I now struggle with the decision of buying the Canon 10-22mm lens for my Canon 400D that I’ve had my eye on for sometime or saving up for the 50D and saying goodbye to the lens for a while longer. Hmmmmmmmm decisions decisions lol. / / Cheers, / Kevin

If you live in New Zealand in the North Island and aren’t wanting to stalk me down to kill me, I might see you there some time. I think sometimes, we get so wrapped up and try to let everyone know how much we appreciate their comments and favoring our work. We just hit the reply back link, and keep on going. Instead of clicking the link on the person who left the comment. Giving them the same chance they gave us by looking into our portfolio. Well I am very glad I didnt hit that reply button, because had I, I would have missed some beautiful shots of Alaska and the surrounding area. I would have missed a talent who has been here since June of 2008. And I would have missed the reminder of just how important my eyes are to my passion…Photography. I’d like to introduce everyone that reads this to Jan Timmons She has some amazing work, some I think everyone will enjoy. / So I hope when you have the time, you can pay her alittle visit. I am sure she will appreciate.

An RB Community initiative Hit me with your best shot...

An RB Community initiative Hit me with your best shot is happening right now for photographers on RB…..a place to inspire and be inspired…. an opportunity to post a journal entry with your favourite photo and the story that goes with it….i’ve posted mine / over here Why don’t you too!!!! Here’s my best photograph and image, my husband shot this, and i photoshopped it…...it’s a sculpture of mine…it’s very big….you can see the footprints if you squint, gives you the idea of the size of it… Sea Star Sculpture Wategos Beach Byron Bay / _My best shot is this one above, it captures not only a stone seastar sculpture, but the memory of the day it was created. We were all there, my family and I…they were swimming, I was daydreaming on the beach, when some stones caught my eye, they were as big as my foot some of them…and others like pebbles, all lovely variations of colour….I found myself in a dream, creating this sculpture completely unintentioned…..just before we left to go home, my husband said we should take a snapshot…..i am too short to get it all in the frame, so he being the taller one, snaps the shot for me….i’ll never forget that day at Byron Bay…. Forgotten Beach this song reminds me of this day no comments necessary, just make sure you go and post your best photo here

Nat’s kicked off a challenge over here So a question for all our talented photographers … what’s the photo you’re most proud of and why? These kind of stories would make a great journal entry so if you’ve got some spare time in the next few days, why not tell us about yours? Well here are two that I love. This is Cradle Mountain – a serene park in Tasmania. I’m not a morning person but on this morning I willed myself to rise early and was rewarded with a morning of quiet magnificence. For me this image takes me back to that time and place. It takes me away from grime and chaos. It takes me to a place of quiet simplicity – and the soul needs these places of rest. The second image is completely personal and probably gratuitous … it’s an image of unbridled joy. This image was taken on a beach near San Francisco at sunset. Every time I see this image I’m reminded of the joy of the innocent … the celebration of life that children can show their parents.

Dayum! I’m gonna have that song in my head ALL day now… Looking for a little fun and inspiration? Nat has pinched the keys to the community account and has all sorts of little gems and challenges she is going to be sharing with us over the coming weeks/months. So my advice would be if you haven’t watchlisted the community account yet you best get cracking or you will be missing out! Kicking it off is Hit me with your best shot. Nat writes… So a question for all our talented photographers … what’s the photo you’re most proud of and why? These kind of stories would make a great journal entry so if you’ve got some spare time in the next few days, why not tell us about yours? This one was a little bit tricky for me, as there are a lot of my images that I am proud of for one reason or another… but in the end, after much deliberation including bucketloads of ummm-ing and ahhh-ing, it came down to this. Too Precious Too Lose was a collaborative entry with the emminently talented and very funny Billyboy for the Gaia- The Living Planet competition. For those of you who don’t know him, Billyboy lives in Belgium… practically the opposite time zone to me here in Australia so a collaboration of this magnitude was a logistical nightmare! When I was awake, he was asleep, when he was awake, I was asleep. So I found myself burning the midnight oil on many occaisions if I had a question that I needed answered right now if not yesterday! I also admit to sending many mental prods to BB across the oceans that went along the lines of “GET OUT OF BED NOW YOU LAZY BUGGER!” giggles The background was created by BB… a masterpiece in and of itself. I then sent him individual images that were carefully placed within the bubbles. BB would render the images and send them back to me whereupon I would hand place and size each individual bubble to create the diminishing spiral. The thinking behind the creation of this piece is that I wanted to illustrate by using BB’s Noah’s Ark image that if we don’t start taking care of this planet we are living on I truly believe we will be in for a disaster of biblical proportions. All that is beautiful and wondrous will simply disappear… like so many ephemeral bubbles. We are all interconnected, and we must find our harmony with Gaia, or risk losing it all. Too Precious Too Lose didn’t find a place in the Gaia book, but it certainly found a very special place in my heart. The experience of collaborating with someone on the other side of the world to create this image is something I will never forget. BB and I poured our hearts and souls into this image and had a bucketload of fun along the way, which makes it a winner for me. And seeing peoples reactions, and hearing their thoughts and comments when this work is exhibited is such a kick. I would love to see which image you feel is your “best shot” and read the reasons behind it. So if you have a few spare moments, write up a journal, tag it with best shot (so Nat can find it) and drop me a link here.

