Poulnabrone dolmen is a 5,000 year old portal tomb in the limestone Burren area of County Clare, Ireland. The dolmen consists of a massive flat capstone supported on several upright pillars, and would originally have been covered by a mound of earth. Archeological excavations found several traces of human remains at the burial site, which now stands as a stark reminder of an ancient civilisation. Looking back through the mists of time, who knows what ancient religious rites took place at this barren and windswept scene? Winner of the Heritage in Stone group challenge Stone Circles and Standing Stones.

rmc4803. / This church was built in 1940 on the corner of Bathurst and Belmore Streets, Brewarrina. It is unfamiliar in style, Spanish Mission which was selected at to be the most suitable for the climate. This church was closed in the 1990’s for repairs and reopened in 2001.

Their Children are cared for by the elder woman, who cannot work. This was taken as soon as the carers saw the mums coming up the village path. they are sure hungry babies. Often Breast milk dries up within a few weeks of giving Birth. There is very little food here, and the scarce food they do grow is extremely poor in Nutrition and Vitamins / .I am inspired by the word of God that teaches us to not just pray for the poor, but to give of our substance to help them. I will never forget taking this photograph, as I was standing waiting for the ferry to come. Anyone who has been to rural Africa will know that things runs on African time. That’s why I call them Last minute.com. After three hours, these two guys came to me and said the ferry Had broke down on the other side, and that they would take me accross. So I got in, with all my camera equipment and a very wet Interpreter, who fell into the water. / One the way accross I suddenly realised that the large boat coming straight towards us was the Ferry. It was so funny. The fishermen refused to take any payment, as they said it would bring good fortune to the, as they had a white man in their boat. they both recieved Jesus as Lord and Saviour. Acrylic on textured canvas This was a commissioned painting I have recently finished. My brief was to paint a caped/hooded woman and to have the Chapel of St Catherine in the background. / / This unique building sits on a hilltop outside the village of Abbotsbury, Dorset, England. The current building is 14th-century, its history and the reason why it was built is unknown. The church is not a regular place of worship with only a handful of services each year. However people have been coming to the chapel more often in recent years. In a niche inside – candles, feathers, coins, an icon of the saint, and prayers written on scraps of paper, to God, to Jesus, to St Catherine, to nobody in particular, expressions of human need and feeling are left. They get cleared away now and then, but more come. According to legend, Catherine was a noble Roman woman from the Egyptian city of Alexandria of unusual beauty and intelligence who converted to Christianity. She protested against the worship of idols to the Emperor Maxentius, who called in 50 pagan philosophers to convince her of the error of her ways, but she ended up converting them instead. Maxentius offered to marry her but on her refusal had her beaten and imprisoned. Her torturers tried to break her on a spiked wheel, but it blew apart. Finally she was beheaded – though milk flowed from her severed neck instead of blood. Her body was carried by angels to Mount Sinai, where the monastery which bears her name still exists. During the Middle Ages she became an enormously popular saint and is often depicted in icons, paintings, statues and manuscripts. In art she often carries a book, a sword, or a martyr’s palm, as well as the wheel which is her symbol, and she’s the patron saint of those who work with wheels, scholars, unmarried women, and many other professions and conditions of people. In 1969, however, the Vatican decided to suppress her cult on the grounds of the historical unreliability of her legend.

