitika Sentinel
    by Mathew Russell

    US$3.99–US$91.20

All along the west coast of NZ, the beaches are battered by some of the most brutal weather imaginable. It is impossible to say how long this root base had been swept along the coast, but it must have been an immense, magnificent tree. It’s journey continues…

Hokitika River at the Gorge seen through trees. The photo is untouched, the water was this beautiful colour. /

Hokitika River through trees. This beautiful water is naturally coloured and has not been enhanced. /

  • This shot was taken in Hokitika in New Zealand. There was many places to sit down on a piece of wood like being in own living room and just enjoy the sea and this endless beach. From Wellington I found this guy called Barry Bailey who made amazing figures from driftwood. In case you ever travel there go to 110 Randwick Road. There should be gigant driftwood statues stading right at the front of the shop :-) (updated 03.05.2009) / - fine tuning

  • Hokitika Gorge Canoeist
    by skyhorse

    US$3.99–US$91.20

Our B&B host told us we MUST visit Hokitika Gorge on our way from Greymouth to Franz Josef, we got lost taking a wrong turn (road signs are dreadful but worth the effort in the end). Can I say this place has a “Wow” factor of 10/10, my photos don’t do it true justice. The turqoise water colour is NATURAL and the cloudier the day, the deeper the water colour (it’s something to do with the composition of therock base of the river). I snapped this shot of a canoeist who planned to traverse the gorge to the coast about 10km away. I was rather taken with his fluro orange canoe contrasting with the water. Pentax Optio E20

  • Lake Ianthe
    by ardwork

    US$3.99–US$91.20

A morning shot at Lake Ianthe on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand . It makes us want to jump in the car, on the bike or strap on a backpack to find these idyllic spots and set up the camp to spend some time in the natural beauty that NZ has to offer. Lake Ianthe is just off highway 6 north of Harihari, between Franz Joseph Glacier and Hokitika, if you feel like taking a look yourself.

  • Down the Gorge

Here is a shot of the beautiful Hokitika Gorge looking the opposite way to the canoe photo – awesome view, amazing colour. If you ever go to New Zealand, put this on your itinerary!

  • Bridge over the River Gorge
    by skyhorse

    US$3.99–US$91.20

OK, there is a downside to Hokitika Gorge (for some of us, anyway) – the swing bridge is the only place to get those views … When I was about 4yo, the parents loaded us into the car for the grand tourist trip down the West Coast. Since around that time, I’ve had a FEAR of swing bridges (go figure). Within minutes of laying eyes on this bridge last March, I knew this was THE cause of my fear. Not only that, but to get decent photos, I had to face that fear. It bounced, it jiggled, it swayed under my feet – if it didnt make things worse, I would have run away! But the colour of the water, oh I had to capture it, fear was as nothing in the face of my need to take photos. You have been warned!

  • Hokitika Valley
    by Will Hore-Lacy

  • I thought that the contrast between the church, the sky, and the mountains was particularly beautiful on this day. I have a color shot, as well, and it’s not nearly no striking.

  • Located in Hokitika beach in New Zealand. “This reconstruction of the schooner Tambo stands as a memorial to the 42 ships wrecked while trying to cross the Hokitika bar. The Tambo was beached on the south spit on 12th November 1866. The crew then secured her to an old anchor found buried in the sand. However, a fearsome tide and strong river currents forced the anchored ship out to sea again. Both the wrecked ship and the anchor were eventually washed up on the beach south of Ruatapu.” Info source: / http://www.hokitika.org/arts/heritage-culture.aspx