Nat’s kicked off a challenge over here / / So a question for Red Bubble’s talented photographers … what’s the photo you’re most proud of and why? These kind of stories would make a great journal entry so if you’ve got some spare time in the next few days, why not tell us about yours? / / Not an easy thing, to choose one image over all others as a favorite. / I love taking random shots of just about anything but it’s those shots that have been manifesting inside my head for months and when they eventually come out as envisioned, well that kinda makes my month!! :D / / Born From This Earth & Taken By the Wind / / / / This image began its journey about four months before its capture, when a small group of us went up to Aradale Assylum (much love to Melissa Kirkham for her organisation skills). / It was a couple of days after my original trip up to Aradale that I went to Spotlight and purchased 6 meters of red satin and blue satin, I already knew what I wanted to see. / I had the wonderful fortune that Bronwen Hyde was also going up to Aradale and agreed to spend some creative time with me and my metal duct, Born From This Earth idea! / She has that beautiful and intense gaze that I knew would be perfect for this kind of image and I was rapt when she said “Yeah, I’ll get in that thing!!” :D / I can remember using an off camera flash and practising throwing the satin and setting off the camera shutter remotely for at least an hour! / Thank heavens that Bronwen’s friend Karen helped out with throwing the red satin, so I could just concentrate on the camera. / Now, how many shots do you think it took before this particular shot prevailed? Hmmm? / I’ll let you guess for a little while! / / The series Born From This Earth is now completed. It metaphorically evokes deep and sometimes playful visions and emotions and has been in development since August 2008.

Nat asked: So a question for all our talented photographers … what’s the photo you’re most proud of and why? These kind of stories would make a great journal entry so if you’ve got some spare time in the next few days, why not tell us about yours? I replied: I’m proud of the photo below, Interstate 80, because it’s reminiscent of my New York work, but takes place ten years later near my new home in Northern California. The photograph solidifies a change that I am hesitant or reticent to recognize: that I’m more California than New Jersey. I’ve not given up my citizenship in the Garden State, but I’ve changed and New Jersey has changed without me. And so Interstate 80, which I’ve driven completely from California to New York, represents the journey – the starting and ending points and everything in between. The second picture is of my daughter, my kids (a son not pictured), and the road I’m on. I hope that it’s a long road, because it’s proved to be the most interesting and challenging journey yet.

Just went to check the dates on my calendars and noticed that my Love Calendar has hit 1000 views. This is fabulous news and I want to thank all my friends on RedBubble who have commented, favourited and visited my Love Calendar. I would also like to introduce my Goddess Calendar for 2010. I just uploaded this calendar last night. I drew my 12 goddesses over a 15 day period in July from the 11 July to 25 July 2009. The first 7 I drew in 7 days. I have uploaded the drawings in the order to which they were created. I have had an astrologer look at them and she has told me which image goes with each astrology sign and suggested I may want to upload them in that order as well. Something to ponder. Also I would like to share that I have been on RedBubble for two years this month this September…Yeh…and what a beautiful two years they have been. I am thinking of uploading a special Calendar with my top 12 viewed paintings and drawings as way of celebrating these two wonderful years. To say RedBubble has changed my life is an understatement. Meeting so many talented and beautiful people here on RedBubble has enriched my life. I feel that I have grown as both an artist and as a person having come in contact with you all. This is a web based community that is thriving because of the support, inspiration and sharing of like minded people. So a big thank you to all my beautiful friends for your comments, favourites, critiques, for viewing my work and sharing all your beautiful work with me aswell. I want to say these two years have been a wonderful experience and I look forward to the next two years. Lots of love to you all, Anthea