Here you see Leah praying to God before she starts her daily task of caring for her younger brother and sister, John and Sarah. / Her father died shortly after our last visit in December 2007. Mother is sick. James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. In the midst of so much suffering, Jesus is always there to comfort, heal and strengthen. Like me, Leah draws strength and peace from her heavenly Father as She talks to him in Jesus name. There is no greater Love, or deeper heart of compassion than Gods heart toward all people, regardless of their Race, Color or background. To me He is my reason for living and my inspiration to help those in need. This is why I and the small team of unpaid volunteers work around the clock to help children like Leah and her family. Taken in Tunga/Zuga, a remote village in Nigeria. Mary is aged 12 years old and her mission is to care for her younger brother. Each day Mum and Dad work in the small field from sunrise to sunset. there is no school here and the nearest one is 4 miles away. Children are so precious and I cannot help but think of the great benefits our children have here in England and other developed countries. [portrait taken in Natural Light] : 16/11/2008 [AS IS] I was walking from one village to the next, in Remote Nigeria. one of the team noticed this young girl following us for some time. I stopped and spoke to her through an interpretor. We learned that she was 13 years old and caring for three younger Sisters. As she told us here story, I Felt compelled to return to her village. There we met her three younger sisters in the most extreme poverty. Both Parents were dead and no other living relatives. We spoke to the village Chief and the elders who pleaded with us to help the family. We did, as God lead us to and blessed her with clothing, and the following day we sent two of our field workers to meet with her and now they have a small regular income from our mission funds. UPDATE 5-8-2009. Mary is now at School. We pay her school fees adn her three younger sisters are well and happy. We need help with Susan, aged 9. She wants to go to school also. We need help with school fees, uniform adn text books. Can you help? will you Help? Taken during a visit to Kaban Village in remote Nigeria. Peace looks after lenti her younger sister,a s mum and dad work in the fields. Every day peace feeds and cares for Lenti. Lenti is extremely malnourished and is showing early signs of Rickets,a Disease that causes the upper and lower limbs to bow and lead to disability and pain. here in kaban village the locals try their best to grow enough food to eat and sell. Its a difficult task, when there is little tools and fertilizers. 100% of all proceeds from sales or donations via our Charity website goes towards helping these people. Derry City, Northern Ireland There is a green hill far away I may have uploaded a similar scene before, but bear with me. I’m really enjoying this hdr stuff. The was taken from the Walls of Derry. A late afternoon shot. / St Eugene’s is one of our two cathedral’s. This is the Catholic cathedral, built in the late 19th century. The Church of Ireland (Anglican) cathedral St Columb’s is 17th century. Every year there is a Two Cathedrals Festival with lot’s of fine music and a candlelit procession between the two. In the distance are the Donegal hills. / The hymn was written by Mrs Cecil Frances Alexander, while her husband was an Anglican Bishop of Londonderry in the 19th century. Nikon D50 50mm f1.8 lens /

The holy city of Safed, perched on a mountain top in the upper Galilee, conjures many images to all lovers of the city. The romantic flavor of narrow cobblestone lanes and ancient synagogues fills one’s lungs with a new spirit. The rusty old houses with there domed roofs clearly identifies the city with the mysterious past of the Holy Land. The history of Safed, in real terms, dates back only five hundred years to the beginning of the 16th century. As if out of nowhere, Jews from near and far settled there – as if answering a divine call – and built the largest Jewish settlement in Palestine. Furthermore, great scholars and mystics opened yeshivos in Safed, being an added incentive to other young men of wisdom to settle there. In one sense, the last half of the 16th century was the pinnacle of Torah grandeur which the city experienced. The author of the Shulchan Aruch (Jewish Code of Laws), Rabbi Joseph Karo, sat at the head of the rabbinical court while compiling his compendium of Jewish Law. At the same time, another saintly man by the name of Rabbi Isaac Luria revealed the mystical side of the Torah, called Kabalah. Together these men and their disciples opened new pathways to the Torah which embedded an invisible holiness in the very rocks of the city. Today everyone who strolls through the city is caught off guard by the hidden spirit of Safed which vibrates full of life after so many generations. Not only newcomers are surprised, but even weathered old comers as well. Homage to Safed. CANON Digital IXUS 980 IS / Yorkshire, UK / Fountains Abbey was founded in 1132 following a dispute and riot at St Mary’s Abbey in York. Following the riot, thirteen monks were exiled and after unsuccessfully attempting to return to the early 6th century Rule of St Benedict, were taken into the protection of Thurstan, Archbishop of York. He provided them with a site in the valley of the River Skell. The enclosed valley had all the required materials for the creation of a monastery, providing shelter from the weather, stone and timber for building, and a running supply of water. The monks applied to join the Cistercian order in 1132. / The abbey operated for over 400 years, until 1539, when Henry VIII ordered the Dissolution of the Monasteries.

This is the statue of the Roman Emperor Constantine outside the west door of the the Church of St Peter, better known as York Minster. The sunrise was just catching his arm and the tower under repair on the Minster and the composition mirrors the fact that in God creating man, so Constantine created Christianity as the state/politically sanctioned religion, thus starting years of debate, slaughter and torture along side learning and art.

I received a really exciting email yesterday fromt he Director of This Place asking me to Show Case some of my Religious/Political pieces of Art at their Nude Art Nite Show, I was soooooooooooooooo chuffed to be invited, only, it’s in America, which poses two major problems, one being, that I live in little ole NZ thousands of miles away and am ULTRA phobic of flying! And two being that I can’t even afford a bus ticket into Auckland City! hahaha Ah well… It was still kinda humbling to be asked, but really, I’m not into all of the commercial side of stuff and I’d find it really daunting anyway!
